I see Adrian got some votes and is in the hm portion of the rankings.

Another important game for Adrian as play at home vs. Olivet. Winning this game would give them a 2 game lead AND they'll have already played Calvin, Trine, and Hope.

Olivet has some strong seniors who can score, but I think the Adrian defense matches up well stylistically. I also think think Justin Webster has a good matchup in this one and I expect a strong game from him.  If Adrian continues the good outside shooting, they'll take this one.

What is happening in Adrian?  According to the league website, they have not started yet (Live Stats).  Is that true?

They started, but the YouTube feed cut out at 6 to 4 Adrian. I've been checking it about every 10 minutes, and nothing.

Adrian's twitter just mentioned the technical difficulties and they'll be posting the video after the game is over on their YouTube.

Well that makes three straight losses at Kalamazoo for the Knight's. It's always hard to win when shooting under 33% and allowing over 50%.

Also of note, after the offense defense subs started for Calvin, Kalamazoo scored or was fouled on the last three possessions.

Not a great way to come off the Trine win Sat

Trine with a big 2nd half to down Albion 104-74.  Trine jumped off to a good start only to have Albion finish the 1st half strong to get it to within 2 pts at halftime.  Trine just went bonkers with their shooting in the 2nd half, good ball movement to free up shooters, almost all the outside shots were uncontested.  Albion even tried a 2-3 zone but that was really bad.  Was impressed with Armstrong inside and Collins outside for Albion.  But too much firepower tonight from the Trine guards, Smith, Johnson and Winters all with huge games and then Copeland was solid inside.  Good game for the Thunder.

Just caught the score we were looking for...Olivet knocks off Adrian tonight.  Makes things a little tighter in the MIAA, both are now 4-1 in conference.

It's not too far fetched that we could potentially be looking at a single 5-2 team and five 4-3 teams at the midway break

These first five games have been fun.

Calvin loses 70-69 on a put back at the buzzer by Paprocki which--depending on your point of view--was either a millisecond before or a millisecond after the final buzzer. For Calvin fans easily spooked, I will point out that Kevin Kooiker made the call.

The Knights led 37-30 at half and actually played a pretty decent floor game the opening 20 minutes. They just struggled to shoot the ball well enough to put themselves in a commanding position going into the second 20 minutes. After Calvin scored the first four points of the second half, Kalamazoo went on a 17-2 run that was largely fueled by Ben Reiter who made four straight shots from the arc, plus an old fashioned 3 point play to score 15 straight for the Hornets. It was a combination of spectacular shooting by Reiter and lousy Calvin defense that put the Knights in a hole, making the balance of the game a dogfight.

Kalamazoo did adjust their defense the second half to clog the lane more and that led them to a much better performance on the boards, a battle they home team actually won the second frame, outrebounding the Knights 18-14. Improved rebounding by the Hornets combined with a miserable shooting performance by the visitors (9-32 the second half, 23-70 for the game) was too much for Calvin to overcome, despite a wild final possession by the Knights, that saw three missed shots from the arc, three offensive rebounds, and finally a three point play by Canonie to put the Knights up one with 11 seconds left. It was Calvin's bad luck to defend Tanner's shot so well that it only hit the backboard to give Paprocki his easy put back for the win. Other game notes:

--20 more points by Derrick DeVries to lead Calvin again, including a huge three ball late in the game, is only making the decision to give the Covenant Christian Charger a four minute second half at Hope look ever more curious. He will never be a great defender but he's too valuable of a scorer, rebounds well, and his range from the arc is a real weapon.

--probably the worst game I've seen Luke Morrison play--on both sides of the ball--going 0-5 from the floor and ineffective defense limiting him to 17 minutes. In game that was generally well-officiated, he did get a raw deal when whistled for an offensive foul in the final minute of a tie game however.

--I never considered Austin Bykerk to be a gritty player in high school, nor at Calvin last year, but he seems to be changing his style. 13 points, 8 boards and 2 blocks in 27 rugged inside minutes, mostly against the 6'9" Paprocki. Recent games have been like that for him.

--Walter struggled tonight, getting only 2 points in 16 foul filled minutes. Calvin has come to rely on his instant offense off the bench and when it's missing as it was tonight, that becomes noticeable.

I didn't like the fact that calvin didn't pick up the pg until he was past mid court.   a 1/2 second more time off the clock would the tip in moot.

Not so. The inbound pass was only to the free throw line and Canonie was on it as the pass was made.

Old knight you are wrong, the video is up kzoo site, canonie acted like he was guarding the pg, but he went with the scorer, amoros didn't put any pressure on the ball until it was past half court.  It is very easy to see on the video.
