I've got a reliable source telling me that Steve Ernst has informed Olivet College he will step down after this season as men's basketball coach.

It's a shame to hear that, though I'm not entirely surprised. I'd hope OC will name Coach Williams as head coach of this turns out to be accurate. I think he does a good job for Olivet.

While this may be true, it could also be false.

I can confirm it is either true or false

So any thoughts as to why Ernst would want to leave Olivet?  He has done a good job there in his short tenure.  Being that he is from that area, I can't imagine that he would want to move (again) and/or return to coaching high school basketball, but...he has made several moves like that before (Lansing, Cheboygan, Charlotte, etc.)  Just curious, but again, if this is even true.  Sac, you need to put up that famed picture of yours showing the burning windmill to symbolize the ever present burning rumor mill on all of these boards! ;D

On a more serious note, yes, sad to hear about Kazoo coach Jay Smith's health battle-for sure, will keep him in thought and prayer for that.

My guess is stress. College requires lots of recruiting, not quite as much in high school. Coach also personally set very high goals for this team and himself. I'm really hoping this turns out to be a rumor as I think Coach Ernst is the second best coach in D3 (no arguing that Jim Calhoun is by far the best).

Wow, man, that is heavy!  I know Ernst won't be offended with the "s" word.  But, it's possible that could be false.

Coach Ernst is not on the bench this afternoon down in Adrian. No word as to why.

And I see Colin Jones is playing - but that score is a shocker with Adrian up 66-40 mid second half

Live stats froze with 25 seconds remain but Adrian up 83- 60. Not sure I've been more surprised at a result in quite a few years. Several weeks ago I was sure the Comets would be hosting the entire tournament and now they could be in the fence to host a first round game.

Well, that just might be an indication of some of the underlying turmoil that has apparently been going on with the Olivet team and their coach as some of you have been discussing here on the board these past couple of weeks.  That is unfortunate if such is the case.

Alma shot 55% from 3 and made a three-quarter court shot at the buzzer. Hope won 94-92. Heck of a game to watch. Teddy Ray came up with some huge defense in the final minute to help seal the deal- hardly the first time he's done that. Jason Beckman is back- 38 points to lead all scorers.

Woodruff, Kleiver, and Stevens hardly missed. Woodruff went 7-10 from 3 to finish with 25.

Hope shot 28-33 from the line and made them all in the final few minutes... had they not, Alma wins on a stunning buzzer beater.

With Olivet and Calvin losing, Hope is now in a 3-way tie for 3rd with Olivet coming to town Wednesday. Buckle up, MIAA fans.
