But can the Knights maintain this quality? 15-31 from behind the arc... including a spat of misses in clean-up time.

TUAngola

Trine 79 Alma 71

Very good game at the MTI Center today, the most competitive game of the 4 MIAA conference games this weekend.  First half neither team led by more than 5 pts, Trine went into the first half intermission up by 3.  Trine extended the lead out to 15 with around 12 minutes to go, as Alma seemed out of sorts.  Alma calls a timeout and picked up their defensive intensity as Trine struggled to hit shots.  Zach Sinke got hot from 3 and he shot Alma back into the game.  Alma catches Trine and leads with 6 minutes to go.  Trine rights the ship by not settling for 3s and driving to the basket and getting easy buckets inside.

Very balanced attack from Trine today and they really dominated the boards, which is a rare thing for a Trine team.  I knew going in that this would be a good game as Alma can shoot it with Kleiver and also has the ability to drive to the basket with Stephens and Harvey.  Another standout game from Marcus Winters.  His shot from outside has improved considerably this year, and he is a tremendous defensive player for a guy 5'11.  Langston Johnson and Mo Hunter also played well.  Jake Daniels was "cold" today, he seems to never string good games together so far this year.  He was terrific against Kalamazoo but had an "0fer" today.  Bryce Williams and Brent Cox also had good games.

Now that conference season has started Coach Miller has shortened his bench considerably.  He has gone from a 10-11 guy rotation to 8 man rotation this first week of league play.  Mitch Geller, who was starting quite a bit early in the year has not seen the court the last 2 games now that Hunter is back from injury and Cox has been more productive on the court.

Trine:  Johnson 21 and 11, Hunter 16 and 9, Winters 15, 9, and 7 asst, Cox 13 and 6
Alma:  Kleiver 21, Harvey 14, Sinke 14, Stephens 9 and 8 asst

HOPEful

What's the over/under on Granger and/or Bos receiving a technical foul Wednesday night? With the already established bad blood between to the two, and a lackluster season so far for both teams, I've got a feeling it could get chippy in a hurry.
Let's go Dutchmen!

I was wondering (since I hear that the tickets sales to the men's game aren't the greatest) if there is any chance the women's game (same night at De Vos) outdraws the men's game.  I realize that's a pretty big stretch, but certainly not out of the realm of possibilities.

How much does the fact that there's a men's game in Grand Rapids cannibalize the Women's game attendance?

As Dave McHugh mentioned on a recent Hoopsville episode, the MIAA should make sure this scheduling doesn't happen. Either make the men's/women's Rivalry games on separate nights or make them a doubleheader at one location (or, I suppose, something like 1pm/7pm on a Saturday if you must do one in Holland and one in Grand Rapids on the same day).

I would agree on preferring them to not be simultaneous.  You ask about the men's game cannibalizing the women's game, but I honestly think it could be the opposite from some Hope fans (many of them have season tickets to both the men and the women's home games - meaning they are unlikely to buy another ticket and travel to GR, when they already have one to see the #3 team in the country play their rival at home).

I'm a Haslett grad and this is such tough news. Bart and Bret reffed many HS and College games I was a part of.  Every time I'd come back he was ways quick for a conversation. Massive loss for the Haslett community.

Glad you shared this here. Always kind of a running joke on the score tables at any of the schools I've worked at was "is this Bart or Brett today?"

Was always an enjoyable official to have. Would always come over to the table pre-game and joke around with you. The MIAA, GLIAC, and MAC schools here in the state lost a good one.

I'm not sure how often this happened, but last year's Calvin vs. La Roche game in Holland was officiated by the three Wegenkes.

There was a lighthearted chuckle among those in attendance when the officials' names were read during pregame.

I'm assuming that's a mix-up and the game is at 8pm correct?
