Quote from: Flying Dutch Fan on July 08, 2024, 02:16:05 PMOlivet schedule is out:

https://www.olivetcomets.com/sports/mbkb/2024-25/schedule

Pretty tough schedule for the 8 known games with 3 TBD - @Elmhurst on a Wed and Dubuque (@Wheaton Pfund Classic) the following Friday.  Only 1 home game out of the 11 at Home for the Comets!!  They also have 2 exhibitions @ NW Ohio (NAIA) and @ Findlay (DII)

While the Olivet schedule shows the games at the Loras event as TBD Nov. 8 and 9, the Loras schedule page shows:
Olivet vs. Simpson - Nov. 9
Olivet at Loras - Nov. 10

I'd mark Olivet down as the underdog in both of these to add to what already looks like a difficult schedule for them. Not what the rest of their conference-mates would like to see for their SOS under the previous ranking/selection system but maybe less of a concern with NPI.

Agreed - and let's hope they either surprise us all with some good wins, or that (as you said) the losses won't hurt as much with NPI.  I think Olivet may have the toughest schedule in the league - 3 NCAA tourney teams from last year, and playing nesarly their entire non-con on the road or at neutral sites

Quote from: Greek Tragedy on July 09, 2024, 09:45:48 AM1 home game in the non conference schedule? That's insane. There's four tournaments in there, so it's not like you're getting those as home games next season. That's a crazy schedule.

A tough schedule mostly played on the road is the norm under Hargraves.  Since he arrived at Olivet, their average non-con schedule is 2 games at home, 4 on the road, and 5 neutral site games.

Coach Hargraves had a similar mix in the non-con during his time at Alma, averaging 3 games at home, 4 on the road, and 4 neutral site games.

That's odd. Does no one like coming to Olivet? Doesn't he want his fans, family and other student athletes to see his team play home games? Does he ever schedule home and home series?

I suspect the fact that he scheduled similarly at Alma points to what I believe could be his philosophy about the non-con: Make it as challenging and difficult as possible to prepare your team for the MIAA.  Not only does he schedule lots of non-home games, he also schedules games with very tough opponents.

And if you'd ever been to Olivet you'd know the answer to "Does no one like coming to Olivet?".  Not much there other than the college - population of the city is 1484, while Olivet University has enrollment of  941.

LOL. I mean, you're going to play basketball, not tour the city. I don't think opponents schedule Point to see the city...maybe the Brewery though.

There is going to be some Thunder inside the White House this coming Monday:

https://trinethunder.com/news/2024/7/17/trine-mens-basketball-visiting-the-white-house.aspx

Also for those on here who like to visit MIAA athletics websites, Trine has now teamed up with Sidearm Sports as their official website partner, switching from PrestoSports.  Whole new look.

Another transfer headed to Calvin, this time from D3 and a MIAA school. Tyler Horky, 6-2 guard from Kalamazoo College, will attend graduate school at Calvin University and use his COVID year to play for the Knights. He averaged 14.4 ppg for the Hornets in his senior season.

If I'm not mistaken I think that will be Grinnell's first appearance in Michigan.

It will actually be their second...they play at Kalamazoo the day before: https://pioneers.grinnell.edu/sports/mens-basketball/schedule/2024-25

Also, it seems very unusual that Alma would play a road game at Wittenberg then host Grinnell on back-to-back days. Probably a case of doing what you have to do to make a schedule come together.

I thought the same about those games.  Wittenberg (290 miles from Alma) on a Sautrday, with Grinnell the next day.  Sunday games tend to be afternoon more often than evening (Grinnell has a 525 mile ride home after that game).  That all sounds pretty tough, and then add in you have to play versus "the system" in that second game - yuck!!!

It is worth noting that Alma played @ Grinnell last season, so this isn't an unexpected opponent

The esteemed Pat Coleman made this trip last year. He attended Friday's MBB games at the GLI at Wittenberg and then drove to Alma for a football playoff game Saturday afternoon. I'm sure the Scots took inspiration from him.
