I wouldn't mind knowing how Manchester was able to play this game today, but not last nights game at Trine.  Manchester went 7-18 last season.

This was a non-conference game.

With this game at Trine and the game on Saturday at Adrian, what were the policies for attendance?  There did appear to be a crowd at the game at Adrian.

Why is there no box score for the Trine-Adrian game, but there is one for the Manchester-Adrian game on the MIAA website?  Is it a metter of keeping up with the changes?

Box score is available on both Trine & Adrian websites, as well as the stats are there in the "season" stats on the MIAA site.  guessing the box score never made it due to the late scheduling of the game and thus it never got on the MIAA schedule.

Here's a link to the box score:

Note this game lists attendance as 210

Noticed that Calvin's schedule is showing a non-conference game with Olivet on Dec 2.  Real?

I believe Trine's stated policy is that faculty, staff, and students are welcome, but no visiting fans.  There are supposed to be masks warn and distanced seating, but neither of those was really being enforced, as far the livestream indicated, anyway.

Most schools have athletics policies on their COVID pages.

Not really sure but Bill Sall mentioned on last week's "Calvin Knight's Roundtable" that they had a few games penciled in and hoped to have three home games before Christmas. He also mentioned the Manchester game on Nov. 14 but I see that is no longer showing up on the Calvin schedule page. Manchester's schedule is showing a game that day against Bluffton. That was the only game he mentioned with any specificity.

Chalk it all up to uncertainty but the message I got from the pod was that there is an institutional desire to get some games in. We shall see how many partners they can find to tango.

It's real.  It remains to be seen if they will be able to play it.

I wouldn't mind knowing how Manchester was able to play this game today, but not last nights game at Trine.  Manchester went 7-18 last season.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference recently mandated that teams can not play games in separate gyms on consecutive days. So Manchester chose to play at Adrian Saturday instead of playing at Trine on Friday evening.  Once Trine got the news late Thursday that Manchester was canceling, the Adrian and Trine university athetic directors got on the horn and made a Friday evening game happen fairly quickly.  Adrian and Trine have been like brothers in arms lately, they've played each other numerous times this fall in almost every sport including hockey where Adrian is just a beast in NCAA D3 hockey.

The latest version of the Calvin bb schedule shows all league games as canceled and also reflects that on Trine's schedule.  Does anyone know what happened or is going on?

Per the above linked discussion with Bill Sall and Jeff Febus, the league is hoping to have a conference season in January but it sounds like the details are in flux. Nothing will be official until any of these games tip off.

Thanks for sharing this article—I was actually looking for some of this information over the last few days.

I think this data comes from the state's coronavirus outbreak reporting website, so it's only reporting cases associated with outbreaks, defined as being "found by their local health department to have two (2) or more COVID-19 cases who may have shared exposure on school grounds and are from different households."  A school will remain on the list until "after 28 days have passed since the last known school exposure from a case."  It's pretty easy to get on the list, but takes awhile to get off.

The Michigan outbreak data is updated every Monday.  A school can (and will) have cases not associated with an outbreak.  As an example, Albion didn't have cases fitting the above definition as of Monday, despite having current and past cases.

As with everything reported from multiple sources, the MIAA schools (and others) have a far from uniform way of reporting COVID-19 cases, and may even vary in how the report to the state, so the following table may not be completely comparable between schools.

According to their websites, the MIAA schools have:

For reference, Albion had 9 active and 51 total on Monday.  According to Albion's COVID-19 website, two fraternities and one athletic team are currently quarantining due to potential exposures.  I'm not sure, but based on that and the increase in cases, it sounds like they may qualify for the outbreak list next Monday.  Adrian, Calvin, and Hope were on the first week of the outbreak list (9/14), Alma joined 9/21, Olivet 9/28, and Kalamazoo 10/12.  Some of the earlier schools may soon qualify to be removed from the "ongoing" list, depending on how the virus has been spreading.

Looking across the other schools (even more variation in reporting):

Albion announced late yesterday they were shutting down athletics, I think for the second time this Fall.

Albion is sending most students home early.  For now, they do plan to be in person again in January (classes are scheduled to begin January 25).
