The Calvin MBB Twitter account has started to officially announce the recruiting class. Looks like it will be a one per day drip feed with Jalen Overway, Michael Morris and Zach Gritters announced over the last three days. No surprises so far as all three were on the list compiled by FDF, although the tweet lists Gritters at 6-5, not 6-2. Not sure which is correct but If I get to pick I would like him to be 6-5.  ;D

The drip feed has concluded with nary an addition or omission from the recruit list compiled on this board. Good job, team.

Alma College has posted its 2022-23 basketball schedule.
The start of the Coach Fitz era has some fun scheduling nuggets.

Scots will travel to Lake State and Central Michigan for exhibition games.

Home dates with Elmhurst, Grace Christian and Kenyon.

Three weekend trips to Ohio for two-game sets.
Nov 26-27 against Oberlin/ONU
Dec 19-20 against Ohio Wesleyan/Wittenberg
Dec 29-30 against Otterbein/TBA at the Otterbein Tournament.

A fun schedule, with tough opponents, but also some really winnable games. I think Fitz nailed the perfect balance in his first year at the helm.

Adrian is the 4th team at the Wittenberg quad with OWU,   Witt is playing Hope, Adrian, Alma at home in a 4 day stretch.

PSU-Behrend and Manchester are the other two teams at Otterbein.

With the Alma schedule now posted, and Calvin's schedule updated for their Florida trip (playing Augsburg the first day, and either Wooster or Emerson the 2nd day), we now have a full schedule with 3 TBD games based on wins/loses.

Pretty interesting that most of the "tournaments" have moved to a classic format with predetermined opponents.  MIAA teams are involved in 13 total "tournaments" with 10 of them being the classic format.

For the data below, I have assumed an opponent for the 3 TBD games based on last years records - leading to Olivet vs Eureka, Alma vs Manchester, and Calvin vs Emerson.

Team     Known Games   21-22 Record   In 21-22 NCAA      Average Massey      Massey Top 50      Massey Top 100
Adrian     11   0.491   1   161      1 3

Kalamazoo     11   0.473   2   168      2 4
Olivet     11   0.539   2   169      4 5
Trine     11   0.504   1   143      1 3

Conferences the MIAA will face in mulitple games (# of games):

NACC (4)
AMCC (3)
MWC (2)

And only 3 games against non-d3 teams - Alma & Calvin vs Grace Christian, and Adrian vs Siena Heights

And lastly, game location details

It makes sense. Sometimes a team invites a conference opponent to their "tournament" and you don't want to be matched up with them if you both win/lose. I think Point played Oshkosh 5 times one year. One was a scheduled NC game, another was the result of both of them winning the 1st night, 2 conference games and a conference tournament game, if memory serves me correct. I also could be wrong!

Hope and Calvin have been there as well.  In 06-07 there was a matchup in a "non-con" tournament final in Nov, 2 regular season meetings, a conference tournament meeting, and an NCAA 2nd round @ Aurora all in one season.

The tournament layout made a lot more sense when GVSU was involved. Since the team sitting out would rotate, two out of five times Hope or Calvin weren't even playing. GVSU dropped out in 2004, when playing D3 schools became too much of a lose/lose situation for them.

Funniest thing about that 2006-07 season is that the away team won every matchup. With the 5th matchup being neutral.

At Aurora, Hope beat Chicago pretty easily in the first round and since the Hope fans were all in Chicagoland another night, most stuck around to watch Aurora lose a nail biter to Calvin. The host team got a substantial boost in cheering from an amused Dew Crew that game. Aurora's Thornton Gymnasium seats 1200 generously. A far cry from the neutral site game at Van Andel Arena 10 years prior that had over 11,000 in attendance.
Let's go Dutchmen!

Funny, I can actually say I was down there in Aurora. Point had a bye the 1st round, so I drove down there to see those games. A good time.

It looks like Calvin has also added (what I assume has to be an exhibition game) at Ferris State on October 29.

The-person-known-on-these-boards as KnightSlappy and I launched a D3 basketball youtube show last month (link in the sig) and one of the topics we discussed for this time leading up to the new season is a D3 basketball bucket list. We have been trying to solicit feedback for that via the YT channel and twitter but wanted to put out the call here as well as we know not everyone is connected on those platforms.

We got started with a few items of our own and some feedback from others already but are looking for as much input to consider as possible. If you have a game, venue, event, etc. you think is essential bucket list material for any D3 basketball fan please send me a private message this week and we will be sure to add it to the list. Thanks!

It was four.

Two conference, one in a tournament in Las Vegas over Christmas, and one in the conference tournament.

Peyton TerMeer ('23) of Corunna has committed to Kalamazoo.

(I don't know if FDF has started the 2023 list yet :))

Trine 2022-23 MBB roster is "officially' up.

https://trinethunder.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/roster

16 guys on Varsity, 8 returners and 8 newcomers.  Class breakdown of 4 seniors, 4 juniors, 3 sophomores and 5 freshman.  My projection of starters would be:  G Conner Jones, F Brent Cox, C Emmanuel Megnanglo, G Jackson Jannsen and G Grant Pahl.  Pretty certain about Jones and Cox,  Megnanglo finally gets his opportunity to start and log more minutes.  Jannsen is a transfer from Manchester who should contribute right away.  Pahl is more of an uncertainty.  I like Soph Ryan Preston to get more time this year and I've heard good things about another transfer Cameron Awls from Defiance.  Of the freshmen I like Logan Gard to get a lot of time, and possibly Nathan Tucker who is a very good athlete.  I don't know much about another transfer from Northern Michigan, Reece Castor.
