Thnanks KS - tough way to end for Jalen and the Knights.  Still was a great season (thus far) for the league!!

'Hack-a-Shaq' works well, especially when the player on the receiving end only goes to the line two or three times. Trinity didn't give a bench player significant minutes for his scoring. He had five fouls to give and wanted them to count. Trinity was fortunate the officials didn't see it that way, nor did they see the Ohio-like abuse from the Trinity fans as against NCAA rules.

Got to play these games in Michigan.

I know I didn't see the game but Hack-a-Shaq on a guy who shoots 75% from the line doesn't sound like good strategy.  Playing hard, physical defense (especially in the NCAAs where they tend to let more stuff go) is good strategy on everybody.

Trinity routinely gives the bench guys minutes.  They run a five-in, five-out most of the time.  The bench had far better defensive numbers than the starters in this game.

Maybe -- I would want to do as good a job as possible before committing to a list on paper, but No. 1 remains UW-Platteville against Hampden-Sydney in double OT in the 1999 national title game.

Agreed. The play-by-play repeatedly mentioned the player had averaged only 4 minutes per game and was playing significantly more. Being pulled to the ground and called for a travel seems a bit odd.

It works very well when the officials don't put him on the line. If Overway shot 100% from the line he would have scored one more point, to a total of four.

Overway is as complete a C as you can have in D3.  There are probably a dozen maybe slightly more teams in all of D3 that have the size and depth to deal with him in a physical manner.  You're bound to run into 1 or 2 of those in the tournament.

Trinity was  a top 5 team all year from a conference with a lot of D3 mens basketball hardware laying around.

Anyway, what's up with Brent Cox? Starts and plays about 20 mpg, averages a respectable 10 and 5 during the regular season. Now, he can't buy a minute. Something like 20 total minutes in 4 post season games? Ouch.

Disappointed about the crowd size for the Elite 8 game. Box score says less than 1200?? Even if the students were gone, that's really poor support.

Apparently Overway got injured during the Trinity game? They really locked him down.
.

I realize the box score said 1181 attendance, but there is no way that is accurate.  There were 2230 the night before against WashU and the crowd if anything was bigger against UWP.  I'd say MTI was 2/3 full, capacity is 3500, so maybe 2300.  We're one of the top 5 in attendance in D3.  The community has really gotten behind the Thunder.  I am expecting a huge contingent of Trine fans at the Coliseum on Thursday.

Were they eating the cost of tickets for students or for season ticket holders?  It could be the 1181 was actual tickets sold and not people in the building.

That would still count as a ticket sold. I too was surprised by the number but I try not to question NCAA Tournament numbers since there is accounting involved.

I think that he was the best big man JCU played this year, but I would not agree that he is as "complete a Center as you can have in D3."

I am also very surprised to hear that he has or may have D1 offers to transfer.  I would think, at best, he would have the opportunity to give 2-3 minutes of rest per half to the true D1 big men in the program.  Maybe I am off, but that is how I see it.  I csn't imagine they want a transfer and a scholarship used for that.

What does that mean - "Ohio-like abuse"?

Seeing an adult in apparently the JCU parent section screaming at a Calvin player while "giving him the finger" was new. The nearly constant reigning of various taunts including multiple "f-cks," down on visiting players, coaches, and staff, is pretty standard men's basketball fare when visiting Ohio from up north. The NCAA allows it, and it can have a detrimental effect on some people, so it's an effective strategy--sportsmanship aside.

Also, get off my lawn; I'm old.
