How am I not understanding... Calvin got all 7 first place votes = 7 points. Trine got Calvin's first place vote and all 6 other second place votes, equaling 13. Wouldn't that mean Hope's point total would be at best 21, if they got everyone's third place vote? Not the 19 it says?

I think Hope would get second place votes from Calvin and Trine.  Would that make it add up?

Yes, each team only can have 7 votes for them, but each position (1st, 2nd, etc) has 8 total votes.

Calvin voted: Trine, Hope, ...
Trine voted: Calvin, Hope, ...
Hope voted: Calvin, Trine, ...
everyone else voted: Calvin, Trine, Hope, ...

Yes yes, thank you... Hope would get Trine's second place vote too. It all adds up now, thank you!

On that note, it's pretty telling that the whole MIAA unanimously agrees that the preseason rankings should be...

1. Calvin
2. Trine
3. Hope
4. Everyone else

Speaking as an outsider looking at the big picture in the MIAA, I think that the key question here is whether the five teams that constitute #4 can beat anybody else other than each other. As Matt and Zac alluded in their most recent D3 Datacast show, any potential Pool C aspirants from the MIAA are going to get dragged down by an insufficient SOS unless the rest of the league gets its act together in terms of winning games outside the circuit.

Pretty much where I had thought we'd be with the poll...a clear cut top 3 and a clear cut bottom 5.

Oberlin winning 67-60 at Adrian last night does not help the cause...

From all reports I've heard, Oberlin should be pretty good this year.  Obviously you'd like them to win one this close, but it's not going to be as bad a loss as Oberlin might've been in recent years.

Oberlin was picked 7th in the NCAC poll, I believe you are thinking of Otterbein who was picked 4th in the OAC
