I'm watching for white smoke from Van Noord Arena.

You must have missed the asterisk Neil Plantinga always includes when writing out the Lord's Prayer. It's the Holy catholic* church... meaning universal, not big C...

My bad, meant the Apostle's Creed.

Cracks me up every time... always puts an asterisk on catholic, just to make sure no one is confused into thinking the CRC is indorsing the pope led Catholic Church via the Apostle's Creed.

We should be similarly careful when using white smoke metaphors, not to offend the Calvinists.

Great post as usual, sac. All you here on the this particular board follow MIAA basketball way more than I do ( you all know I am just a football guy and still a "rah-rah!"😀 Regardless, I believe it is fair to say that despite whatever their season records were, the Hope and Calvin teams of at least the last 3 years (and possibly more) have just not been of the overall calibur they were several years ago and beyond. I do not intend that as a slight against the players, because they are good young people and hard players. Rather this is just a general observation.

One observation:

Looking at Hope's returning players and likely contributors for next year (minus incoming Freshman) Hope has ZERO kids from the immediate Lakeshore area around Holland.  I found that really amazing.   No Holland, Holland Christian, West Ottawa, Hudsonville, Zeeland East or West, Hamilton, Grand Haven. Not a one.   Not even a Grandville or Jenison

You could argue this point probably better against calvin than Hope.

Last year, sure. Hope had a "down" season a little worse than we're accustomed to. But Hope made the NCAA tournament in 2016, 17, and 18. Two of those they won the first round game and were bounced by very good and highly ranked Augustana teams. 2017 they hosted the first weekend and knocked out both UW-Oshkosh and a VERY good Washington team, before hosting and losing in the second weekend to a very good Hanover team on a Wes McKinney buzzer beater. From strictly a post-season performance standpoint, outside of 1996-1998 or 2006-2008, there's never been a better 3 year stretch for Hope than 2016-18. Also worth noting, Alma made the sectional final in 2016, and although they're not Hope or Calvin, they are MIAA and speak to the quality of the conference as a whole.

Hope didn't even make the tournament from 1999 until 2002. They were bounced in the first round in 2009, 2010, and 2012. Yes, last year was not great. And I do think realistically this coming year will be a "rebuilding" year, as well. But I'll take a 4 season stretch like the past 4 any time!

I will take Shymanski, DeWitt, DeVries, Bos, and Meulenberg in the Calvin league.
Also would be surprised if Gamm averages a double double especially with Granger in the lineup.
I'm a little surprised none of those 5 has transferred yet.
Can't tell if that's sarcasm. DeVries and Bos are going to be Seniors. DeWitt will be a junior eligibility wise and a senior academically. Shymansky will be a junior. The only one who academically makes some sense to transfer is Meulenberg. However, these are all "Calvin" guys who come from Calvin feeder schools. I would be shocked if they left. Looking forward to what they can do next year.

I'm trying to decide if we need a TS or a Codeword clearance for this one. I checked everyone one of the Calvin players twitters yesterday and didn't see anything about a transfer.
