So not only is Hope's league schedule unbalanced, the 5 away games in the 2nd half are at the 5 schools farthest away from Hope. Lots of bus hours getting logged those last couple of weeks

Hope gets the unbalanced league schedule of 5 home games in the first half, 5 away games the 2nd half......and 5 road games on Wed nights.

Been awhile since Hope's played Westminster, 1987 and 16 years since they last played Finlandia.  They've never played Ripon, Carleton, Benedictine or Illinois Tech

For SOS purposes, this isn't one you'd expect will put Hope in a great SOS position for Pool C, which is fine because that's not where Hope is right now.

Ripon  15-10
Benedictine 13-12
Anderson  11-15
Platteville  18-11
Stevens Point  18-9
Finlandia 0-21
Carleton 7-18
Westminster  13-15
Illinois Tech  16-12
*I don't think Carleton will count as a regional game, 557 miles but I forget all the rules these days.

When I plug this into my schedule formula I'm certain it will be Hope's weakest in the last decade plus by quite a bit.

sac:

Similar to football, unfortunately, in the long term, that kind of a schedule is not going to be helpful with regard to advancing in the NCAA tournament, if they even get there. ::)  Anyway, thanks for your usual detailed research of stats!

I think they've altered the schedule templates a little bit.  Hopefully they've fixed the one Kzoo had last season with 5 of the first 6 league games away from home.

Hope basically has Trine's schedule template from last year with the only change being the game 6 and game 13 location, in Hope's case games vs Alma this upcoming year.

Calvin had only one Saturday league home game last year.

NCAA has approved a change to move the men's three point line to the international distance. Change goes into effect next season in Division I and for the 2020-2021 season in Division II and III.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Usually we try and relax in the offseason. We have always had ideas of doing an off-season podcast, but we usually end up being distracted by other things. This off-season we decided to go for it.

We did get some "down time" in between the end of the season through the end of May, but we are ready to get back into chatting about DIII - basketball especially.

And there is plenty to talk about starting with the "MIAC Decision" or #TomToss.

Dave McHugh is joined by Pat Coleman to discuss why (no, really, why?!) some of the MIAC presidents decided to "involuntarily" remove St. Thomas from the conference it helped found 99-years ago. We talk about the history, the flaws in the supposed arguments (though, no president has gone on record), and what options UST has moving forward. Dave also gives his thoughts on the topic.

Also hear from two coaches who made some unexpected job decisions this off-season. Dave chats with Sam Hargraves who left Alma for fellow-MIAA member Olivet despite his alma mater, Calvin, having a job opening. And Gordon Mann chats with Michael Coppolino who shifted coasts to take over the vaunted George Fox program - something that was even unusual for GFU.

Plus, a brief look at some of the other coaching decisions as the calendar turns towards summer.

Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops .com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. The May Edition is an audio-only podcast. You can listen to it here: http://bit.ly/2WPSdKM

Guests Schedule (order subject to change):
- Pat Coleman, Editor-in-Chief D3sports .com
- Sam Hargraves, new Olivet men's coach
- Michael Coppolino, new George Fox women's coach (interviewed by D3hoops .com's Gordon Mann)

If anyone in the Grand Rapids area is interested in some MIAA summer basketball, there is a new league this year (no college/adult leagues at The Courthouse this year).  Link below has schedule and team rosters:

Latest MIAA coaching rumor is Jay Smith will accept the Northern Michigan job.

Unverified but still fun.    Hot rumor would be Ryan Clark to Kzoo now.  :-\

Per the Albion Athletics twitter account, the Britons will tip the 19-20 season with an Oct 29 exhibition @ MSU.  Pretty cool chance for the Winton brothers (Cassius @ MSU and Zach & Khy @ Albion) to play against one another.  Suspect that as kids growing up they played out similar scenarios many times, but to actually get to do this is pretty cool!!

That's a pretty cool opportunity for Albion to play at the Breslin. Glad it worked out for all involved. That's for letting us know FDF.
