Given the quality hire of an experienced college coach for the Calvin women's program, one has to think there will be a big-time hire on the men's side of things as well.
What would a big-time hire be for Calvin? I think VanderWal is the only realistic answer for that, and that is not happening.
I'm going to stick with the "feeder school" theme and put my chips down on David Kool.
I can confirm this is not an option
Yes, my comment was somewhat a joke, but I do wonder if a coach like Kool is actually the better long term choice for calvin. As a Hope fan, I'd be scared of a younger Kool that's "more relate-able" to today's high schoolers and better equipped to steal recruits from Cornerstone, Hope, Trinity, Spring Arbor, etc. Is Bill Sall really any better equipped to maneuver through calvin's current political/financial landscape? Much like Hope fans overplaying one recruiting class, I think a lot of calvin fans will be hinging their hopes on getting "their guy". I don't think they're necessarily any better off with Sall than with Kool. Or in a more positive spin, I don't necessary think they're any worse off if they fail to bring in a "big name" like Sall or Vanderwal. They might actually be better off.
Kool's credentials are too weak for this position.  Calvin can do so much better.

If the Ryan Stevens rumors are accurate, clearly Kool's credentials should have been at least considered.  Nothing against what Stevens has done at Calvin Christian, but on paper, I'd prefer the former Mr. Basketball, MAC Player of the year, WMU assistant, Jenison and Holland Christian head coach over at 20+ seasoned Calvin Christian coach.

Agreed. Seems to me that if any current D1 assistant had applied, that resume would be worthy of consideration. Was Kool's resume somehow worsened by becoming a head high school coach? With all running a program entails, that seems unlikely.

My point exactly. If the process is going to take this long, why not interview him? It is my understanding that he applied and was interested, but heard little to nothing back from calvin. Why not bring him in for an interview. Even if you're pretty sure that he doesn't meet what you're looking for, it's a great opportunity to have the head coach from one of your "feeder schools" on campus. Maybe he surprises you... Or maybe you foster a relationship that doesn't pan out this time around but develops into something at a later time.

What about pre-meditated human sacrifice, seems potential for a grey area there.

MAC player of the decade as well. When I said that Kool was not a finalist for Calvin, does not mean he wasn't interested 😊
Or maybe you foster a relationship that doesn't pan out this time around but develops into something at a later time.

... and it looks to me as though the new Calvin hire is the one who will be the human sacrifice at the top of this quote ziggurat.

Based on recent comments I am getting, I think it's the members of the search committee--not the eventual hire--who are more likely to get marched to the flaming wood pile on top of the ziggurat. If nothing else, this has made for a most interesting off-season.

Last I checked, the CRC was against human sacrifice. But I'll have to consult my elders and deacons to confirm.
What about pre-meditated human sacrifice, seems potential for a grey area there.
Maybe - this reliable news source seems to be leaning that direction:  https://babylonbee.com/news/calvinist-health-insurance-company-declares-conditions-pre-existing

JVW to Calvin perhaps?

One finds almost nothing in Mr. Kools bio which would indicate he has ever shown much interest, let alone loyalty, to Calvin.
Last year's Calvin roster had no HCHS grads listed.  Misses the "feeder" school litmus test  :)

Mr Stevens (member of a national championship team) over those 20 years, you so blithely dismiss, has had quite a few grads who did quite nicely at Calvin.

If Mr. Kool was interested in the Calvin job my guess would be that he wanted it only to use as a stepping stone to further his own career.
