Adrian 71  Hope 65  F    ....was the final score on the scoreboard.    After the 2nd made FT you can hear the announcer say 6 point Adrian lead and you'll get a quick shot of the scoreboard reading 71-65.     https://youtu.be/kbMCtC9QNx4?t=6537

MIAA.org is showing 69-65.   Another scoring error would be swweeeeeet.

When you're struggling as a team everything feels against you, no bounces, breaks or 50-50 calls.  True tonight.  Adrian chucked some 3's, some good one's some really poor ones, a lot went in.  #analysis

Basketball is just weird sometimes, here you have Adrian making a bunch of 3's, double digit lead, Hope goes zone and Adrian makes maybe 1 of their next 8 or 9 and Hope gets back in it.   Basketball!!!!!

Shot of the game came late, Hope down 4 lots of momentum, nearly get a shot clock violation but Harris makes a 3 just as the shot clock expires.  7 point lead and pretty much game over.

No boxscore.

+1 for road win/ -1 for home loss

1.  Albion 10-1  +5
2.  Trine 7-4 +1
3.  Calvin 7-4  +2
4.  Alma 6-5   +1
4.  Adrian 6-5  E
6.  Hope 4-7  -2

7.  Olivet 2-9  -3
8.  Kalamazoo 2-9  -4

Congrats to Albion for winning a share of the MIAA Championship tonight.  That's Jodi May's first regular season title.  First for Albion since 2005.  Strong season under heart wrenching circumstances, they've been amazing.

Second place up for grabs, like Calvin's schedule better than Trine's, at the moment that tie-breaker fall to Calvin's two wins over Hope.

Alma and Adrian both clinched a tournament spot.  Technically Hope can still tie either or both and win the tie-breaker.

Hope's position doesn't change a lot other than the probability of Olivet or Kzoo getting more wins than Hope goes down a bit.  Hope ends the fuss with a win over Kzoo at home Saturday.  It gets wobbly with a loss.   Still the same for Olivet/Kzoo they have to out-win Hope which now requires 3 wins in 3 and Hope losing all 3   or Olivet ties Hope and best win is better than Trine(Olivet can equal with win over Trine, next tie break would probably be Alma...Olivet wins that) or Kzoo ties Hope and beats Calvin and Calvin finishes ahead of Trine.

Remaining games:

Adrian:   ALB,  @Oli,  @Cal
Albion:   @Adr,  TRN,  OLI
Alma:     @Cal,  HPE,  KZO
Calvin:   ALM,  @Kzo,  ADR
Hope:     KZO,  @Alm,  @Trn
Kzoo:     @Hpe,  CAL,  @Alm
Olivet:    TRN,  ADR,  @Alb
Trine:     @Oli,  @Alb,  HPE

Finally have a boxscore posted - but it's B.S.  According to what is posted, Evan Thomas had 10 pts & 9 reb in the 2nd half while playing zero minutes.

Coach Mitchell . . . it seems he hasn't put in any effort to replace them. He was lucky to have Jason Beckman transfer to Hope
My impression is quite the opposite, and two of his frosh recruits this year have shown exceptional talent, including tonight. If he can continue to get two players a year of their caliber, Hope will be fine in the long run.

This feels like something to be said for a new coach in year one or two, not one on a downward trajectory in year six.

agree Ziggy. He needs a recruiting class thats similar to the Blackledge, Carlson, Stuive, Brushwyler, OBrien, Littleson class very soon

I would agree recruiting has been disappointing.  I would disagree heavily its from lack of trying.

It is really disappointing that people think that it is a lack of recruiting and lack of replacing. The D3 landscape does not get the recruits it used to and the D3 coaches have to work hard at getting the recruits they go after. It is a reminder that this level is not only about athletics but more importantly about academics. So if you are unhappy with how coach Mitchell has recruited then you don't understand what these coaches are up against. I agree with Sac's statement of recruiting has been disappointing but it's not because of lack of trying.

Agreed. Also private schools aren't cheap. That's hurting a lot too. Look at Carson Mulhenberg, finding other opportunities will happen in today's landscape.

It is tough though right, because coaches sign-up for a job in which their success is measured in part by their ability to recruit students.  And some coaches are at institutions that care about the win-loss record more than others.

It is certainly a tough and changing recruiting environment.

There was an article this week in the Chronicle about the changing nature of admissions.  Albion was mentioned as they had a sweepstakes for those who made an early deposit.

Jason Dietz and Nate Davis were considered top 100 high school players in the state and "good gets" for Hope 2 years ago.  Dietz left Hope for a personal medical issue, Davis didn't feel his playing time warranted staying on the team at Hope, a high academic kid whose college choice was something like attend Michigan or play ball at Hope.  Those two were in the same class with Tyler George, also a top 100 high school player.

Off the top of my head Hope has been recruiting kids whose final college choices included schools like WashU, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Emory, Howard, Holy Cross, Michigan State, Miami of Ohio, Western Michigan.

Then you have bad luck with recent Hope legacy recruits.
Duane Bosma's son ends up a great baseball player, the Hodgson's son(s) ends up a D1 basketball player.  VanKovering would rather work for dad, Muhlenberg decides on playing with friends/cousins and ultimately quiting to work for dad.

.....and then there's Cornerstone.  At one point recently I think Cornerstone's entire starting 5's final college choice was Hope or Cornerstone.

All of this!!! When I think about the long list of players that Hope ALMOST had, it's somewhat depressing. Escepically bigs. Meulenberg choosing Calvin over Hope was a shock to a lot of people, VanKovering leaving less of a shock, but still disappointing.

And a lot of people will rejoice in Holland when Kim Enders finally retires.

Also, ask anyone on the coaching staff how hard they recruited Harrison Blackledge, and they will tell you they didn't. He fell into Hope's lap. I believe the story goes something along the lines that he asked a mentor/coach in high school if he recommended any christian D3 colleges where he could play basketball... the response was,

"You should check out Hope College in Holland, Michigan..."
Let's go Dutchmen!

Shawn was in a boot for the Hope game.  I assume this is injury related.

Here's a couple plays from Adrian/Hope

Here I thought live it was a bad call, but Harris makes a pretty incredible effort to re-establish himself inbounds and throw the ball off George.
https://youtu.be/kbMCtC9QNx4?t=4911

This was the final play of the first half, as it turned out a pretty big shot.  Just watch Harris, at the current time at the top of the screen next to Hope's bench.  This is just pure Jordan Harris.
https://youtu.be/kbMCtC9QNx4?t=3007

This was the killer shot by Harris.  3 min left, Adrian's only scored 9 points in over 10 minutes, Hope's chipped away an 18 point deficit down to 4, all the momentum, they get a long defensive set, ball lose on the floor at the end of the shot clock and then Harris cans this one.  Really game over at that point.
