I think Kzoo's in year 3 or 4 of home greys, I don't hate them either (or Hope's) but its just not Kzoo, or Hope.   And for Hope to do it after Kzoo has already established grey as a home court jersey is kind of lame...ish.     :-\

They def. need blue in them

Yeah, that is kind of lame given that K College already adopted it. I must say I think I do kind of like this look though. But let me first show the photos to that inestimable fine arts major, Mrs. Oldknight, and she can tell me whether I like. ::)

It's not copying Kzoo when it's not just gray, but "Graves Hall Gray" ;)

Brand Stewards are everywhere.   https://hope.edu/offices/public-affairs-marketing/brand-identity.html
It's interesting that the new gray uniforms (with orange lettering outlined in white) actually disregard the new Hope branding requirements to which Wiz pointed us:

These color combinations should be used for uniforms:
On white or gray fields of color, the type should be Hope Orange outlined in Hope Blue.

Good photo gallery here from last night's Hope game: http://athletics.hope.edu/sports/mbkb/2017-18/photos/0001/index

I'm not quite sure what to think of the gray. I mean, I don't not like it... Maybe the overall look needs some blue?

As a more general statement, I really don't like the cut of Nike's basketball uniforms that have been prevalent the last couple years. Good news for Hope is the things that really bother me (some look too thin over the shoulder, weird narrow backs) aren't evident in the photos.

(Agree sac, Calvin should go away from the black unis)

Speaking of that photo gallery, it appears that Hope's cheerleaders have departed from the norm as well. While the standard miniskirt does seem to have lopped off an additional inch or two (not my preference, but whatever) - now they have also gone the way of a brighter "highlighter orange", rather than the traditional "basketball leather".

SMH indeed.

Breaking news...

HOLLAND, MI – The Hope College Second Assistant to the Athletic Laundry Attendant, who left Hope College on Wednesday, "is going to be OK," said friend and former Flying Dutchmen coach Glenn Van Wieren.

"He will get through it," said Van Wieren, Hope's all-time winningest coach. "It's tough. It's not easy. There are a lot of people who love him. There are former players and a lot of people who know him that are sorry about what has happened, and are offering great support for him."

The Second Assistant and Hope College parted ways in a brief three-sentence announcement from the college that described the split as "mutually agreed." In his storied tenure at Hope the Second Assistant had an unblemished record of providing a high level of laundry services.

The reason for the split has not been made clear, however, it is widely speculated that the Second Assistant mixed the dark uniforms with the white uniforms and now they are gray, clearly outside of the college's branding standards.  "It was apparently too much for the fan base to handle and something just needed to be done" said Van Wieren.

Platteville 85  Hope 60

If Platteville shoots FT's well its a 30 point loss.  Platteville goes to 7-1, they might be good, they might not be.  Hope's not right now.

Calvin showed their potential today in a heartbreaking loss to a much better and nationally ranked team.  The Knights had the throughout the game and got it up to 12 in the second half, when I glanced at the stats and saw Calvin was hitting 11 of 15 from beyond the arc.  That can't last for ever and finally the lead didn't either.  Had to be tough for Wilks and DeWitte watch this one on street clothes.
This has been a brutal schedule and as I predicted at the beginning of the season, they may still only have two wins before league play starts.  But there is improvement every week and they almost stole one today.  I still believe Calvin will be a force to be reckoned with by MIAA tournament time.

Calvin suffers a disappointing 79-74 loss to a superb, 8th ranked, UW-Oshkosh quintet in a game highly reminiscent of the Knight loss at Aquinas. In both games, Calvin played the first 35 minutes quite well, leading almost the entire way, only to lose it down the stretch as the Knights couldn't execute their offense when they really needed to do so. Hopefully, this won't be a recurring theme this season. The visitors from the Badger state showed their mettle by taking repeated punches from the home team, displayed a nicely balanced inside-out game, featured excellent passing and off-the-ball cuts that freed up perimeter shooters, and made precious few mistakes. After Calvin took a 66-53 lead midway through the second frame, the Titans went on a 15-2 run to tie things up. Calvin scored the next six to take a 74-68 lead with four minutes to go but never scored again. A missed, wide open put-back by Luke Morrison with about 3 minutes left and the Knights nursing a two point lead really hurt, but Oshkosh didn't take the lead under the final 48 seconds with a three pointer to put them up 75-74. Oshkosh led the first 2+ minutes of the game, and the last 48 seconds, and no where else. Like I said, a very disappointing loss to a very good team. Derrick DeVries led Calvin with 19, followed by Walter with 11 and Bos 10. Other game notes:

--Michael Wilks on the bench in street clothes, still suffering from the concussion he took in the Martin Luther game 8 days ago. For the most part it didn't make a difference but the team might have used him down the stretch when Calvin was scratching for points.

--an interesting coaching decision to pull Luke Morrison after his missed put-back and never put him back in the game.

--A very nice second half by DeVries who scored 16 points and grabbed 4 boards after the break, though he may have tired late. Of course, the rest of the team may have as well.

Stevens Point 91  Hope 77

Hope was better today but trailed all game that I saw, pulled within 1 once or twice and 4 with 3 and change to go, Nate Dodge hit 2 straight threes in part of a personal 14 straight point stretch to push the Pointers ahead for good.  Dodge finished with 42 on 10-13 shooting from beyond the arc.

Saturday's games at St Andrews Classic @ Trine:

Adrian 86 WLU 73
Whitewater 64 Trine 53

Adrian could very well be a sleeper in the MIAA this year after sweeping Whitewater and WLU this weekend.  You know what you get with Justin Webster, he is their horse.  The guy is so strong guys just bounce off him in the paint, plus he can stroke it too when needed.  He was the most impressive player in the gym today out of all 4 teams by far.  The 3 new guards around him are very athletic, Harris, Colbert and Heard all can take you off the dribble, and shoot from deep too.  I didn't see their game against Whitewater last night but you gotta be impressed to knock off a DIII top 5 team like that.

Trine just didn't hit enough shots against Whitewater today.  Defense was very good.  Whitewater has length everywhere, they even have a 7 ft guy, but he didn't play much.  Copeland was very good the 1st half, but Whitewater ran double teams against him most of the game.  We had some open looks at 3 in the 2nd half that had they gone would have made things interesting.  Coach is still tinkering with lineups, we went small today, Copeland and 4 perimeter players.  I thought we'd get killed on the boards by their length but we did alright.  Sounds like we made shots last night, but not tonight.  That's basketball.  On a side note, our roster is a little thinner, Pete Smith's younger brother Joe no longer on the roster, ditto for another freshman, Hayden Crowder.

With Dante Hawkins and Teddy Ray reasserting themselves, it looks like Hope's perimeter guards will be a pleasure to watch this year. Now if the whole young team can develop . . .

And a shout-out to 92.7 and the excellent Mike Coleman for traveling to Ohio and Wisconsin to cover Hope's games. I watch the streaming video while listening to Mike, albeit with the audio ahead of the video by 30 or so seconds . . . which triggers an idea: It's probably not possible, but it would be great if Hope's SID could arrange for a Hope link that would combine and synchronize the video feed from the away video stream with the 92.7 audio. Or perhaps the station could delay its broadcast to match the video delay? (That would also sustain the 92.7 audience in the video streaming era.)

Black is an acceptable Calvin uniform color as evidenced by the schools brand guidelines.  Colors are not exclusely limited to maroon and gold.  https://calvin.edu/offices-services/communications-marketing/calvin-brand/visual-guidelines/

"Calvin's color palette is anchored by the legacy of its maroon and gold, while bolstered by the newness and energy of a supporting palette. These colors communicate Calvin's story of discovery and fearless investigation."

Who writes this bull ****?

Don't know, but I'm sure he got paid money to do it. If my father read those words he would say "niet zo gereformeerd if you ask me."

This was crafted, almost certainly, by the college's "brand steward," who was not an English major, but an art/design sort. In the ivory tower at many colleges these days, people are inhaling their own fumes -- and getting giddy. ::) :o

Based on the attendance yesterday for a great game at Calvin, they don't focus on ticket sales.  :o
