The color commentator was North Central's regular man in that role. The PBP broadcaster wasn't.

Typically the ncaa suggests strongly on a neutral crew,  which often results in home broadcasters tying to modulate they're style or pairing one with a visiting broadcaster for each game, which means people who've not worked tougher before. I'll give a shutout to the NWU crew. They called their own game for neutral listeners with real excellence.  Such a difficult thing to do.

No doubt it is not an easy thing to do - and I will say that for the most part, the crews I've heard recently have done a good job.  The NCC color guy last night made a couple of rather odd (I hesitate to call them offensive, but they might have been to some) comments.  For example as Jeremy Kalonji shot a free throw "he looked confused like he wasn't sure what to do".  Uh, he's an 81% FT shooter who had been to the line 140 times this season.

Adrian matched its worst 3-point shooting performance of the season at 20%.  Bulldogs were 4-8 when shooting under 35%, 13-4 when above.

Harris was held to his 2nd lowest shooting percentage of the year at 20%, somehow he managed a 0% at Hope.  North Central put 6-4 Blaise Meredith on him all night, Harris seemed reluctant to shoot in the rare chances he did get a little space to shoot, he had an odd night I thought.

Lot of spot on comments here from you guys. FDF, that Kalonji comment was one of the ones that I for sure noticed. A few others that drew my ire was talking about how NC needed to blow them out to rest starters, and also announcing the game to over at the 9:56 point...it was an 11 point game. And I had a slight laugh when he talked about being 11 and 0 on Saturday's. Reminded me of some the play-by-play from Bob Uecher in Major League.

Sac, your statistics and mentioning of NC's smart move to guard Harris with 6'4" Meredith is also spot on. And even when Harris got open in the 2nd half, he seemed gun shy.

And Adrian overall, was disappointing, largely due to just not looking like they were into it the entire game. Maybe frustration set in with the struggles, and it's hard to say partially due seeing the game on a feed that wasn't the best (a little far from the court maybe?). Also made it hard to recognize NC's skill, because they honestly didn't impress me too much. I mean, they were very solid and definitely didn't make many mistakes, but hard to tell how good they were without being there.

But I won't let my disappointment get in the way of my pride for this team that made history for the program. Thanks to them and hopefully they take confidence into next season. Go Bulldawgs!

For all you stats guys, I'm curious, over the last 30 years or so, how many MIAA teams that have made it to the NCAA tournament have made it past the first round?

29  with about 5 or 6 first round byes included and several years of 2 teams reaching the 2nd round since 1990, prior to that they were still doing regional 3rd and 4th place games.

Something further, all but Hope in 1995 were upset winners of the MIAA tournament and auto-bid.  Only Hope in 2003 was a Co-champ but had to beat Albion at Albion to win the AQ.

Maybe one of the more underappreciated things about Kevin Vande Streek's career at Calvin is that his teams went 8-2 in their NCAA Tournament openers.

And 1-0 in NCAA Tournament closers.
