My random thought for the night.

-----People may not like Joe Cooper or appreciate what he's done for MIAA baksetball and football officiating but you gotta love a 70+ year old man pimpin' it in an Escalade.

Roll Joe, Roll.   ;D

General question.........was the foul on Caleb a charge or pushing off with the elbow

The ref may have made a charging signal but it was really for his lead with the forearm--something Caleb often does. If the call had been made midway through the first half it probably wouldn't have gotten much notice
but when it's made with less than 20 seconds and with the game on the line it's bound to. It was a close call no matter how the ref called it. He could have chosen to eat the whistle but he chose to whistle it. That's one of the breaks of the game you just have to accept and deal with. If he had chosen not to blow the whistle and had Calvin scored and then gone on to win, Hope fans would be playing the "what if" game. As I posted earlier, Immink sold the call well by taking the contact and then reacting in a way that made the ref take notice.

Question in terms of hosting for next weekend, does the NCAA take into account how close of a drive it is or do they just look at the 500 mile circle and the highest seed?  Obviously all but the MS school are in the circle but Witt would be the most central.  Does that enter into their thinking?  Or is it just the highes seed within the circle?

And I just wanted to mention that while this week got a bit testy at times, the last 24 hours has been a big love fest on this board.  I have kind of liked the comraderie in the rivalry on the board with the beating the Wisconsin schools and then heading into tonight's games.  As I mentioned, I would have wanted to choke myself it had ended the other way, so I understand the feeling of my friends from Grand Rapids.   ;) :-[  I just hope this doesn't descend back into WW4 as seemed to be happening on Thursday.  Keep the constructive, informational posts coming...

oldknight, I wasn't ripping on them. I just said the press hurt us. Not trying to single them out. They play exactly how I thought they would against the press. I was giving GVW credit for going to it.

I know, I was frustrated by the TO's too. The press was Glenn's best and most important single decision he made all year. But his players still have to execute it properly which they did, especially Phillips who was particularly disruptive.

Its not the best rivalry in D3 for nothing Tniem.  There will always be some animosity between fans.  Its philosphically ingrained into the opposing schools.

99.9% of those in attendance tonight can appreciate just how great it is to watch these two schools duke it out  with such passion time and time and time and time again.

Its amazing to see, and I feel lucky and blessed to have found this rivalry 18 years ago, and even more lucky and blessed to have witnessed so many of them in person.

I can't wait for the next one already.  8)

Oh I agree.  One of the churches we visited out here in DC had a pastor who graduated from Calvin.  We no longer go there... (to be fair, there were other more important reasons)

I guess the thing that I think is really special about the rivalry is the marriages between the schools, the Calvin alum who operated on Overbeek's knee, the good natured ribbing, the friendly support, the childhood stealing of hats...  The fact that it is intense and near hatred but still the "love" of being in the neighborhood of each other.  Very opposite of what I see on the tv between the NC and Duke faithful.  Of course in saying this, I must acknowledge it is much easier spouting this with a 'W' tonight, if the opposite had happened, my wife would have left me alone for a week.

I will say this, I am so glad we do not have to see Calvin again.  I do not agree with the poster that thought the Knights could win one of ten this year.  The Knights are a good team, I would give them at least 3 or 4 out of ten.  Thankfully one of those was not tonight...

No luck at all sac, it's pure blessing and great privilege. What a game it was to watch.

Well, good night to all. Hopers, have fun this week with your anticipation of the coming game or games. I went through last year and it's really an amazing thing. As for the Faithful, that was a heartbreaker if I've ever seen one. We'll be back! I promise! And in case any of ya'll missed it. I was repping a GOT KARMA? tee-shirt tonight.

Shareef, don't go away for good.  I have a feeling you will be getting some karma soon.   ;D

Ya like within 1 second of your post.

Gotta give karma for a karma shirt.

The Knight Club - nice to see KVS walk over during an inappropriate pre-game cheer  - say something to the club - and the cheer instantly changed to Let's Go Knights.  Much appreciated - the original cheer was out of line and un-necessary.

So were your large group of 9 year olds that were taunting the Knight Club the whole night about the scoreboard.

I'm sorry that some nine year olds got to you about the scoreboard - how could they be so immature?  ;D ;D (I'm really joking, ok)   ;D ;D

Well, well, well. Yes, my hands are still shaking. I could come on here and echo everyone else setiment that I saw one of the great games in a historic rivarly, but honestly that's not true. I saw a game controled start to finish by three men in striped shirts. They missed travel both ways, Meckes for example, and never established what a foul was. On one side of the court everytime someone dribbling the ball was touch they were put on the line and poor Caleb Veldhouse couldn't get a call until they fouled him intentially. I not saying Calvin would have won the game, but that offensive foul call was one of the worst calls I have ever seen in person. How do you not let the players decided the game? The fouls in the second half were 13 to 5 until Calvin's last possesion. It seemed as if everytime Calvin made a run it was stop by yes, free throws. I'll give Greg Immink props on that amazing shot and the fact that he is the only player, who steped it up at all tonight. Obviously, Hope struggles in close games. They look as if they have no clue what to do when a game is on the line. It would have been nice to see the players decided it and not the men with whistles.

Shareef has summed it up well.

I was actually trying to watch the halftime show put on by the cheerleaders, but those 9 year olds got in my way with their signs.  That's why they need to stay in their seats next time.
