Realist, have you heard something about Olivet losing players at the break? As far as I've heard that's not the case but we might be hearing different things.
Sorry no insider information.  Spent some time looking at stats on each team, minutes played, number of starters etc. along with strength of schedule, and then did a SWAG.  Not hard to see Olivet in the top 4, and the others move down a notch or two.  Hard to rank the teams when the winner of conference play may finish something like 10-4 hence gut feeling losing at home is the kiss of death.

Off topic, but I assume there are some hockey fans here.  Cole Parks of Bay City just set a MHSAA record with a SEVENTEEN second hat trick! :o  (As a 3-year-old, he received an autographed helmet from Steve Yzerman - much like Frosty the Snowman, there must be magic in that 'hat'!)  The NHL record for a hat trick is 21 seconds - anyone know of a hat trick anywhere at any level faster than 17 seconds?

(When I was still coaching youth soccer, we had a kid get a hat trick in under two minutes in indoor.  [Since the clock never stops, a hat trick in less than that would be essentially impossible, but in actual playing time his hat trick was not significantly more than 17 seconds.]  Parents of the other team were extremely irate, thinking I'd brought a 'ringer' since he hadn't played when we'd played them before.  I explained that he had been legitimately on the roster all season, but opted for his travel basketball team when there was a conflict.  The kid was the most gifted 12-year-old soccer player I have ever seen!)

The only roster change I've noticed was the one at Albion I mentioned they were hoping for.  Quinton Armstrong has been added, that is a nice boost for the Britons.

As a Freshman Quinton was pretty solid down stretch last year when Albion's roster began transitioning from veteran to youth.

Ugly day for everyone not wearing purple

Albion 94  Grove City 53
Thomas More 89 Adrian 57
Mt. Union 105  Trine 66
St. Norbert 61  Alma 47

With 7 games remaining the league is 34-47 in non-conference play.

Olivet starts Tracy Edmond, John McAdoo, Trevor Manuel, Chase Brocker, and Keyon Rainey. DiAngelo Carleton who has not played in a few weeks was the first guy off the bench about 2 min into the game. Olivet looks to have a better start with this lineup than they did with the last few.

Bluffton 73  Albion 63
Mt. Union 76 Adrian 52
Thomas More 89  Trine 73
Findlay  113  Olivet 65

MIAA is 36-51 for the non-conference portion with one more game from Olivet at Saginaw Valley State on Sunday.   Not a single win of note really.  Hope's win vs Platteville probably ranks the best?

Baring a stunning result from University Center tomorrow afternoon the league will finish 36-52 out of conference.

Not that far off last year, but feels like it should be better given returning players.  Tough opponents here and there but an awful lot of disappointing results to me.

Thanks for an interesting update and comparison with other years.  The picture for how the league shapes up is even more murky after the last two days.  Trine has to be disappointed in getting blown out by 2 teams who do not have great records, and Hope had to fight to beat an Anderson team that looked really bad earlier in the year.  Olivet is difficult to judge in that they are playing such  strong teams from a higher division this weekend.  No one team appears ready to dominate.  Albion looks better than expected.

Sac you're going to need to update this. Olivet wins an exciting game against SVSU 69 to 63. Olivet was up by as many as 13 in the second half before back to back to back 3s by SVSU made the game close. Olivet dominated the first with SVSU only leading with a 2-1 score in the half. It was good to see Olivet grind out a gritty win.

Olivet started another new lineup going with the starting 3 (Edmond, Manuel and McAdoo) who were joined by Dee Roberts and Colin Jones. I honestly don't know who Colin Jones is. He's is listed as a senior from Holt and when I've seen him on campus I've figured he was in his mid 20s. He's a big guy but has hustle and tries to have guard play. He looked stout defensively. DiAngelo Carleton saw the 6th man minutes (22), with 4 others combining for 0-1 from the floor in 8 total minutes. Manuel, Edmond, Roberts and Jones all had double digit points in the game. Jones led the team in 2nd half points with 10, going 6-8 from the charity stripe. Manuel logged another double double with his 10 defensive boards.

My takeaways: Olivet didn't shoot 3s very well, again. Luckily SVSU didn't either, they only hit 30%. The 3 can hurt Olivet because they struggle to answer. DiAngelo Carleton has a heck of a motor on him, he's all over the floor. Manuel finally had a good FT game, going 6/6 and raising his percentage to 67.3. Tracy is a fifty percent FT shooter on the season but 56.4 from the floor. If I was an opposing coach I'd foul him when you can, as he's not beating you from the free throw line. I honestly have no idea how these guys will play in the MIAA. They looked really good tonight, probably their best looking game of the year.

Also as the OC twitter account just reminded me, Trevor Manuel set a single game school record with 7 blocked shots.

I mentioned the possibility of  Colin Jones joining Olivet over the summer, this might be the article or a similar one.  https://www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/sports/columnists/graham-couch/2018/07/17/colin-jones-moneyball-pro-am-couch-column/785102002/

Olivet is going to have some fun the next two months with Jones in the lineup, this probably ought to make them the favorites to win the league now.

Feels like Trine, Olivet and probably the winner of next weeks Hope/Calvin game will have the best shot to win the league.  Albion is going to play a factor here as well but don't feel as confident in them over the long haul.   Like most people I don't know where to slot Alma.  Adrian and Kzoo seem capable of beating some teams but will both probably accumulate too many losses along the way.

Fixed.  My fault for failing to do minimal research.  I probably still would have thought SVSU were favorites to beat Olivet but I would have given the Comets a shot.  SVSU is having a tough year.

Interesting opening nights this week:

I'd like to be at both of these games.
Hope at Trine, both won on each others floor in close games last year.
Olivet at Albion,  Olivet lost at Kresge 100-81 last year.  Britons probably won't win the league but when they get it going they've really crushed some folks.

Sac, thanks for the Colin Jones article. I've seen him on campus but didn't know anything about him.

As is briefly mentioned in the article he has some academic work to take care of.  He'd be a load in D3.  We'll see.

Sac.  Here is your old post re: Jones at Olivet.  I sort of filed this info away waiting to see final roster.
Always good to see a guy like this get his academics straight.

Olivet lists Jones at 6-5 265, he's supposed to have been on a nutrition program the first semester.  SVSU has an on demand link to the game  https://portal.stretchinternet.com/saginawvalley/portal.htm?eventId=494365&streamType=video

Colin Jones figures prominently in the final few minutes.

Olivet twitter also put this out there, all 5 starters for the Comets hail from the Lansing area.
Edmond--East Lansing
Roberts--Lansing Waverly
McAdoo--East Lansing
Manuel--Lansing Everett
Jones--Holt

All those schools belong to the CAAC-Blue which is regularly one of the top leagues in the state.  Its always mystified me MIAA schools haven't been able to pull more kids from that league.  Little different league now with Lansing Sexton and Lansing Eastern in lower divisions and Jackson off in their league of Ann Arbor schools, but its still a good one.

I might be wrong but I don't think Olivet has a starter under the age of 21.
