Any idea which 2020s did or did not show up this fall?

Due to the ongoing global pandemic, I have decided not to try out for the Calvin team this year.

This will come as a great relief to FDF, who didn't put your name on his otherwise-exhaustive list of MIAA Class of '24 and transfer commitments.

I actually tried to enter his name into the list but for some reason Excel always auto-deletes his name as soon as I type it, and pops up some warning about me not being worthy to enter that name into a spreadsheet if I'm not going to compute his OEPCH (Offensive Efficiency Per Credit Hour) or some such statistical nonsense  ;D

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Will there be a 2020-21 NCAA Division III basketball season? If so what will it look like? What will the post-season look like?

It is on the mind of student-athletes, coaches, administrators, parents, and fans for several weeks, if not months, now. We are finally understanding what it may look like as a number of decisions or proposals are now making their way around Division III.

In this month's podcast, Dave McHugh not only downloads all the things being considered and the likely outcomes, but tries to give listeners an understanding of how much is still unknown despite some things becoming more clear.

McHugh also talks to Texas-Dallas women's basketball coach Polly Thomason for her take. Thomason has been in the Division III Women's Basketball National Committee for several years and is this season's chair of the committee. She also serves on the WBCA Board of Governors. Thomason not only provides her perspective on much of what is going on not only in Division III, but in women's basketball as well.

And of course, there is always the Hoopsville Notebook. Unfortunately, there is some sad news in the Notebook this month, but also news to celebrate especially when it comes to DIII alums making news in the NBA.

You can listen to the podcast here: https://bit.ly/3kMl0rZ

Hoopsville broadcasts from the WBCA/NABC Studio. All guests are featured on the BlueFrame Technology Hoopsville Hotline. The offseason plan is to do a podcast each month. The shows will be audio-only leading up to the start of the 2020-21 when we will restart the video shows.

Does anyone have an update on Jamezell Davis over at Albion? It appears that he is not listed on their 2020-21 roster...

It doesn't look like they have officially "published" a roster since the links I find on the Albion athletics site still goes to the 2019-20 roster. However, manually changing the url to 2020-21 does (mostly) look like a real roster taking shape and it does not list Davis Jr.

Adrian has brought in Trine graduate Pete Smith as an assistant coach.

The team confirmed his plans to play this year to me in July - although obviously a lot has changed since then.

It will sound preposterous but Albion might not miss Davis as much as we think.  Crazy, I know.

That's still a pretty strong starting 5 and they'll have 9 upper classmen who all logged regular to good minutes.  I expect at least 1 of the Fr to be a regular minutes kind of player, possibly 2.

Think of it this way if Davis was a Sr and graduated last year, the defending MIAA champs still return their entire roster except for 1 player.  They have a really good program right now.

Do we yet know he's gone?  He may have just skipped fall semester and plans to be there in the spring.  Unless you've got more information than has been shared here, we should probably refrain from assuming he's not playing.

Trine MBB 2020-2021 Varsity roster is up:  https://trinethunder.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/roster

15 listed on the roster: 0 seniors, 8 juniors, 4 sophs and 3 frosh.  Out of the FDF running list of Trine commits, all have enrolled, but only 3 of the recruits are on Varsity:  Mitch Sauber, Christian Knox and Mason Loeffler.  The rest of the commits are listed on the JV roster.

3 new names on the Varisty roster:  Jack McGuire who transferred from Kalamazoo, Nate Carbaugh who transferred from Manchester, and Emmanuel Mengnanglo from Benin Africa by way of Amelia Academy in Virginia.

The other new name on the roster is Connor Jones who played on the JV last year.  The one name not listed on this year's roster from last year is Terrel Bryant who only saw action in 4 games.

This will be the most inexperienced team Trine has had in quite sometime.  Bryce Williams (6ppg) and Brent Cox (8ppg) have the most experience and were starters during the MIAA season.  The other 3 guys who played in last year's rotation were Brandan Johnson (4ppg), Aiden Warzecha (3ppg) and Mitch Geller (4ppg).  Other than that we are pretty green.

I look for us to be in the lower half of the MIAA this year.  Obviously Albion with or without Davis will be the heavy favorite.  Hope and Calvin will be in the running with very good players returning and strong incoming classes.  Alma had heavy grad losses but return some quality pieces.  Olivet was young last year and should be better.  Kalamazoo loses a couple key pieces in Blyly and Reiter but return most everyone else.  And who knows about Adrian, last years pick for the basement and look what they did.  Will be hard to replace Kalonji and Harris offensive firepower though.

Josh Reichsteiner 6-0  SG  Grand Blanc HS will attend Adrian.   Also has a twin brother Jack who has not yet committed anywhere.

Saw a lot of buzz on him from AAU feeds this summer.  Pretty sure he was being recruited by every MIAA school, Cornerstone, Concordia etc.
Grand Blanc should be top 5 or 10 good in MHSAA D1.  They should at least go deep into the tournament.

Kind of ironic that it took us months to find any recruiting news for incoming Adrian freshman this year, but they are leading the pack for 2021
