Bruins was a beast tonight and clearly a great player, but maybe Jason Beckman was just a little better tonight. Hope definitely showed the kind of team they can be - even while still missing some key guys. Gonna be a fun year

Really nice win for Hope tonight.  ONU's Ryan Bruns is probably the best true Center I've seen in D3 for quite some time, ended with 26 but only 6 boards.  J. Beckman was great, Lewis and Granger were good, all three played heavy minutes.   Beckman and Lewis combined to go 15-29 from the floor and 15-15 from the FT line.  Quite a few unsung scattered minutes from Hope's bench at times.  Promising.

A very well played game all around from both teams.

Beckman was sensational. Riley continues to impress me on both sides of the court. I thought outside of Beckman, the best part of Hope's play last night was Preston's defense. He held his own against one of best centers in the country. I left very encouraged and content writing off that stinky performance last weekend as a perfect storm (good opponent, day after playing a system team, health issues, neutral gym, etc).

On that note, Simpson beat #10 UW-Platteville last night, so that loss is already looking less terrible :/ Hopefully, we can have the same kind of success against them and Stevens Point when the two come to Holland in December.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

MIAA hits the Thanksgiving mark at 15-12,   last year the league was 6-13 at the same point.

Can anyone provide a synopsis of Alma? Thanks.

Cleaning up a tidbit from last Friday.   Hope's Jason Beckman had 33 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists against Greenville.  This is believed to be the first triple-double in Hope's history.

I looked through the MIAA stats a bit and I can't find any other league triple-doubles going back to 2004.  The hole in the research is the last 3 seasons because the MIAA switched to Presto. The old Statcrew program actually kept track of things like 30 point, 20 point, 10 rebound, 10 assist games along with logging double-doubles.  Statcrew made looking for such things easier.

From what I saw in the pair of games with Augustana and Illinois Wesleyan they look again to be pretty solid.  Ryan Stevens is the real deal at point guard.  Kid can play.  Cole Kleiver and Kyle Woodruff coming into the team this year have been huge additions as well.  Steven Harvey is only shooting it at a 20% clip right now from the three point line but once he gets going again this year it should make the guard play on this team a huge strength.  Right now they're starting four guards around Gamble and the lack of size worries me.  Losing Doug Bradfield I think is going to turn out to be a bigger loss than even I imagined when I first heard the news.

In those first two games they've competed very well for long stretches before struggling to close out halves.

I'll be interested to see if this turns into a repeat of that 2014-15 season where they went 2-10 against their annual gauntlet of a non-league schedule before winning 7 of 8 of their final MIAA games and then making the Elite 8 run the following season.

I think that this will certainly be a better team at the end of the year than right now.  A ton of offensive talent, need to get the new guys completely integrated, need to figure it out on the defensive end a bit, but again I'm very hopeful for this group.  I think they've shown so far that they're going to be able to compete with anyone that they come up against.

I noticed Caden Collins playing for Hope tonight. Was he called up from the JV to replace someone?

Hope sort of pulls away, a real mud slog of a 2nd half after a 47-41 first half,  both teams had to shoot in the 30's after the break.
Granger 23, Beckman 19, Lewis 18.

Teddy Ray saw his first minutes this year, finished with 8.  Tougher task tomorrow night with Cornerstone

Olivet lost to Greenville tonight, 136-127. Trevor Manuel had a double double with 31 points and 20 rebounds (a new school record). Tracy Edmonds had a double double with 31 points and 11 assists. Olivet had cut it to 4 late in the second half but couldn't finish it out. Manuel played most of the night with 4 fouls, including roughly 18 min in the second half. He picked up his 4th in the mid to late 1st half. Olivet score 100 points in the paint. I'm not a statistical wiz for basketball but that number sounded really impressive, probably less so against The System though.

If Olivet manages to go 1-1 on this road trip, they will probably receive votes for the Top 25, they play #1 (and defending national champs) Nebraska Wesleyan tomorrow night.

Error on the live stats. Collins did not get pulled up, should have read #20 Jake Honer

Interesting game for Calvin in breaking a pattern of big leads in the first half  in most games, then losing in the second half.  Calvin did have a big lead of 48 to 32 at halftime.  Then they did proceed to lose almost all of it the second half to the point of Cornerstone  being only 3 points behind with 8 minutes to go.  But, unlike other games, Calvin then was able to pull away and score the crucial points when they needed them toward the end of the second half.  They accomplished that by receiving more scoring from a bigger number of players.  Bos, Bykerk, Amoros-Gutierrez, Warners, and even the freshman Harrison all had important points.  Going into this game, I found it discouraging that there seemed to be a pattern developing of leading by a big margin and shooting great in the first half followed by running out of gas in the second half.  Part of that pattern seemed to be depending too much on two or three scorers who eventually ran out of gas.  It appeared to be going that way against Cornerstone until they suddenly seemed to hit a second gear and pull away.  Some important rest for starters at crucial times seemed to make the difference.
