Trine with 2 big road tests this week: tomorrow afternoon against Anderson and Wednesday evening against Elmhurst.  Anderson with a record of 7-2 has a good road win at Wabash and a close loss at Carthage.  Elmhurst is 8-0 and ranked 15th and counts wins against Illionis Wesleyan and Carthage among others.  Coming out of this week with a split on the road would be a good result.  Especially if Megnanglo is still out.

Nice weekend for the MIAA, going 5-1 including 2 big wins for Albion out in California.  League is now 37-24 vs D3 opponents, with 6 teams with records over .500.  Last season we finished the non-conference with a record of 36-49, so we have already exceeded that win total!

Adrian is hosting Hiram tonight. This is absolutely their best shot at getting a W this season.

It is! In fact, the computers agree that Adrian is actually a slight favorite tonight. Massey favors Adrian by 3, D3 Datacast has a computer line of Adrian -2.5.

Adrian is on the board! It's a 79-58(!) win over Hiram.

Calvin withstood a couple runs from UW-Stevens Point in a 81-70 win. Earlier in the day, Trine stayed unbeaten with a 79-76 win at Anderson. The league will have to settle with a 3-1 day with Kalamazoo falling to Redlands 101-58 in a game that went about how I thought it would.

Calvin, Trine and Hope now all have projected SOS numbers of .540 or better. Great news for the chances the MIAA will be a multi-bid league this season.

Calvin 1 point shy of being ranked #1....

Phew!

Teams that get ranked #1 seem to immediately lose a game and drop in the polls.

John Carroll vs Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday: I'm looking at you.

Uh oh, if you believe that logic, Calvin should be number 1 just in time for the Platteville game

Uh-oh, it's not looking good for Calvin vs. Platteville. Hampden-Syndey is leading John Carroll 62-45 late in the game.

No new poll till the new year, so no worries about Calvin moving up.

Phew. And anyway, maybe the pollsters will come to their senses and put Guilford at #1.

If Calvin is voted #1, which MIAA team will crush their souls first?   :D

Trine suffers 1st defeat at #15 Elmhurst 81-74

The Thunder with a good first half, jumped out to a 15-2 advantage before Elmhurst righted the ship to regain the lead around the 8 minute mark.  Then Trine surged back in front and led 41-30 at the break.  The second half belonged to the Bluejays.  They ran their offense to perfection and hit a high percentage of shots, they had a lot more open looks than Trine.  We didn't share the ball as much in the second half, too many times our possessions were guys trying to take their defender off the dribble and ended up with contested shots at the rim.  We didn't quit, but give credit to Elmhurst, they are a very good, veteran, well coached team.

Key stats:  Free throws: Trine 5-6, Elmhurst 20-24.  Rebounds: Trine 25, Elmhurst 41.  Second half FG%: Trine 39%, Elmhurst 58%

Third game without starting center Megnanglo, still out with a hand injury.

Doesn't get any easier with Berry and UW-Platteville coming to Angola next Friday and Saturday to take on the Thunder in doubleheaders with Calvin.

Trine: C Garland 15, Smylie 15, Cox 11, Moore 11
Elmhurst:  Ittounas 26, Zapinski 16, Johnson14, Pemberton 13
