I'm sorry, but as a Christian I can not condone hating my rivals or wishing them I'll will. Sure, I hope Calvin loses at times because it helps Hope, but I still cheer them on in the national tournaments. As a proud member of the Spartan nation I bleed green and white when I'm not bleeding orange and blue, and I don't enjoy seeing the Wolverines and Buckeyes getting all these four and five star football recruits because it hurts MSU, but I still cheer for OSU in the college football playoffs (and I'll cheer for U of M if they ever get that good again). I just don't understand how people can claim to devoutly believe in the word of God and then go out and wish I'll will upon somebody simply because they go to "that" school. What ever happened to Christian love? When did rivals become enemies? And when did it become okay to judge others simply for the school they chose to attend?

"Mine is a most peaceable disposition. My wishes are: a humble cottage with a thatched roof, but a good bed, good food, the freshest milk and butter, flowers before my window, and a few fine trees before my door; and if God wants to make my happiness complete, he will grant me the joy of seeing some six or seven of my enemies hanging from those trees. Before death I shall, moved in my heart, forgive them all the wrong they did me in their lifetime. One must, it is true, forgive one's enemies-- but not before they have been hanged."

Finding happiness in the hanging of one's enemies strikes me as much less "Christian" than rooting for your athletic rival to stumble on the court.

I don't understand. Are you actually using lynching and execution to condone hating your rivals in something as trivial as sports? Or are you condemning both? Because of course killing people is infinitely worse, but nobody here was talking about that. I, myself, was simply saying that as a Christian I can not understand hating your rivals in something as ultimately trivial (in the grand scheme of life) as sports to the point of never cheering for them or wishing injury upon someone.

My response was to HopeConvert.  His quote was likely tongue in cheek, but struck me as a bit over the top.

I root for Augustana but will always root for a conference rival in non-conference competition.

Go IWU Titans!
Go North Central Cardinals!

6'2" G Tyler George announced his commitment to Hope this evening. The FHC senior is leading the Rangers to a very nice season. Scoring nearly 20 a game last time I checked. He joins:

6'6" F Jeff Bikus
6'5" G/F Connor Evenhouse

...and anyone else I couldn't find quickly on Twitter.

I'm sure someone else can give you a more complete list, but just thought I'd note that it seems like Hope is getting some good ones so far.

Excuse me while I clean up the coffee that just came out of my nose.  #GoAuggie/Augie
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Really don't care if you root for or against Hope just don't be a jackwagon about it on this message board.

And Waaaa hooo!!! I almost missed hitting the milestone 200 negative k!!!! (I wish there was a way of telling how many of those 200 came from calvin fans...)
HOPEfully all of them.
I'm sure not all, but I would wager a bet that at least half of them came from a relatively small number of calvin fans. There's not a way to see where your karma comes from is there?

Man, kinda crazy but after my rant my k went up quite a bit, must be a few people who agree with me.

Oh boy! This rabbit hole got deep in a hurry.

So would it be wishing ill will on my rival if I said I'm hoping the winning-est men's basketball coach in their history continues coaching for another 10 years? :)

Hahaha, the man led Calvin to a record of 421-195, has nine MIAA regular season titles, 10 playoff appearances, two trips to Salem, and one national championship.

The question was obviously in jest, but I'm guessing that asking whether wishing his career another 10 years would be wishing ill would elicit different responses depending on which calvin fan I were to ask.

Nate Davis athletic 6-2 slashing guard from Rochester Stoney Creek is headed to Hope, chose over Kalamazoo and U. Chicago.

Alma has a recent commitment from another good athlete, 6-4 Mason Gardner from Boyne City.
