I'm not sure any Hope fans will see this for awhile...they're all at the NCAA Tournament.

If that's all of them, there aren't that many...

The Dutchmen survive and advance! What a game! My nails are gone...

Does anyone who was at the game last night have anything to mention about how we/they played? Anything besides what I can see in the box score, really. I was only able to see bits and pieces of the stream on my phone.

The video is available at Augie's website. Riley Lewis with some clutch play, Jason Beckman with a couple of missed FTs that made that last shot Auggie took a real nerve-wracker.

I just came back here to say "Never mind, they still have the stream up!" And you've beaten me to it. Thanks for the quick response.

So last night was a really great basketball game.  Played at a high level, officiated very well, and very intense - of course it’s March basketball so it’s all intense.  Augsburg (aka Auggie) is a really good team and shoot the ball really well, from 3 and from the line. Olmscheid is a truly impressive offensive player, but appeared to be a bit tentative defensively. Credit there to Hope (Granger, Towns, and Ray) for wearing him down. Impressive that while he was gassed he still performed at a high level shooting the ball.

Offensively, Hope did a great job of pounding the ball inside, out scoring Auggie 46-26 in the paint. Auggies defense was certainly prepared to stop Hopes guards, and the Dutchmen adjusted to that and found Granger and Towns inside or Beckman, Hawkins, and Lewis found driving lanes. Lewis going 4-5 from 3 was big - especially his last one. That came during a couple of key possessions starting with 2 min to play.

Hope was down 83-81 and Auggie had the ball. Drive to the basket and Hawkins makes a huge block and Hope gets the rebound. Hawkins then gets fouled and makes both FT to tie it up. Auggie airballs a jump shot, and on Hopes possession, Hawkins finds Granger for a dunk (Hope up 2).   Auggie then comes down and misses on a 3, rebounded by Lewis.  Hope comes down and Hawkins finds Lewis in the corner for a huge 3, and Hope is up 5 with 46 seconds to play.

From there, made FTs and some agonizing misses and a missed desperation 3 at the buzzer and it’s a Hope win.

Also think the end of the 1st half and start if the 2nd were key. Hope was down 11 with 4:11 in the first half but clawed back to only be down 3 at the half. Hope opened the second very strong to take the lead. Credit Auggie who made big 3s every time Hope would get a 6 point lead.

So we are on to the second round, trying to pull off the rare Auggie - Augie sweep.

Side note: gotta be some kind of record for points last night at Augustana- total of 418 points in the 2 games combined. 20 players scored in double figures.

As mentioned previously, the officiating for both games were wayyyyyyyyy better than any MIAA game I've seen this year. Consistent with calls and communicated effectively with both coaches and players. Wish we could get just one competent crew to work games back in Michigan edit: and Indiana

I'm glad to hear there was quality officiating in the games last night. It would be a real shame for there to be MIAA level officiating at the national tournament. Was it a CCIW crew?

The NCAA doesn't keep records for combined-game totals per night for a venue. But if it did, that would indeed be the new record. In terms of records that are official, Augie's 123-111 win over Greenville broke the Carver Center record for combined points in a game, set back in the 1976-77 season when Benedictine beat Knox, 114-97. Augie's 123 points were the second-largest total in school history, trailing only the total that the navy blue and gold put up when they massacred Mount St. Clare over on the other side of the Big Muddy, 142-78, back in 1990-91.

It was a CCIW crew, but there won't be a CCIW crew working tonight's game.

The Greenville vs. Augustana game was worked by a WIAC crew.

Augustana likes the MIAA this year.  Defeated Calvin by 11, defeated Alma by 12, and now dismantled Hope by 12.

Wow, great game by the dutchmean tonight.  As most expected they fell short to Augustana but what a great game they played.  Thank you Seniors!
