Glad we haven't heard the chant "Where's your banner" in a while... It is that very chant that makes me smile when Calvin bows out in the first round...
That's the spirit!  Way to go Dutch_Man.  A Christian smile, I presume.

Ok, been a long-time reader of this board.  It always amazes me that WIZ always has a smarta** comment about Hope, whenever anything positive happens to Hope.  This week he has posted 3-4 fine jabs, including taking potshots at Matt Neil (a personal friend of mine) and now along with Dutch_Man have waded into the Church and Christianity portion of the rivalry.
I never thought I would take this experience public, but here is goes:
My two sons and I attended Van Noord Arena on the Campus of Calvin College (Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome Mr.......another story) for the first time on 2/18/15 to attend the MIAA Tournament Championship game between Hope College and Calvin College.  Yes, the very night that Jordan Brink put on one of the best all-time individual performances.
We arrived early for the game, not knowing the seating arrangements or the layout of the arena.
I quickly found an usher/stadium worker and inquired were the Hope College section or seating area was.  I was informed by him, "This is the MIAA Championship game, there are no assigned seats, feel free to sit where you would like and enjoy the game."
My boys and I proceeded to the upper seating portion, on the sideline opposite the benches.  We sat approx. 8 rows up to avoid the glass ring and sat at near-mid court.  Very nice seats.  Yes, we were wearing orange and blue and Hope attire.
As it approached game-time, it was becoming apparent from the color of people's clothing (maroon and gold) and the under the breath comments directed our way, we had "invaded" the turf of the wiser Calvin fans (by that I mean old and gray-haired and soon to find out mean-spirited).
I asked the boys, would you like to move to a different section and both said no we like the view from here.  Big parenting mistake on my part.
I told the boys, root for Hope, clap for Hope, but realize we are actually in the "Calvin" section tonight so be respectful.

If you were at the game, you will remember for the first 30-35 minutes of actual game time, Hope performed very well and had built what appeared to be an insurmountable lead.
During this (one hour and half of actual clock time), I have never been treated so disrespectfully and unwelcome.  Insults were hurled our way like....go to your own side losers, get out of our section, you don't belong here, go back to Holland where you belong (I won't include some of the 4 letter words, yes, Christian Reformed people said 4 letter words to us).
Finally, feeling like Hope was going to win (I was wrong on that one and congrats Jordan Brink), I felt it best to move out of the area with about 5:00 minutes to go in the game, so not to be there and have to deal with the "group" if Hope actually did win.
I said to my boys, at the next timeout, I am going to stand up and say something to the people around us and then we are going to walk out.
At the next timeout, I stood up and said loud enough for 7-10 rows of people, wearing Maroon and Gold, to hear me and said, "I hope tomorrow morning when you walk into your places of worship, that you treat your guests with the same vigor, language and welcomeness that you treated me and my boys with tonight.  Your pastor's would be proud!"  We got up and walked out.

WIZ, I don't know if you were within those 7-10 rows, I don't really care.  However, your carry the banner still today for those people from 2.18.2015, you should be proud of yourself. :'(

Really starting to wonder...

That's a great gif, ziggy. Wish I'd discovered that one years ago.

I would've been tempted to use it on Spence over in the Top 25 room, too.

Is the game at DeVos sold out tonight?  I'd like to go. What's the best way to get tickets?

Find a Hope fan.  I'm sure there are plenty of tickets for sale.

This is the kind of stuff-that should tick you off.  Coming from your leadership

Show up and go to the ticket window. Parking will be plentiful. There will be less than a 1000 people there tonight.  Last night was not sold out.

Last night as I approached the ticket window, a Hope fan stopped me asked if I needed tickets. I said, "2". She handed me 2, I got my wallet out to pay, she said I could have them.  I thanked her and then she said " I hope you're cheering for Hope". I said "We're Calvin fans"!  Her look of disgust was priceless.

Now THAT was a moment I would have loved to have watched. You know she will never give away tickets ever again... without first asking if someone is a Calvin fan.

This too-but only SAC and I agree.

Hmm... your point being?

For the record, I have never, in my life, not once, heard someone say "M-I-double-A."

Of course, I don't say N-C-double-A either; I doubt I'll be adopting other monikers.

Heck, I'm still partial to "Wee-AC," but I'm definitely on an island there.

When the NCAA was cut-throat on being called N-C-A-A... I had to drill it into my head correctly since I called so many games in the tournament for "them." You will see be switch back and forth regularly and with ease now. LOL I think I probably call them the N-C-A-A more now than not, but say both now that they aren't as worried about it.

Sorry to "tick" you off.

5 days ago....funny

Yep, just discovered the site...you don't have clue.

But back to your prep for the "great" 8

M.I.A.A. baseball is right around the corner

Just checking your stats via your link. Not that hard to do. If you come and go, I can't help that.

And I suspect your "apology" has your tongue squarely in your cheek. Thanks anyway... but go ahead and enjoy baseball season.

But you called Ryan, my leadership... as if I report to him and others. Not sure how you know so much about our "leadership" group and how it operates.

And I take shots constantly... you are not new... but you should be prepared to take responses back when they are questioned. You remind me a lot of Spence who was named earlier. Just feel like throwing bombs to disrespect and rile people up. Enjoy yourself. Too bad you don't have more respect for others, I guess. Just because I say M-I-A-A (amongst MANY others)... really? I miss the way that Ashabi's name would appear as little red dots whenever you typed it into a post. That was supersweet!

You can't win here guys.

I've often complained how this board goes off the rails come March, I don't wish it to be because some Hope fans feel its the way to go now that their season is over.  We've gone of the rails.

I'll be at DeVos again tonight hoping to watch a close competitive game for the trip to Salem.  Feel free to say hi.

sac

Not that it matters but M. I double A I'm sure is a local thing to people familiar with the conference.  Its all I've ever heard it referenced as, but I grew up and have lived around it my whole life.

Its grating to us who live here to have it spelled out in conversation the same way you get a weird look when you ask for a pop or soda in other parts of the country.  Its not that big of a deal

And I've always referred to it as M-I-Double-A but in nearly 20 years covering Division III I have never heard a fan complain about it being pronounced the other way until today. Guess it's good to know I can still learn something new?  ???
