Pete Smith actually rates as Trine's best player using gamescore for the MIAA season.

Gamescore
Pete Smith   170.4
M. Copeland  149.1
L.  Johnson    148.6

Smith had a better than 2-1 A/TO ratio and was tied for league lead in steals.  Shot 45% from the floor 41% from 3.

League Top 6 using gamescore
Trevor Manuel, Olivet    249.2
T. Edmond, Olivet          179.9
J. Kalonji, Adrian           175.9
R. Stevens, Alma          175.3
P. Smith, Trine              170.4
C. Ebeling, Albion          165.3

Using this or any other advanced stat I think its at least plausible Smith was deserving of the MVP.  I think you would be right to assume on court conduct had something to do with the two Olivet kids not winning MVP.

I look at it like this, if you could pick five players out of all the players in the MIAA to be the starters on your team, who would they be?

Trevor Manuel fouled out of 5 games in the MIAA season. Olivet lost 3 of them. When he is not on the court Olivet isn't as good of a team. That coupled with the better stats makes him the MVP in my mind. There will be a sign in Cutler tonight that says as much.

I agree this shows that Pete is at least plausible as the MVP.  I just think (my opinion) that in watching Trine play twice in person, and multiple times online, he doesn't pass the eye test as an MVP (granted I'm looking at it through tri-focal glasses).

In my opinion, the distance between Manuel and anyone else in the MIAA is significant.

I do wonder what Hope would have looked like this year if Pete Smith and Robert McGivney had never transferred.

That would be a pretty good team.

Calvin swept Hope in the regular season and now host the Dutchmen in the tournament; so naturally I expect a Hope win tonight. The 3s must fall.

MaroonKnighty

Is there no video for the Calvin Hope game tonight?

MaroonKnighty

Never mind, technical difficulties.  SID working on it.

A bit of poor sportsmanship on the part of the Calvin students tonight, holding up a sign saying "Hope, keeping ugly girls out of Calvin since 1876".

The announcers are giving blood updates on the players. Classic.

Derrick DeVries' left knee is bleeding. Nobody has noticed it yet. It's pretty bad, almost 3" wide.
