With 4 steals in last night's game against Kalamazoo, Aidan Smylie has now become the all time steals leader in program history with 188 in his career.  He may not make all-conference because he doesn't score that much at 7 ppg, but is second on the team in rebounds, first in assists, first in steals, second in blocks, and if there were a stat for this, first in floorburns diving for loose balls.  He does so much to help this team compete at a high level.  He knows his role so well, one of the hardest competitors I've seen at Trine, ever!

Reading an old message today reminds me I need a Thad Shymanski rec league update, is he dominating?

Maybe I'm reading too much into this Twitter (X)  post https://x.com/hope_basketball/status/1893305417838506227?s=46&t=78thgC6hYc-cDhR-hoc3dg

Is Hope honoring Wourman and Mims as seniors today too? If true, you thought this season was not great for Hope?... hooo boy

Yeah he's a true Junior. So him and Mims are both

A. Graduating Early
B. Transferring and they are honoring them (which I don't like)
C. Hopes social media is ran by a student and they messed up

Greek Tragedy

I would find it hard to believe a team would honor a player knowing he's transferring after his junior season.

Neither of them were honored today. Expect them both back next season

Nice 70-53 win by Calvin over Trine today to finish the MIAA undefeated (first time since 2000 I think?).  They got off to 20-2 lead to start, and from there it seemed Calvin sustained about 15-20 point lead throughout the game.  Calvin really is going to have cut back on their turnovers asap if they want to make a run in tourney, should they make it.  They were fortunate that Trine shot so poorly, but nonetheless, a 17 point victory over the defending national champs and second place team is hard to complain about.

Yes, hearty congratulations to Coach Bill Sall and his staff and hard-working team on a 14-0 MIAA campaign and 18 consecutive wins after a teetering 1-6 start. With Jalen Overway sidelined this year as a medical redshirt, the Knights had to find another way to win and a smothering, unrelenting defense proved to be the answer. Two more wins next week will assure the Knights of a chance to make some noise in the national tournament. Go, Calvin!

Happy Calvin Guy

Congrats to Calvin on being only the fourth team in MIAA men's basketball history to go 14-0 in conference play, joining 1959-60 Hope, 1999-2000 Calvin, and 2011-12 Hope.

Attendance at the Calvin-Trine game was 2836. That's the largest non-Hope-game crowd I've seen in many years. Maybe a decade?

A fun day at DeVos, as Hope reversed their loss at Albion with an 81 to 56 win before 2325 fans.

The really fun part—-for fans and for their ecstatic, supportive teammates-—was having seniors Josh Decker, Ben Wagar, and Zach Hawes move into the senior-honoring starting lineup, and promptly draining 5 of 5 3-point shots in the first 2 minutes and 40 seconds.

They ended the game having played a combined 35 minutes, and scoring 38 points, including 10 of 13 triples. So cool . . . and for the team (shooting 53% and with only 9 turnovers) quite the turnaround from the dismal prior game at Olivet.

Actually ran into Thad at the Calvin-Trine game today.  He is completing his graduate studies in physical therapy, and yes, still playing in a rec league with many ex-college players (including John Teske from U of M). I assume he is dominating.

18 consecutive wins and running the table through the conference. Go Knights!
