They were just a better team than Central.

If by "Central" you mean "North Central," then I disagree with your statement.

I'm about 1000000% certain that was a reference to the 2nd win for the Flying Dutchmen in Florida which was versus the Central College Dutch.

I can't argue with math like that, FDF.  :D

Calvin just completed an extremely unusual 2 games in Wisconsin.  Yesterday they start with a hot-shooting first half against highly rated U of  W-Oshkosh and led at halftime 37 to 35.  In the second half they went cold and fell by 22 points.  Today they fell behind by about 15 points in the first half and came back strong in the second half to defeat a good U of W-Stout team that was 10 and 2 coming into the game.  The final score resulted in a 9 point victory after taking the lead in the final 10 minutes.  What was even more surprising is the their leading scorer was a sub, Marcus Bult, with 25 points that  included 6 of 7 three point shot made. The second high scorer was Uchenna Egekeze with 22 points.  As a team Calvin hit 61.1%  on three point shots and 50% overall.  They out rebounded Stout 35 to 31.

The game really turned on what has to be the most unorthodox, but brilliant coaching decision of all-time: Bill Sall telling Thad Shymanski to foul Uchenna Egekeze with the game tied at 77 and just under 5 minutes left. And that's not fake news -- it appears in the PBP I copy and paste below:

04:59   Calvin Foul by SHYMANSKI,THAD   77 - 77
04:59   Calvin EGEKEZE,UCHENNA made free throw   78 - 77
04:59   Calvin EGEKEZE,UCHENNA made free throw   79 - 77

Uchenna's two free throws began a 10 point run for Calvin, and the Knights went on to salt the game from the free throw line. Marcus Bult's heroics saved the day, as he went 5-5 from the arc the first half to keep the game within shouting distance at the break. in addition to a team-high 25 points, Marcus had 7 boards and 4 assists.  I'm guessing the play by the sophomore from Wheaton may lead him to gain a permanent spot in Calvin's starting lineup.

Hope played Central out of the ARC the following day. It was a quick statement as to why I wasn't analyzing that win. Hope and North Central were very evenly matched, as proven by the OT finish. If anything, I would say North Central might win a 7 game series between the two.

I believe Non-conference play is completed.   Alma is short 2 games, Kzoo 1 but I don't see a way for them to pick something up or a reason to.

This is the fewest wins since 2007 and its hard to even be mad about it, the league has simply collectively played a pretty brutal schedule.

Current Massey rankings and SOS

Calvin - 29th and 22nd
Trine - 57th and 60th
Hope - 65th and 8th
Albion - 73rd and 36th
Olivet - 156th and 17th
Kzoo - 208th and 74th
Alma - 264th and 26th
Adrian - 280th and 73rd

Every MIAA team played a schedule in the top 20% of D3 and the majority in the top 10%.

I just joined as well. You might need to post a reminder in here the day before games because I'm not in the habit of checking the new Pick 'Em location yet!

What's the COVID postponement policy? Do we lock in our picks now for future re-schedules?

Hope men's game vs Trine and women's game at Alma cancelled for Wednesday the 5th.  Women's game against Illinois College scheduled for the 6th cancelled.  No makeup dates yet.

Thanks for joining - and I will try to post reminders on Tuesdays and Fridays.

I'm open to suggestions on postponements, but am leaning towards this:

Each orignally scheduled game day (Wed or Sat), you have confidence points 1-4 to use, and you can only use each of them once.  Your selections must be made prior to the beginning of the game (regardless of when it is played). This is the way we have been playing for years.

New Proposal: If a game is postponed and never made up, then you "forfeit" the confidence points you would have had on that game. For example:

If I have used my 4, 3, and 1 point picks for games that actually happen tomorrow, then by default I have to put 2 points on the Trine @ Hope game, but I can predict who that winner is at any point up until the start of that game.  If that game is cancelled completely/never played, then I'm out 2 points.

Thoughts??

New idea - we simply pick the winner of each game and compete on overall W/L % - no confidence points.  Easy to adjust as games are rescheduled, etc.

I'm in, though I'm not abandoning my strategy, and I'll likely forget to post at least once.  :)  Any of these sound fine to me as far as handling postponed games.

On a serious note, I'm sorry to hear that too.

On a slightly less serious note, but only slightly... as a Hope fan, I REALLY hope that the Dutchmen play better at the Kresge in the sky than they tend to at the Kresge down here.
