Speaking of the current landscape, are all MIAA schools planning to hold (at least primarily)  in-person classes, or have any committed to beginning on-line?

It sounds like Albion is setting up an electronic perimeter.

4.5 mile perimeter encompasses all of Albion, including all the parts you wouldn't want to go, and quite a bit of the surrounding countryside.  Which is lovely.

From the MIAA Press Release on Sep 8:

The Presidents’ Council voted unanimously to postpone all conference sponsored athletic events until January 2021. The delay in competition will grant institutions, staff, and students additional time to adjust to new safety protocols on campus in the COVID-19 era while also allowing for continued testing and treatment developments, which remain a key factor for the return of athletics across the nation. Sports affected are men’s and women’s basketball and swimming and diving. Wrestling and indoor track and field were not scheduled to compete in any MIAA events prior to January 2021. Each member has institutional autonomy to participate in non-conference events as they deem appropriate for their student-athletes. Development of revised schedules will begin immediately. There are several factors under consideration: the dates of the NCAA Championships, the need for each institution to undergo the NCAA recommended resocialization practices, and when each member school can return student-athletes to campus. All of these factors are a moving target at this time.

The section I bolded is interesting and opens the door to schools pursuing non-conference games as they see fit.  I have doubts if 1) any schools will do that, and 2) how easily any opponents can be found.

I'm not quite sure how to guess at any impacts to men's basketball right now because league play was already scheduled to begin in January. I guess that stays in place and it will be up to each school to determine what impacts, internal and/or external, there are to the viability of their non-conference schedule. Probably starts with a simple "hey do you still want to play this game" phone call then go from there. The statement kind of kicks the can to the ADs to individually start communicating what is going to happen.

I agree.  I also suspect we will see some significant changes to the conference schedule, based on this:

I anticipate a later start in the new year than we traditionally see, just due to campuses not being open as quick after the holidays.  Might we even get to the point of more games per week in order to fit them in before any championships?

I know, I know, still likely we may not get any of it, but it's at least something to think about and discuss.

Before anything happens all schools need clarity from the NCAA on season length, start date/end dates, dates of post-season and criteria for selection.  I'm not sure we've had much of that, but I haven't been paying much attention.    After all that is answered schools can begin squeezing in any games they want to add.

At our present course, IMO at this time, odds seem higher there isn't going to be Winter sports at all vs some basketball in December.

They're just getting around to figuring out spring schedules for fall sports.  I assume they'll get to winter sports when they finish with that.  It appears they're pretty close to getting the soccer schedule worked out.

I think many are now realizing that fall sports schedules in the spring can wait ... so the next season sports can be focused on. At least that is the sense I am getting in conversations I am having with those around the division.
