It's a simple 4 1/2 hour drive from Calvin to CWRU.  Cleveland is a great place to visit and there are many hotels available at various price points.  Let's all show up to cheer on the Knights in this next leg of their journey.  Go Calvin!

Do I understand it correctly, that Calvin will be playing for The BeltTM this weekend?

Yes indeedy do. Elmhurst, the current holder of The BeltTM, is Calvin's Friday night opponent in the CLE.

Cleveland is a great place to visit. University Circle has the Cleve Institute of Art and other museums nearby. Would definitely recommend a stop downtown at the West Side Market and/or Great Lakes Brewing Co. Don't expect much from the Case gym tho.  It is a far cry from Calvin's beautiful arena. I played hoops at CWRU in the 80's and Coach Sudeck would entice all recruits with a rendering of a new arena "coming soon"". Still hasn't happened lol

Well worth watching, particularly the part where Coach Sall and Dave McHugh took a shot at the Snyder brothers. ;)

Looking at the CWRU pod this weekend from a couple of statistical/historical points of view:

Team Stats & last Regional Rankings (for some reason the Region 10 data sheet says it "has not been publilshed", hence the N/A for UMHB):

Team     Avg Pos/G   Off Eff (PPP)   Def Eff (PPP)      SOS      vRRO
Calvin     67.9   1.166   1.016      0.541      6-5
Elmhurst     69.8   1.173   0.985      0.542      7-5
UMHB     74.1   1.186   1.032      N/A      N/A
CWRU     72.2   1.166   1.059      0.556      6-5

NCAA Tournament History (not sure I have the # of Final Four appearances right for Calvin):

NCAA      Win   Loss   %      Final Fours      Championships
Calvin     36   23   0.610          2
Elmhurst     8   5   0.615          0
UMHB     9   6   0.600          0
CWRU     2   0   1.000          0

How Massey sees it:

Massey     Rank   Score   Probability
Calvin     23   74   0.41
Elmhurst     12   77   0.59
-------------------     -------------------   -------------------   -------------------
UMHB     29   82   0.37
CWRU     22   87   0.63

Not sure about that either, but you nailed the number of National Championships

FDF got it right: four Final Fours for Calvin (fourth place in 1990, first place in 1992, first place in 2000, third place in 2005).

Luke Morrison is featured on the front page of d3hoops.com:

Great piece on a fine young man. It would be fabulous if he has another few collegiate games left to play. Go Luke! Go Knights!

Kind of a strange feeling thinking about this second weekend for Calvin. Went into last weekend as a clear underdog, as most would heading to Platteville, but this weekend feels wide open. That is in part because Calvin now finds themselves paired up with a team they already beat and because Case Western cleared the bracket by knocking out Oshkosh. It really wouldn't surprise me to see any of these four advance to Fort Wayne.

Elmhurst 79, Calvin 77

Bummer of an ending for Calvin after leading most of this one. It was an 8-0 start to the game and was pretty much a back and forth from there with Elmhurst closing the gap and Calvin able to push it back to 6-7. Unfortunately that trend ended late in the game and Lavon Thomas and Jake Rhode were very good to bring it home for the Blue Jays.

In some respects it was amazing Calvin was even in the position they were considering the rough night for Emmett Warners and especially Luke Morrison. The Elmhurst defense was tremendous on Morrison. He had a hard time finding a shot much less getting into any kind of rhythm.

The Knights were carried offensively by Thad Shymanski's 32 points and his perfect 7-7 performance from behind the arc. The rest of the team combined to go just 3-19 from deep.

All told it was a hard fought, competitive basketball game fitting of the round of 16. Just wish it had closed out differently.
