Marcus Wourman Jr.   5-11  PG   East Lansing/Mt. Zion Prep  will attend Hope
(His prep academy listed him at 6-0, EL says 5-8, 5-9 ,5-10 , 5-11 his years there so he'll be 6-4 when he leaves Hope)

Dad, Marcus Wourman  played at Albion in the early 90's.   He runs a very good AAU program in Lansing and has been an assistant for the great East Lansing girls program.

Last I was able to see Marcus he was a Fr/So up and coming prospect at East Lansing.  It was obvious as a Soph he had great potential unfortunately the pandemic ended any chances of me seeing him develop so I can't really speak of the player he's become.  I just know he was the PG of a couple very good East Lansing teams and won a regional championship.  Marcus had some D1/D2 interest, but I don't think D1 offers went more than preferred walk-on.  I can only find one confirmed D2 offer, USC-Aiken.   He went to Mt. Zion Prep in Maryland last year,  there's almost nothing about the kind of year he had.  Overall I think this is a great pick-up for Hope basketball.

Mason Woods   5-10 PG East Lansing will attend Albion

I believe Mason will also play football, had a D2 offer from Northwood in that sport.  Wide Receiver

Mason willed his team to a District win over Grand Ledge I happened to be watching.  Grand Ledge had struggled this year after some big injuries, finally got a mostly healthy team and were kind of punking the heavily favored Trojans all over the gym.  Mason wouldn't let his team lose and led a huge second half comeback.

There is almost no video of Marcus Wourman out there but I did find these game highlights from an East Lansing/Okemos games from 2020.  This was a game that made the league standings a tie at the top between these two with about a week of league play to go, Okemos had beaten them a month earlier handily.  East Lansing lost the next week to Everett handing Okemos the outright title.  Marcus hits the game winning shot.

The pandemic shut things down that first week of high school districts.  Okemos and East Lansing both were in their respective district final and I think would have had real good shots at meeting in the Regional final the next week.

Besides future Hope player Marcus Wourman I think current Albion guard Jonathan Wilkerson's brother is #23, future Albion guard Mason Woods #11, Michigan wide receiver Andrel Anthony #3, 6-10 Ethan Dunn #40 went to prep school and will likely end up in NAIA, Brevin Jackson #20 going to Sienna Heights for football, 6-8 Ethan Boyd #33 is an OT at Michigan State, Malakei Matthews #15 went to IMG prep looking for a football scholarship.  Okemos PG Noah Pruitt #21, went to CC now looking for a home, his brother went to Albion, Will Young #24 likely ending up at a smaller school but MIAA's would love him.  I think there are two current Hope students on both benches and if you look closely after the shot you can catch a glimpse of Olivet assistant head coach Brian Snyder in the crowd.

Jordan Love  5-11 G  Wyoming HS will attend Adrian.

Uh oh...a slew of under 6 footers recently committing.  What's this going to do to the avg height of 2022 incoming class?  ::)

There is a tweet today from @TrineThunderMBB thanking assistant coach Drew Lehman for his commitment and loyalty to Trine Basketball and wishing him the best of luck.  I can't find any more news on Drew but if I am reading between the lines in the tweet it appears he is leaving Trine.  I am assuming he has a head coaching gig lined up somewhere.  He deserves it, been a great asset to the coaching staff for several years now.

Has Alma filled their head coaching position yet?

sac

Joseph Hayes  6-1 G  Shelby will attend Hope

Paul Gadde 6-3 G/F Alma, will transfer from Albion to Alma
He will be a Sophomore, but I'm not sure if he gets the extra year or not?

So with several of the new additions, which team would you wise people think has "won" the recruiting contest this year?

Much like the season we just saw, I'm confident calling the recruiting battle a "top four, bottom four" situation. Beyond that, time will tell.
