Briton Backer

FDF-Hoffman retired, Ernie did not.  He is still working in at least one other league in the state.

In regards to Hope's invitation to those two-as a visiting team, it would raise some very serious questions for me to realize that the officials had been handpicked by the home team's coach, regardless of the circumstances.  Not that it would make me feel better about the whole thing, but it's not like the Dutchmen were playing someone like Andrews or Grace Bible for whom a biased ref would be the least of their problems.

BB - I'm just posting what I read in the Holland Sentinel

Also, the officials were/are picked by the athletic department.  I believe it is a standard practice for D3 schools to pick the officials for non-league home games.   It definitely is done that way for a home tournament.   So before you go railing on Hope, realize that the Britons probably do the same thing.

fdf, I just thought it was funny because I remember reading that you said you were going to wear those shorts Friday, and then I saw the only guy in the arena wearing orange shorts.  I'm glad you could see both games today.

Vanderheide's biggest asset is the head on his shoulders. If you watch him on and off the ball, he makes the best choices possible every time. The scariest thing is that he is a sophmore.

I think Hope learned a big lesson with today's win and that lesson is that defense wins games.

Calvin gained some much needed momentum with two wins this weekend. You can see from watching their freshmen that they have some serious talent.

All in all, a good weekend.

FDF, SAC, or other partisan hope fan....does Tom Renner have a problem with D3Hoops?  or does Glen?   I'm wondering, because this season and last season, Hopes scores are not hitting the D3Hoops scoreboard with any timeliness.   My main source of who won is the posts from you guys.  IE  the Friday night scores, either Calvin or Hope were not up by 11PM..... today the Hope score from this afternoon is not currently up at 11:30.   I'm sure there are a handful of "relocated"fans like myself who miss seeing these scores with reasonable timeliness .. if there is a problem, or if tom isn't aware of the scoreboard  (hard to imagine), maybe one of you guys could help remedy????  I'm really curious.   FDF - wish you would have worn those shorts when we met over Barbeque this summer!!!!

hopefan - I'm sure that Tom & Glen have no issue with d3hoops - considering Andy Philips was on the team of the week last week, which happens based on a nomination from the SID (Tom).  I suspect that the slowness for Tom comes from his busyness.  Not only does he handle his SID duties for Hope, but is also the host of the conference website.  While this isn't the best answer, you will find the scores posted much earlier on www.miaa.org.

And I probably would have worn the orange shorts this summer, but I have this thing about them being just for home Hope games.  I had a pair I always wore to games at the Civic, which I retired.  And bought these new ones last summer, but never wore them until opening night.  For away games, I'm dressed more "normally".

I see Dr Docking has not addressed the issue of coaching Mens basketball. I hope he moves on this asap so it doesn't subject the college, town & everyone involved to another wasted year. I see no growth,no recruits in this program
if this is not handled soon.

Just to add what was said, Tom runs the Hope news site and the Hope internal site.  I am not sure what other colleges have (although I have looked many times to see other school's rosters and news for games) but Hope's is pretty complete.  Tom usually gets that updated all weekend long with his staff in the PR office.  But even still, with late night and weekend games, I can see how sending scores to D3 Hoops is not a priority each night.  Perhaps, the IT people can hook up http://www.hope.edu/pr/athletics/livestats/ so that it sends home scores to D3 Hoops and other sites as soon as their is a final?

Didn't Adrian just announce a new football stadium (if I am not mistaken they are calling it a Performance Stadium or something like that because it will have a track and I would assume sports like soccer and lacrosse)?  It seems that there is only so much a small school can do at a time on the sports scene.  And while I do not know about Adrian basketball, a lot of times coaches are also professors.  That would also factor in.  Any way, just a thought.

I'm pretty sure that the CCIW's director of officiating assigns the refs for all games played by the league's eight schools, whether conference or non-conference.

My final thoughts regarding my initial question on Hope's reporting of scores to D3Hoops - I see most other scores, and certainly most scores of the prime programs across the country on a timely basis, why not Hope's?  Perhaps the best answer is simply that Tom does such a good job on the Hope and MIAA site that D3hoops must be pushed to later consideration.  Still..... ahh well, issue closed.

In response to the criticism of the Adrian coaching, I have to scratch my head a little.  Last year's team finished lower than they'd hoped, true, but the league was about as strong as it has ever been.   I mean, there were 2 elite 8 teams in the conference.  This year, they had to replace several players that are hard to replace, especially from a leadership standpoint.  Nokovich just came back, as did Lewis.  I think you'll see a steady improvement as these two get into basketball shape again.

As far as recruiting is concerned, as long as Coach Riley is there, Adrian will continue to get many solid recruits.  He's a great guy, and sells the school and the program well.  I think there are much bigger issues for President Docking to deal with (cough, cough DORMS).  Coach Riley and his staff have a program that is in pretty good shape right now, competitive with everyone in the league, and unless I'm mistaken (folks from other schools can correct me if I'm wrong), considered a serious, and dangerous opponent, especially around tournament time.
