Matt Kingshott -- looks like Albion and Hope, in that order. His little brother Derek is a great athlete, starting cornerback and kick-returner for playoff team and starting forward on top 10 basketball team, as a 10th-grader. A couple summers ago Derek would come to our open gyms at the Grand Haven Y, with the majority of the Muskegon Hts, South Christian teams, other good West Michigan players, and hold his own as a nont-yet ninth-grader. Has a 4.0 gpa -- despite not saying a word in the two years I've known him, maybe that's why:) -- and already getting some DI feelers.

Kid from Chelsea, John Mantel, was home-schooled until 10th-grade. Has 32 ACT. Smooth, natural shot-blocker and rebounder, and shoot to 20 feet, no post-up game. Chelsea has two good juniors as well, point guard Nate Schwarze and 2G Micah Hudson.

DOESNT MATTER IF COLLINS SCORES 40, AC WILL NOT WIN.  COLLINS ISNT THE SAME PLAYER WITHOUT SCHAFFER ON THE COURT WITH HIM.  HE DOESNT GET THE EASY BASKETS HE DID THE LAST 2 YEARS.  SOME PLAYERS JUST NEED OTHER GOOD PLAYERS AROUND THEM TO SCORE AND COLLINS IS ONE OF THOSE PLAYERS.

AS WE CAN SEE, CRAWFORD DOES NOT NEED DEPREE AND THOMAS AROUND TO BE A GREAT PLAYER.  MAYBE SOME NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR CONSIDERATION FOR HIM?  DONT THINK THERE IS A PLAYER IN THE NATION WHO COULD STOP THE BIG MAN.  WE WILL SEE HOW HE DOES ON SATURDAY VS CALVIN AND MECKES.  SHOULD BE A GREAT BATTLE DOWN LOW.

Now, Greg, consider the possibilities - maybe his 'caps lock' key broke after the last time his pounded it!  He's fallen (into all caps) and he can't get up!  A bit of sympathy, perhaps, for the posting impaired?

Of course, I suppose there is also the possibility that he's deaf to netiquette.

Quick question for you Dutchies out there....It seems since everyone is dressed in orange at your home arena.....isn't there any tickets given away to the visiting team.  I was wondering if they will give Albion tickets, so we can come watch Albion @ Hope Feb 4th.  Just curious is all.  Anyway what an exciting season it has been so far, it will only get better.  Good luck to everyone on Wednesday!

mascot - there are a couple of sections (right behind the visiting bench and the "bleacher" section next to it) that are set aside for the visiting team.  I would guess you have seating for about 150.

Part of the reason the arena always looks like it's been painted orange is that they gave evryone at the first game an orange t-shirt, and lots of folks wear them to all the games.

It may not be necessary. The only games that have sold out so far at the DeVos are the first game (Elmhurst) and the Calvin game. Though I imagine the Albion game will be a popular one too.

I find the small number of sellouts a little surprising, given the interest in the new venue and the good season the EthnicPersons are having--any insight, anyone?

Maybe people don't like Heinz as much as we thought.

if you get there at 1.00 no problem for tickets for the albion game
i love hope  sports all of them are really great to watch

My guess is that there are 2 main reasons why.  First, there have been a number of games (4 I believe) that occured while the students were on break.  The second reason is that I believe people are afraid of a sell-out, and therefore don't show up.

Having said all of that, let's keep in mind that Hope is averaging 2890 in attendance, which is 90% capacity (3200).  For the Calvin game there were nearly 300 more - SRO.

I think it just shows that the President's vision of the stadium was correct, despite taking a ton of flak for it.  The original Arena Center had no future in Holland - it was too big.  Building something a bit smaller and filling 90% of it every game was the right call.  No matter what you originally thought about the stadium (I remember some grumbling on this board) you have to admit the school got it right for the community and college support.

These attendance #'s for Hope games are starting to sound like an add for Panther Cologne. 50% of the time DeVos sells out everytime.

Nothing can beat Kresge when the student section takes over the bleachers behind both baskets. However, that happens about as often as He-Who-Not-Be-Named- orders a salad at a restaurant.

I just got a call from an Albion Admissions Rep, some basketball player from Holland, MI just sent in his deposit to attend Albion next fall. Some kid by the name of Travis DuPree. I doubt this kid will ever see a minute on the court if he is from Holland and Hope didn't get him in school.

It was mentioned in an earlier post about Albion not starting back until the 20th. Seems like an awefully long break to me.

This is due to a rigorus first semester. Extensive research done by "LittleBoy" an ex student trainer  found a signifcant difference in the lactic acid levels of those students who had an extended winter break, vs those with a traditional winter break.  ;)

I got to meet one Robert "Bobby" Knight yesterday as he was intorduced at a press conference by the University of Indiana as their next head coach.  I happened to be the only person in the back standing up, he must have noticed me right away. When the first question was asked by a reporter, he decided to pick up a chair and toss it towards the back wall. I had to leave early and never got a chance to thank him for helping me out. He seems like a great person and a real class act.
