I think we can be supremely confident that Olivet College is not "paying" any athlete to attend its school. The institution's financial condition has been precarious for some time and it got off the Department of Education's watch list only two years ago:

http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2015/04/08/olivet-federal-watch-list/25460483/

At just under $15 million, Olivet has a miserably low endowment (which is actually double what it was in 2010), by far the lowest of any MIAA school. By contrast, Kalamazoo's endowment fund leads conference schools with $222 million and Hope is second at $203 million.

Let's go Dutchmen!

Now that's funny.  :-*

Will Robertson Jr.  PG Muskegon will attend Olivet.

Will was the PG on Muskegon's state championship team in 2014.  He spent two years at Muskegon CC,  looks like he didn't play anywhere last year.   Possibly another good pickup for Olivet.

PS   I've seen his name listed as Robertson at MCC as Roberson elsewhere.   ???

per the SBell and the twitter verse

Trevor Manuel  6-8 F/C   Lansing Sexton--Oak Hill Academy--Lansing Everett--Oregon--Loyola Marymount will attend Olivet.

By my estimation the highest rated recruit to ever attend a D3 school in the rankings era.   https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2015/trevor-manuel-7292

Going to be interesting.

How much is Olivet paying him?
Wow!
.

Wow?  Don't think it's possible?  I wouldn't be surprised if all MIAA schools have creative ways of paying, err, reducing tuition for some. Look at Kalamazoo before you dismiss the question out of hand.

As other posters have opined, the chances Trevor Manuel is being paid to attend and play basketball at Olivet are microscopic and none. I sense if such was the case, the NCAA would catch wind of the situation in an instant, and be all over Olivet quicker than a certain political insider could spew another alternative fact.

However, don't believe for an instant that Olivet, much like numerous other schools, can't be extremely creative when formulating a financial "package" to the point where Manuel or any other highly desired player can't end up paying either very little or nothing.

While comments on this subject have, so far, seemed to have focused on the financial aspect of the situation, it seems what has beeen missing is any mention of how the shopping expedition Manuel has obviously been on makes an absolute mockery of the term student-athlete.
Here is a kid who attended one high school for 2 years, then switched to the renowned basketball factory known as Oak Hill Academy for a year, and then returned to the same city, but to a different high school for a year. It would be interesting to learn why he only went to Oak Hill for a year, and why, when he returned to Lansing, he went to a different high school than the one he attended his first two years. Didn't he move back "home" after leaving Oak Hill? So, what we have is this kid attending 3 different schools during his 4 years of high school. Entirely normal. 😉
Then, after HS, he goes to Oregon, but plays only sparingly. Feeling he is not getting the minutes his talent deserves, he asks for his release part way through the season. He says "I love to play. That's what I really want to do."
So, the next year (last year) finds him at Loyola Marymount. However, the fit there evidently wasn't right either. "I felt like Loyola wasn't the right fit for me. I have to find myself in the right spot."
To Olivet's good fortune it looks like Olivet might be that spot. After Oregon and Loyola Marymount proved not to be the stairway to the NBA, where better than Olivet for him to showcase his talents and meet his stated goal which is "I just want to be able to show everybody that I'm still a really good basketball player, still one of the best in the country." What are the odds that one of the best players in the country would end up at Olivet College? And it only took three high schools and, now, three colleges for him to get there!

So one of the best ATHLETE-students in the country will be at Olivet this year. And, if there is any question, especially after his attending three different high schools and three colleges, that the athlete part of the equation is what's most important to this young man, all you have to consider is his directive that "Wherever I play, that's where I play. It makes no difference where I'm at because it's the same goal." Rather than the D3 concept of education first and playing for the love of the game, I think it's a good bet that basketball occupies a higher rung on the ladder than does an education. Good luck to Mr. Manuel. Remember 🏀 🎓, 🎓 🏀.

Lots of progress being made on the construction of the MTI Center.  This is the webcam view looking west from Hershey Hall.  Can't wait for the start of the 2017-18 DIII sports year.  Been a long summer without Trine athletics.

I don't recall Olivet's schedule being posted previously.  Apologies if so.

I count 12 non-conference games and 2 exhibitions, that's one non-conference game too many  ???

http://olivetcomets.com/sports/mbkb/2017-18/schedule
Olivet has updated its schedule with two notable changes.

They did drop one of their games in Florida (Husson I think) which wasn't really scheduled and they also traded UW-Platteville for a trip to D2 Ferris State in November.

FYI - there is a very good chance "they" (Olivett) didn't drop that from the schedule. There is a good chance the team that had the game in there originally found their mistake and removed it (or discussed it with Olivett). These schedule systems and websites gather information from more than just the school's site which has a lot of benefits... it also has these glitches once in awhile. My point being, Husson could actually make a change and have it affect Olivett's website. There are pros and cons and SIDs discuss them internally and externally all of the time. It doesn't have to be debated here. I just wanted people to realize how it all works if they were not aware.

The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Honestly... computer autocorrected that. I work on adding the extra T all the time... even hesitated to make sure it was there. It had to have autocorrected. SMH

BTW - this is also the type of response you get when working as PA announcer of a minor league baseball game at the same time trying to respond... I clearly was not paying attention to what I was writing. Looking back, but hard to explain, there was some other things in the press box going on that made it into that response (like conversations about how to prononunce some of the names on the lineup card). SMH

I am not sure why the extra T was added is what I was trying to say... not that I purposely added one. At this point... I think I have confused myself with whatever I was doing (since I also wrote the original response in the press box LOL).

3 more incoming players for Olivet

Michael Williams  6-3 F (but probably a wing)  Godwin Heights HS, transfer from Muskegon CC.
member of Godwin's 2015 State Championship team.

Cherrod Hill  6-3 G  North Caddo HS,  Vivian La

Ke'Shun Sanders  6-5 F North Caddo HS, Vivian La.

Saunders didn't have much in the way of season stats,  Hill was an all-district player in Louisiana, whatever that means.  I shrug my shoulders.
