Quote from: Flying Dutch Fan on September 10, 2024, 08:44:39 AMI see the Calvin schedule now has a 1st night opponent for the Heidelberg tourny - UW Oshkosh.  That means Calvin plays them twice in a 20 day span - Nov 15 @ Heidelberg, and Dec 5 in Oshkosh - yuck!

How might that inpact any NPI ranking?  I would assume no different than the fact that you play a conference opponent twice.

I believe that is correct, it is like playing a conference opponent twice, except here Calvin will be playing Oshkosh once on the road and once on a neutral site.

It gets a little quirky not only because it's a neutral-road series but also because the men's basketball committee chose to have a different set of home/away multipliers for non-conference games and conference games.

I really like that I can get this on my Roku (like I do for Youtube, etc.) and have one spot for all the MIAA contests!

Oh wait, it appears that Adrian, Calvin, and Hope are all continuing to use YouTube and so any home contests for those three schools are not part of this new network.  Kind of not really the MIAA Sports Network, when you have 37.5% of the MIAA not using it on the mens side (33.3% for women).  Very interesting...

YouTube is the best streaming platform in my opinion. It's so easy to jump back/forward 10 seconds or scroll through the timeline to watch a play over again. Many other platforms make this impossible to do with any degree of accuracy.

I'm not exactly sure how this will all work but I was under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that all contests would be able to be found on the new network, but might not be the ONLY place to find them. It seems at least Hope and Calvin intend to continue streaming on YouTube (fine by me!) but so far I don't see any of their future streams showing up as integrated into the MIAA Network.

Interestingly, I discovered that there are institutional landing pages, such as https://miaasportsnetwork.com/tuthunder/ for Trine, but the url https://miaasportsnetwork.com/cuknights/ redirects to the Calvin's athletics YouTube channel. The Hope url https://miaasportsnetwork.com/hcflyingdutchmen/ does not redirect but only shows one upcoming stream - the football game AT Olivet.

Still quite a bit of "wait and see", I guess.

Trine University's 2024-25 MBB Roster is up:

https://trinethunder.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

No surprises as Trine's MBB Twitter account has been announcing the roster over the past month or so.  Those not returning to the team that had eligibility remaining are Grant Pahl, Ryan Preston and Hayden Jones.  The newcomers are 3 Grad Students: Cam Smith, Max Greenamoyer, Trevor Montiel, and Freshman Cade Brenner. Logan Gard also returns to the roster after being out with season ending surgery.  It will be a very experienced team, with 5 Grad Students, 3 Seniors, 4 Juniors, 1 Sophomore and 1 Freshman.  I know Coach likes to keeep the roster around 15 players, so as the season progresses there could be a roster spot or two available, more than likely to Colin Shriver and Drew Cwik.  Of note there are zero JV guys from last season's undefeated team that were elevated to the Varsity, although Evan Lumbrezer split his time between the 2 teams.  We should have a solid team with aspirations of another NCAA tournament run.

Given the changes in NCAA rules, when do basketball practices start this fall?

October 15 remains the official start date but this is the second year that seasons in Division III are counted by days (instead of weeks) and programs have the ability to use a limited number of their days early. Many programs who are choosing to use days in advance of October 15 have already begun.

Just saw another 2025 recruit for Olivet - bringing their total up to 4 for next year, surpasing the 3 we knew about for this season:

2025 Commits
Tarren Calvert - 5-11 G - Wyoming (MI)
Levi Stambaugh - 6-0 G - Mason (MI)
Warren Williams - 6-1 G - Wyoming (MI)
Alex Gunuise - 6-2 F - Allendale (MI)

It appears Jordan Scott is not on the roster. All other potential returnees with significant minutes are back.

Also a JV roster here: https://calvinknights.com/sports/jv-mens-basketball/roster/2024-25

I believe this accounts for all the names who have hit the message board, save for Luke Michmerhuizen who is currently playing football.
