Hope 107  Olivet 78

If you were at Cutler 3 1/2 weeks ago you could not fathom this result even being a possibility.  Funny game this basketball.   27 point loss for Hope that night, turn it around tonight for a 29 point win.
....and that wasn't even the weirdest thing I saw tonight.  That would be national FT leader Riley Lewis missing 3 straight FT's.

Difference tonight, plus one Jason Beckman for Hope and minus one Colin Jones for Olivet?  Maybe but probably not that severe.   Hope had probably one of its best nights shooting 3's, in fact the best in total 3's in  DeVos Fieldhouse finishing with 18.  The last probably the sweetest of them all from Sr. Dennis Towns who finally gets one in a game.

Great win for Hope, gives them a chance for a much better seed than they'd hoped for a week or two ago, but need to win at Albion.  They just keep plugging away at getting better.

Hope:  Beckman 28, Lewis 23, Ray 20, Granger 12
Olivet:  Edmond 29, Manuel 24, McAdoo 12

Or could we have a play in game like the rules in 2012 according to this Sentinel article from then? I have no idea what the tiebreaker is, as SAC said- they're not anywhere I can find.

Calvin: 2 seed with win and Albion loss, 3 seed if Calvin and Albion win, 4 seed if Hope and Calvin lose, 5 seed with loss and Hope wins (Olivet has tiebreaker in last two scenarios with head to head wins)

I believe this is correct for Calvin. In the end they did not guarantee themselves a home game with last night's win.

Interesting: Calvin will not play at home next Wednesday if Hope wins -- the'll either be the #2 or the #5 depending on their own result.
If Hope loses, Calvin will be the #3 or #4 depending on their own result (and host a first round game either way).

With games scheduled for Wed. I doubt a play-in game exists anymore in the MIAA's super secret tie-breakers.

The men's MIAA semi-finals will likely be played Friday afternoon at 1pm and 3pm since Trine is also hosting the women's semi-finals. (probably 6/8)

Nothing official though

Just a suggestion but they could host at Calvin if MTI is booked. :P

I think the longest distance between MIAA schools is roughly a 3 hour drive... On years where the women and men's champion is the same school, I wouldn't mind seeing the #2 seeds host their semi-final game.

Didn't Hope host both the mens and womens semifinals all on the same day 2 years ago?  I don't recall how the scheduling for the day went however.  What the MIAA should do is have the 2 seeded women and men play their games at 1 and 3...and then the 1 seeded women and men play their games at 5:30 and 7:30.  I hope the gym is filled up...this is a BIG deal for the men...first time as MIAA champions since joining the league.  Congrats to Coach Brooks Miller and his assistants and team.  We haven't won "pretty" for the most part, but it's been a terrific year.

Amen, HOPEful. Given that (unless I'm mistaken) most teams drive home after Friday game, with one team driving back the next day, why not hold semi-final games at #2 seeds . . . for much bigger attendance and revenue, and better game atmosphere for players and fans. Or am I missing something?

That was exactly the format used by the MIAA at Hope in 2016.  It wasn't very popular.

Also noteworthy, Hope lost in the semi-finals that season. So Trine and Alma played in the championship game at Hope.

Allowing the 2 seed to host in the semi-finals would also open the door for re-seeding after, avoiding the possibility of a completely neutral court championship game.

I was wondering if this was the case as well. I figured most teams would elect to stay in town on the eve of the championship game.
I thought I recalled Calvin even doing this in Holland a few years back, though maybe that was a special case (or perhaps an NCAA Tournament situation where costs were covered by the association).

I wouldn't like splitting the semi-finals.  The neutral court 2/3 game is really a crucial part of tournament basketball.

The MIAA needs to adopt the Tue/Thur/Sat and Wed/Fri/Sat format (which we've done before) when 1 school ends up hosting both.  Be flexible its 2019.

I'm good with this too. As long as we figure out a way to avoid afternoon Friday games, I'm content :)

Are the semifinals at one site?  The MIAA website says "higher seeds host" for the tournament summary.  I've been trying to figure out exactly what that means in a six team tourney.  On the surface it says the semifinals would be at two different locations, but I didn't think that was how the MIAA did things.
