Wow, I haven't been on here in a while.  Looks like Bill Sall is pretty good at recruiting.  I love Shymanski, do you think he'll keep his starting role all season?

Calvin lacked a true point guard last year, so it was point guard by committee in 2019-20. That's why Coach Sall employed multiple players taking the ball up the floor. Often it was Derrick DeVries, and we even saw Alex Bos, from time to time, taking the ball up the floor.

Luke Scheffers is a true point guard--and I expect will be a superb one at the D3 level. Luke is well balanced between passing and scoring ability, and Bill Sall certainly wanted him badly. I have no doubt Coach will hand the keys of the kingdom to Luke right away. Calvin can use Luke at the point. Thad will love to see Luke running the point. And so will I.

Don't worry about Thad. He's a natural 2 guard, and guess what? There's an opening at the 2 guard position for the 2020-21 season. Thad will thrive there.

Thad is a legitimate all-conference player, but handling the ball against athletic pressure is not the strong point of his game. Oldknight is right that he'd do just fine off the ball.

Let's pump the brakes on expectations for next year. It looks like some new talent is coming to Knollcrest, but I don't think Sall has even 5 returning players that he's particularly enthused about. We're certainly not at the point where a 1,000-point scorer (surely Thad will get there) is relegated to bench duty. I expect lots of young fresh faces in the rotation for Calvin, and that's going to come with some growing pains.

I'd honestly just like to see a basketball season next year.  :-\

Amen - even if we have to watch it all online

As an Albion fan, agreed.  I love watching in person, but I am willing to not set foot in my beloved Kresge next year, if it means we get a season.

Also, here's another from digging through twitter:

I totally agree with the comments about Thad being more effective as a shooting guard, which I have always thought to be the more natural position for his talents.  His ability to shoot from the outside and drive effectively when the opportunity presents itself should be a better fit with a true  point guard in place.  He was already and outstanding shooter in high shool, but I was surprised to fine how well he can drive and score, too.

With 3 starters having graduated, it would not surprise me to see 4 new starters if the new players catch on quickly with Warners possibly coming off the bench.  Warners will be in the mix either way, but he may be most effective off the bench.  Some of the returning bench players from last year may start early in the year, but the potential for new players to take over the starting roles over time looks outstanding.

Seems to me that Warners is an easy lock to start every game.  My best guess would be Scheffers, Shymanski, Minderhoud, Paul, and Warners.  Could see Bult taking Minderhoud's place as well

There are few sure bets in life, but I expect that as long as he's healthy and enrolled at Calvin, Emmett Warners is starting every game of the 2020-21 season. Last year he started all 26 games, and averaged 31 minutes of PT. I don't see those minutes changing next season, other than possibly increasing. Given the loss of a significant portion of Calvin's offense, Emmett is quite likely to bump up his scoring from 7.3 ppg. He's a really smart kid, an excellent free throw shooter (82%), and most importantly, Warners is a terrific and versatile defender, capable of guarding a variety of positions. Bill Sall isn't going to give up all those defensive minutes by moving the son of his chief assistant, and the school's volleyball coach, to a backup role.

Based on your previous posts I think it's safe to assume you aren't implying Mom and Dad's roles have anything to do with the young man's playing time?

Yet, 17 recruited players

I guess that's my point, they aren't necessarily all recruited - they have all simply indicated they are going to Hope and intend to play basketball.
Kinda late to this discussion, but let's just this years large number of recruits committed to Hope, has hurt them in a few recruitments
