Hope and Calvin are not doing enough, consistently, to become regionally ranked.  And it's hurting IWU's Results vs Regionally Ranked Opponent situation.

I'll ask both to get it together moving forward.

Thanks.

Just win the CCIW and you won't have to worry about what's going on over here in the MIAA :)

In a battle for seeding with lots of locals - WashU, UWP, UWO.  Need as many RROs as possible.

Help us out!

They rank a lot of teams in that region. I think you'll be ok.

Watching livestream of Albion at Hope and I see Arnulfo has the whistle today.  He's doing okay but the PA announcer is barely audible when announcing a made shot by an Albion player.  I've never heard anything like it.
I was there. He was calling both sides equally. Same volume, tone, inflection. Totally equal and normal.

That being said, it doesn't bother me when a PA announcer is more enthusiastic towards the home team. It's actually expected to some degree. It's when you are completely apathetic to the point of rudeness, instead of calmly business like, towards the away team that I have a problem with it.

Dude, let it go
Am I not allowed to defend my position, "dude"?

Of course you are, I was simply suggesting you move on and perhaps provide some contribution about actual basketball, some players or teams or coaches, strategies or officials or anything to do with the actual game. Hey, if you prefer to keep whining about a PA announcer go ahead, it just seems petty to me.

A bit of weirdness: Sac mentioned that the Hope men on Saturday missed their last 19 3-point shots (a streak they hope not to extend on Wednesday). The normally sharp-shooting Hope women (41.5% season 3-balling), missed their first dozen 3's tonight . . . marking 31 consecutive missed Hope 3's at DeVos. Perhaps a record cold streak for each team, and surely collectively?

Calvin at Kzoo has been postponed to Monday night.

Does anyone know why and which school caused it to happen?

sac

I don't think its ever been publicly stated why, but the Kzoo women's game against Calvin was also postponed along with the Alma women at Adrian game.  Pretty sure we can assume for covid protocols.

Nice mid-season recruiting win for Hope per twitter.  6-6 lefty PF Andrew Leeper from Homestead HS in Ft. Wayne IN (same HS as former Hope players and brothers Chris and Teddy Ray).

I think it's more than a 'nice' recruiting win, it's a huge get for Hope.  Andrew had several DII and NAIA offers.  He plays on the same Homestead team as Purdue bound Fletcher Loyer, and Homestead is one of the better big school (4A) teams in the state.  Has good size, 6'6 and good hops, will posterize you if you get in his way on drives to the basket.  You should google some of his highlight vids.  His last name suits him just fine.  :)

Being a Trine fan I am extremely jealous he is heading north, but I didn't see if we were after him or not, I wish we'd recruit better in Fort Wayne.  Yes we have a couple FW kids on our current roster, but the city cranks out a lot of talent each year.

Hope 81 Adrian 78  F

Ended up seeing a good one in Adrian.   Hope gets a much needed huge second half of 30 points from Evan Thomas to rally and barely hold on to a 3 point win.  One of those nights when Hope didn't have everything clicking and an opponent playing aggressive and confident just kept pushing them.

Words are sort of failing me to properly describe this one.  I think Hope will be unhappy with the sloppy nature of many of their turnovers and some offensive execution that seemed to struggle at times.  Box score isn't broke into halves but Hope's second half (or at least the first 15 min of it) was really excellent, I think it would show a huge disparity towards Hope in rebounding.

Evan Thomas put the team on his back, though he got a lot of help too, in the second half.  Hope seemed to have things under control and then Thomas just simply dog tired and worn down to a nub had to sub himself out.  Adrian really clamped on the now floudering Hope offense and got themselves right back in the game.  Thomas and Hope had just enough to cross the finish line, but even he wasn't immune to committing huge turnovers late.

Hope simply closed this one out poorly, some from Adrian's fight, some from sloppy play.  Thankfully they hit their big FT's and hung on for this key win.  A night when the cliche all roads wins are good wins comes to mind.

Hope:  Thomas 36pts 13rebs ,  Bikus 12, Dykhouse 12
Adrian:  Pelham 25, Chrismon 15, Paul 12,

Sort of perplexed by Adrian's record a little.  I tried hard to think of a better or bigger half of basketball from a Hope player than Thomas had and I can't think of one at all.   36 is a new career high.

I'm rather astounded at the lack of comment on  Alma's startling upset of Trine at Trine.  I believe that all of us in the pickem contest picked  Trine as a 4 point sure thing.  Alma fired 50% on three pointers and also had the return of their best player to boost them.  They  played a strong game in almost every way, but it was still a shocker.

The Scots played phenomenal last night against Trine. You are spot on that everyone (myself included) saw this team as a sitting duck in this battle. Alma has been playing better as of late, losing to K by two and Olivet in 2OT last week alone. With the return of Cole Kleiver, it will be interesting to see how this team fares in the second loop of league play.

Couple key plays from Hope/Adrian

Every single play and contribution is important in a 3 point game,  McKenzie backcourt steal and layup.
https://youtu.be/5kprwrQnyX8?t=2588

Sequence of Thomas put-back, Thomas rebound, Thomas spin move lay in for the lead
https://youtu.be/5kprwrQnyX8?t=5396

Every single play matters, great hustle and block by Lilja after a terrrrrrrible turnover, and great hustle by Wiegerink trailing the play
https://youtu.be/5kprwrQnyX8?t=6103

Really the key play at the end of the game, Pelham steal, hard foul by Bikus that's called intentional.....and I just don't know man
https://youtu.be/5kprwrQnyX8?t=7717

12.3 second left, Adrian ball, 3 point Hope lead.  Please just witness the mastery of this play, then laugh because I did.

Feel free to watch the final 12 seconds, Adrian just never quit

A quick note on Saturday's Alma and Hope game.

Ryan Clark is a perfect 2-0 at DeVos Fieldhouse since taking the Alma College head coaching job.

Prior to the Ryan Clark era, Hope was a perfect 17-0 in games at DeVos against Alma.
Hope had won the last 26 games at the Civic Center as well, so they were on a 43-game home winning streak against the Scots prior to the 2019-20 season. Their last loss was 83-77 in the 1985-86 campaign.
