Hey guys.  This is in response to "aplayerhater."  You sound like an ex-player of alma's coach who if u know him and played for him you probably wouldnt like him.  But thats a whole knew topic.  To say that alma hasn't brought anything in is an understatement.  This campus has been loaded with talent, but players have been screwed so they decided to leave.  If the athletes that came in to play at alma over the past three years i've been here still played, They would have the best team in the MIAA hands down.  Players Like the Ott twins from 2002, 2003 seen many good fresmen from the inner city come in.  Those such as A. J. Anthony Naylor, Mike Thompson, Jermaine Jackson, Dominik Allen, Darryl Peterson.  2004 brought in a second team league player in Mark Barnes, one who took the MIAA by surprise and had a 17 rebound 28 point game in his freshmen year.  This year with the departure of Jones and Naylor to better schools, Alma has borught in two very good very capable transfer students in Mike Murphy and Cory Massey.  So do your research before you decide to open your mouth and talk trash about something you dont know.  You probably have never laced up a pair of sneakers in your life and your talking trash about teams.  It is hard to rebuild a team that is known to have a poor record in the MIAA.  Alma shocked a lot of teams last year and if they had better coaching they probably would have won more games then what they did.  Dont sleep on Alma, though I only give them five wins based on coaching, They have the potential to compete with any team in this league if the coaching improves.

Does anyone know anything about the two 6'9 kids from olivet

Ok the Barnes kid was alright but not really a help to Jones he just took away some of Jones good shots for bad ones.  A kid, I'm just going to put this out there that you must be Barnes guessing because of the name Sag as in Saginaw and the fact that you say your a player.  or Clarkston.  So lets be real kid you guys are not going to win the league and everyone has a career game against Tri State.  I do think you can be a great player (but not as good as Jones) if you where at lets say Calvin.  This is a dissucion board so I can disscuss what ever I want kid.  If your coach sucks he sucks.  Eddie has obviusly not put in the hours to coach a team.  Why can't he get players to stay? answer that and he is the reason Alma is a laughing stock of the league.  The best players and the least amount of wins anyone else see something wrong with that?  And Jordan led the bulls to the playoffs so what is your point?  Barnes leading scorer maybe, playoffs NEVER! (in the kohtala era that is)
and you do give a 2 cents because you responed!

sagstud

Out of the respect for everyone else on this discussion board, I'm not gonna carry on with this useless conversation or battle over what Alma College Basketball it doing. You clearly have a hard spot to coach Kohtala and obsessed with AJ's game. So I'm gonna leave it at that. If you really don't care for what Alma is trying to do than why even commit on the matter. To also throw something out there, this isn't Clarkson, so try to take shots at someone who didn't make 2nd team all conference as a freshmen. You can say all you want about how our coach sucks and Alma Basketball is this and that but don't ever try to address my game cause I've work hard to get where I am today and don't need you or anyone else trying to shake me down. Starting to look forward to season opener alot more. Have a nice day.

Hahahaha, you dudes crack me up.  Yea your right, they wont win the league with Eddie at the reins.  And There is a huge problem when u have the best talent and the weakest record.  This topic is something that should be discussed because these forums will continue to only be about hope calvin and albion, until Eddie has gotten his walking papers.  Somebody seems a lil offended by "aplayerhaters" resonse. It'll be alright kid, just drop 30 and 10 a night and prove the doubters wrong.  You know I got ya back (even though i feel your only gone win 5 games  ;D).   Im picking an upset, Alma over hope by 3 at hope.  anyone else got upsets?

Oh yea, Olivet might have the best team of them all, especially with the two 6'9 kids if they pan out to be good.  The best big man in the confrence is Brandon Crawford!

MIAAFAN3002

This is a joke to have players from Alma talking about themselves on here.  Without Jones, they will finish last in the league.  Barnes is an average player at best.  The only reason he made 2nd team is because the other teams had atleast 2 people on Jones at all times.  Barnes won't be anything his sidekick Jones.  There is a reason people talk about Calvin, Hope and Albion and that is becuase they always win.  Billy Collins or so me kid from Tri-State will lead the leauge in scoring this year which is such a meaningless award becuase the player who leads the league in scoring usually is on a bad team.

Glad to see someone give Brandon Crawford some props on here.  It will be interesting to see how his game changes without DePree able to get the ball to him even when Crawford was being double teamed. I think Crawford has the ability to be an MVP contender, but he is going to have to step it up in a different way this year.

Sagstud-While Barnes is a great player, at this point Mark is not even the best MIAA player from his family.  Milton's teams did more than scare the good teams.  They actually beat them.

Most of you probably recall that Brandon Crawford played at Oberlin College as a freshman.  He was pretty dominant that year, despite being a one-man team.  I hardly need to tell those of you with even a rudimentary knowledge of D3 hoops that Oberlin had nobody who could get him the ball, and that he was constantly double-teamed.  If he has matured and progressed as a player (and I'm quite sure he has, especially having seen him play against Wooster last season), and since he is playing in a MUCH better system now (as compared to OC), I think it's reasonable to expect a big season out of him this year.

"This topic is something that should be discussed because these forums will continue to only be about hope calvin and albion, until Eddie has gotten his walking papers."

Stinger, I take offense on your behalf. (Kzoo is represented on this board too, Almalovers.) I always enjoy your ruminations on Hornetland. Yes, I think it's quite possible to see 3 teams this year--maybe even a 1st round rematch of Kzoo/Hope from 1996?

How about a new topic? Who are the frontrunners for MIAA MVP? Here's my early candidates--

Adrian: Billy Collins...One of the league's better all-around players. He will especially need to step up if Mike Lewis is indeed not playing.

Albion: Brandon Crawford...Definitely a horse down low. Street & Smiths wasn't far off when they named him a preseason All American. It's definitely his team now that 2 other AA's are gone, but can he emerge?

Alma: Mark Barnes is the only option on an otherwise unproven roster. May get some consideration if they don't finish in the bottom 4 for once.

Calvin: Andy Draayer...My darkhorse, as he finished last year 9th in the nation in D3 at 45.5% on 3ptrs. His only 2 drawbacks to winning (provided Calvin finishes high enough) are 1) that Aultman is no longer there to take some of the defensive pressure off and give him the open looks and 2) the emergence of Josh Meckes into a dominant post threat who might take away a few votes of his own.

Hope: Andy Phillips...The only player left in the conference who's won it before, and also a preseason All-American. But he faces the same threat as Draayer, in that there's talent around him (think Immink, Cramer) that will steal some thunder.

Kzoo: Kyle Konwinski...a threat for a 30 pt night every time he steps foot on the floor. He's money from the outside but can also take guys off the dribble.

Olivet: De'Andre Pruitt...Team's leading scorer last year. Also a great rebounder and shot-blocker. May make some noise on a team that has potential to rise to the top 4 this year. (Do they really have 18 players on their varsity?)

Tri-State: at 2-12, 5-21 last year with not much hope for improvment this year, I will not offer an early opinion.

BarnesnMasseyFan

I meant no disrespect to hornetland at all.  Especially seeing how they might have a better record then us alma scotts.  But I have Brandon Crawford for MVP.  The Kid is just that good, who's gonna stop him in the MIAA?  everyone else can be contained, he's the only one I can see that can go out and average 20 and 10 on a nightly bases.

Stinger

Thanks for looking out for me devossed.  I would love to see the Hornets back in the tourney. Hard to believe it was 10 years ago this season that took place.  Coach Passage will work things through and will have the Hornets in the top 3 consistently again.

What teams are playing DI schools this year? K has WMU and Albion plays Oakland (dont think that's an exhibition though).  Any others?

I like Crawford as a preseason pick for MVP. He's a beast in the middle. Few teams have anyone big enough to battle with him down low.  I would like to see the refs in the MIAA make him work a little harder though.

hoopaholic, how'd the golf season treat you? Im sure you got your cap down to about a 3?
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

It seems that two of the Miaa's finest will be joining the Olivet Staff for a coaches clinic.

Here is the Link

Do you think these coaches are there to give out their good stuff or just to get a look at what Olivet is doing with the new coach

Crawford is a beast but win not be the MVP.  The MVP will come from Calvin or Hope,  My dark hourse is Josh Meckes for MVP because he plays well on both ends and will gobble up a lot of double-doubles with a few monster blocks.  The Favorite is Andy Philips he's won it before and Hope will lose no more than 3 league games. (probable only lose 1 at Calvin) Crawford will have good numbers like Jones of the past but his team will not be the 8th ranked team like they are picked to be.  Albion is very vunerable to lose to any team this year.  and for the KID its not that I'm obessed with Jones' game I'm just not impressed by yours! (you have a big body and don't use it to your advantage you bail out defenses by shooting terrible 3 point shots)
