Does anyone have any new insight on the Beckman brothers - Jason & Danny? Where do they plan on playing next year 2017-18?
he is staying at hope

So Jason is staying at Hope - what about his brother Danny who was at IMG prep school?

I do not believe Danny has made a decision.

Honestly we're way ahead on recruiting news.  Hope's deposit day is at the end of April, as most MIAA schools are, decisions will filter in as we get closer.  Typically we've had very few commitments until the last couple years where kids seem to go for the twitter announcements to the world.

no height listed but he looks 6-3 or 6-4 with the hair, probably 6-0 or 6-1

Did Jason sit out a year because of D3 or MIAA rules or to consider his options and focus on his studies?

As a Senior student next year at Hope will he have Junior eligibility? Interesting to see if he plays 1 or 2 years at Hope? With Dante & Jason next year that is an outstanding backcourt.

Also, I thought for D3 you were able to transfer to another D3 and play immediately? The rules differ at the D1, D2 & D3 levels.

Apparently this is all that matters to some... But there are no transfer rules in the MIAA that would've prohibited him from playing at Hope last year. I'm with SAC on waiting until this stuff becomes official instead of freaking out about what could be.

Beckman was covered last Fall, those answers then are the same today.   When something new happens I'm sure it will be posted in a timely fashion.

TUAngola

New commit for Hope per local paper here in Angola:

Jake Honer, 6'2" G/F, Angola HS  (last name rhymes with "toner")

Saw him play a few times.  Good athlete, good defensive player, did not score a ton, but that was more a reflection of how Angola HS played as they were one of the leading defensive teams in the state, and were also more about ball control on offense.  He is a tireless worker, motor doesn't stop.  Per the newspaper article he "wanted to get away from here"...yikes...lol, but wanted to be close enough to home to allow his family to see him play.  I know he attended a few Trine games, his HS Coach, Ed Bentley, used to be an assistant at Trine some years ago and is still close friends with some of the coaches here.  Said he also considered Albion and Trine.

Thanks for the update on the new players and player movement and to Scottiedawg for maintaining the ongoing list of players. Interesting to see who will be attending where.

From twitter, Trine is playing exhibition game against Univ of Toledo on Nov 4.  Return to home for Trine players Ellis Cummings and Myles Copeland.

Some old news, both MBB Coach Brooks Miller and WBB Coach Ryan Gould have agreed to 5 yr extensions on their contracts at Trine.
Do other MIAA schools have similar contracts, or is it that the coach is hired and until you get fired or step down you remain?  How frequently do MIAA coaches actually get fired, vs. deciding to move on to some other option or sailing off into the sunset?

Off the top of my head

Adrian
Buck Riley  "retired", though it may have been a gentle shove towards the door
Mark White  left for HS job to coach his son, I'm growing increasingly suspicious this was also a gentle shove towards the door

Albion
Mike Turner  retired

Alma
Ed Kohtala   left for assistant position at Maine
Terry Smith   left for assistant position at MSU women's program

Calvin
Ed Douma    fired
Keven VandeStreak    fired at least 3 dozen times on d3hoops.com

Hope
Glenn VanWieren  retired
Matt Neil   "mutual parting of ways",  but pulled his own trigger basically

Kalamazoo
Joe Hacklin   left for administrative position at Marian Univ.  (I heard two diff. things here but we'll go with this one)
Rob Passage  left for life change and position at Willamette University
Eric Dougal  left to "pursue other opportunities" but probably fired

Olivet
Gary Morrison   retired
Steve Hettinga   left Olivet, took HC position in IBL at Grand Rapids, I've suspected he was asked to leave
Kurt Soderberg    fired
Gene Gifford   wrongly fired
Chris Coles  fired
Steve Ernst  will be fired or suffer from "migraines" again  (its a joke)

Trine
Harmon   resigned for administrative position at Trine

I thought Neil was fired, just like Douma was fired.

I think in both cases "mutual parting" was used as a professional courtesy so they could land somewhere else in the same profession.  Douma landed at Hillsdale, Neil changed careers entirely.  But yes, they were both essentially fired.

This is how I understood at that time.  "Mutual Parting" just a nice way of letting everyone go their own way which usually means this what the lawyers worked out including an agreement to not talk about it.

D3 men's basketball championship will be moving to Ft. Wayne's War Memorial Coliseum starting in 2019.

I know a lot of people that were really attached to Salem and enjoyed the tradition of having it there every year but I welcome this change. Will be nice for a lot of us here in the Midwest to have a much easier trip to see the Final 4.
