We have sent 4 different schools to the NCAA tournament in the last 4 years, with two at-large selections

2016--Alma, Hope
2017--Hope, Calvin
2018--Hope
2019--Albion

In 7 years we've had 4 teams from 3 schools make the Sectional Round
2013--Calvin
2014--Calvin
2016--Alma
2017--Hope

This is actually the good kind of parity.

April is usually the Month the recruiting news starts to pop.  There are a couple Sr. camps in late March early April guys like to attend to try and get noticed one more time.  Once the D2's fill in and NAIA's start running out of fractions of scholarships things start to clear up as deposit dead line dates near.

Off the top of my head
Collin McCrackin   6-0   G   DeWitt   ----Trine
Matt Haveman(?)             G  GR Christian   -----Calvin
Caleb Dykhouse  6-2  G  Zeeland East  ----Hope

I saw McCrackin the other night.  A pretty good defensive player, in two games I haven't seen much offense from him but he's on a team with probably 3 other kids who will be playing college ball soon.

Thanks Sac. I also am aware of 2 kids from Florida that are coming to Hope, but forgot their names. They were on SC top 10 plays this past year

Marcus Haveman, 5'11" G GR Chr. He has very good handles, loves assists (and the flashier, the better), better slasher than shooter, but could put up points.  Plays very emotionally, often to his detriment. See the link for a taste.

I hope Trine has some interior players on their recruiting radar.  4 of the 5 graduating seniors this year were 6'6 or taller.

Next season we'll have back senior Langston Johnson at 2 guard, senior Marcus Winters at point, and senior Maurice Hunter who was a part time starter this year will be the 4.  Soph Aiden Warzecha played well towards the end of the year and could slide into the 3 spot, or possibly soph Bryce Williams, both need to hit the weights this off season.  People forget that Saginaw Valley State transfer guard Jake Daniels was out all last year with injury, so hoping he makes a big splash next season.

Coach Miller...please please get some bigs or we might be the shortest team in D3 next year!

Most D3 sports see 'commits' in April, or just basketball?

That 93 Hope/Calvin game would give some of our younger posters a chance to see what MIAA teams were like in the early 90's.  That tape should have Honderd up against a fr. Bosma along with some other very good players.

I don't have any way of playing a VHS, but I'm old enough to know how to use them.

...I've always wanted for a random old classic full game of a Calvin-Hope game from either the 90s or 2000's to perhaps go up on youtube to stream.   Was it WoodTV8 that initially started broadcasting them in the early 90s ( I may be wrong on this), so perhaps one of the SID's could do this some day?   I know that's kind of wishful thinking  with all this  ;)  .  And I know I think a lot of the full games from the last 5 or so years are available on there and you can see some highlight clips here and there such as the documentary Ryan Terpstra produced a few years back, but looking to see a full game I remember vaguely watching as a kid.

Did you consider e-mailing Calvin SID Jeff Febus and Hope SID Alan Babbitt? It occurs to me that the institutions themselves would be as likely to be interested in these resources (for conversion to an online format) as would anybody else. Or at least they might know of fans who collect such material who don't follow d3boards.com.

93 and 94 were pretty classic rebuilding years for Hope.  Hope went 18-8 but just 7-5 in the MIAA losing to Albion, Alma, Kzoo and Calvin twice, finished tied for 3rd in the league but were the 4th seed in the tournament.

This is Hope's 93 roster and stats https://athletics.hope.edu/sports/mbkb/history/archived_stats/92-93mbbstats.pdf
A number of those guys were part the regular season unbeaten team in 95 and the Fr. were all on the 96 Final Four team.  It was a talented group but so young.

Hope graduated 6 players off the the 92 team and the 93 team ended up with just 4 players who were on the varsity the year before.  DeMasse, Hendrickson, Westrate, Mesecar.   To this day I don't think Hope's had a team with more player turnover.

Funny but one of the moments that stands out that year was Hope playing Sienna Heights the last game of the regular season during Hope's MIAA bye date.  Duane Bosma picked up a foul  he didn't like and kicked the Civic Center bleachers as he left the floor.......broke his toe just days before the MIAA tournament began.  Hope "limped" to a 72-71 win over Alma a few days later in the first round before putting in a game effort against Calvin in the semi-finals.

I think that is also the day Honderd dropped his 60 pointer on Kalamazoo I believe.  Next to '96 that '93 team was probably Kalamazoo's best in that era.  (Lester, Njus, Hobik, VanderWiere, Passage, Cole).  K had 9 guys 6-5 or taller.

Albion was good that year too (18-8, 7-5), but a typical Albion team with no huge standout guys.  (Aerts, Wourman, Essell, Pinter, Klein, Buss, Crum, Deemer, Bancroft, Parker)  (side note, Matt Essell hung up his coaching jacket at Holt High School a year ago and Marcus Wourman's son is the PG at East Lansing as a Soph.)

Here's the all-MIAA team from that season, Honderd's 4th First team selection, everyone else was a first year.

First team
Steve Honderd, Calvin--MVP
Duane Bosma, Hope
Tarik Lester, Kzoo
Colon Lewis, Alma
Spencer Mourning, Olivet
Jon Njus, Kzoo
Marcus Wourman, Albion

2nd team
Todd Bloomquist, Alma
Steve Hendrickson, Hope
Mark Lodewyk, Calvin
Rob Passage, Kalamazoo
Darin Weber, Olivet

The MIAA had four teams win 18 games that year.  Calvin 23-3, Kalamazoo 19-7, Albion 18-8, Hope 18-8
