Apparently an 8 team tournament is being discussed for both men and women.

Does this mean Calvin canceled tonight's game?

Calvin's inestimable SID said tonight's game was postponed due to wintry weather and will be played tomorrow evening instead, Deo Volente.

Hope 79 Alma 71  F
(maybe should be 80)

Hope holds off Alma tonight.  Dutchmen were well on their way early, led 30-16 then spent nearly 9 minutes missing everything and let the Scots right back in the game.  Hope led by 2 at halftime.

Second half Hope started strong, maintained a lead but were never really able to pull to far ahead.  Alma came up with clutch shots when they really needed them several times and got it down to 1 possession at least once.  Josh Lilja hit a huge 3 to put Hope up 7 with a little over a minute left,  some free throws provided the final overall margin.  Hope got it to 10 before Alma knocked in a 6 point trip (3, steal, 3) that got it to 4 and then a highly controversial no call travel on Thomas that could have made the last few seconds super interesting.  But Hope prevails.

Tough road win on a Wednesday night.

Hope:   Thomas 28, Dykhouse 19
Alma:  Kleiver 22, Rake 16

Tyler George did play some tonight, had 8 points.  Hope's shooting woes were really right around the basket in traffic, just had trouble converting some of those, were outrebounded which is disappointing.  Alma's coming along, some really good performances against the leagues top teams.   They're in the middle of a Hope, Trine, Calvin, Albion swing.  Would not surprise me if they played a couple of those tough.

It was great to see Tyler on the floor last night. Getting him back in the flow witht some improved shooting from 3 would be fabulous.  Been a rough year for him from 3 (like most of the team really), but he came into this season shooting .422 from behind the line for his career.

TJ McKenzie continues to impress with his defense and quick hands.  3 steals, 4 ast, 1 blk, and 5 points in 16 minutes off the bench - not to mention the energy he seems to inject in the entire team.

Calvin beats Kalamazoo for the second time this week, this time by 30, in a game that was never competitive. The Hornets are very young, and start 3 freshmen. Several of the young kids from K are actually pretty gifted, but it takes time to develop into a team that is ready to compete at the college level, particularly on defense. Kalamazoo would double-team a lot but then fail to cover as the Knights efficiently moved the ball to find an open man. It was no accident Calvin shot 54% from the floor tonight. A ton of easy baskets.

The first half in particular was really good to see from Calvin. Easy to say that when shots were falling like they were for Shymanski and Bult but they were also locked in on the defensive end. Just felts like a "no screwing around, taking care of business" mentality. Kalamazoo may have given them a game in the first half earlier in the week but this one felt easily over by halftime.

This year might see the easiest 4/5 matchup of all time and the hardest 1/4 matchup of all time.

Agreed.  Lots of games to be played but at this point it is a pretty distinct top 4 and bottom 4 - with not much seperation within each group.  Saturday's games are all top 4 vs bottom 4.  The championship and hosting will come down to how the top 4 do against one another over the remaining games

Top 4 vs Top 4 games to be played:

Hope: @ Trine, Calvin
Calvin: @ Trine, @ Hope, Albion
Trine: Hope, Calvin
Albion: @Calvin

Calvin has the toughest remaining schedule no doubt, Trine and Hope each have 2 games, but Trine does get them both at home.  Albion with a single game in this group (last game of the season).
