I recall Hope getting alley-ooped on by Calvin in a game at Knollcrest which got the fans going nuts. But any time a dunk is so powerful to prevent a game from finishing, it's hard to top that so I think Wade Gugino and Tom Halbert share the top spot for a dunk that I've seen (too bad the 2 pts didn't even count).

Cramer is now probably the second most exciting dunker for a career at Hope, but I still remember some of the crowd explosions Kyle Plank created so I still think of him as the most exciting since I've been watching. Since you brought up facial expressions, the least excitable dunker ever was Kris Merritt. He showed no reaction when he got the chance for a slam.

Greatest dunk I ever saw was when I was 12 and sitting on the end of the bench at the Civic Center filling my role as "waterboy."

It was a 3 on 2 situation for the Dutchmen on a fastbreak on the same end of the floor as Hopes bench.  A shot came off the front of the rim and then caught the back board.  Wade Gugino went straight up and while Tom Halbert was coming from the baseline.  Both grabbed the rebound in unison and slammed it home shattering the back board.  Even for a holiday crowd with most of the students gone, the place went nuts.  Play was suspended and the game was never made up.

The glass breaking dunk occured early durring the 1990-91 campaign in which the Dutchmen were 24-1 entering NCAA play.  The only loss they suffered was to DII Grand Valley 94-92 @ GV.  After a first round bye the Dutchmen met the Knights and were defeated in OT.  Calvin made it to the Elite 8 losing to eventual 3rd place team Otterbien

Fine then, just one up me with the full story  ;)

You forgot the part about there was actually a foul on the initial shot which they were rebounding so that dunk wasn't even going to count. It didn't matter much though as they were already thumping some Concordia team by a pretty huge margin when the game got suspended. I remember the image of Eric Elliott standing at half court during the time they were figuring out what to do and he wound up and faked like he was going to throw a baseball pass through the backboard to clean out the rest of the glass.

I thought of that dunk last weekend because I noticed that the storage room at the DeVos has two full replacement basket setups ready to roll out if needed. I guess they remembered back to that busted backboard and figured they better be ready for next time.

Just an FYI... you can fly Southwest from Chicago to Columbus Ohio for less than $100 oneway.  I'm already picking up my GF friday at the Columbus airport then heading to Springfield if anyone else needs a ride lemme know.

We got a room at the Springfield Courtyard, which I understand is pretty good considering there is also a bowling event in town.

As a heads up, make hotel reservations sooner than later, as there does seem to be a shortage of rooms in the area.  It would probably be annoying to have to drive from your room in Toledo, lol.

I wouldn't worry to much about motel rooms in that area.  You can go west on I-70 to Dayton, and find lots of rooms on 70 or 75.
For your free time on Sat. you might want to go to the Air Force base (Wright-Pattrerson) to the museum.  It is interesting if you like that sort of thing.
My guess is tickets will be available at the door since Witt is on spring break.  Have a nice time, drive carefully, and make the MIAA proud.  I do think Hope is going to need their A game probably both nights.
Contemplating Hope after GVW is sort of like thinking about Calvin after Douma!!

I just think it'd be annoying to have to drive a half hour from my hotel to the game...but I guess it's better than hours and hours.

Realist - Calvin after Douma has been a good thing!!!

There's now plenty of reason to believe that KVS is Eddie's equal or even superior as a tactical coach.
And he's doing his job -- recruiting, teaching, and coaching -- with Calvin's distinctive Christian mission at the forefront.
It no doubt costs him very good players every year -- but he does a remarkable job with the talent that comes to Calvin.

I was in Springfield several years ago for a wedding and stumbled into the US Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB in nearby Dayton. I know the thought of walking through a museum is nauseating to some people but I found it to be a spectacular find--the best museum exhibit I have ever seen. Even my grade school age kids enjoyed it. I understand that this museum recently became the permanent location for the B-17 Bomber, Memphis Belle.

As for life at Calvin after Douma let's just say that it worked out fairly well for the Knights. Who knows, after Glenn does leave maybe Hope's next coach will be able to walk on water.  ;) :D ::) :P

For all those interested:

I saw KVS at the Calvin Christian game last night.  Here's hoping that Veltema is knocking down threes for the Knights next year.

Poor poor Calvin and KVS.  Seriously, don't make it sound as though you are too disadvantaged.  I'm sure Coach Turner and the other MIAA coaches would love to have quality players coming in from California, South Dakota or wherever with very little recruiting effort.  I'm sure he would also love to have D1/D2/NAIA scholarship players pass it up and pay to play.

I happened to be at that game as well. In fact I still have pieces of the backboard that was shattered.

Soory, I am still new at this. I didn't mean for my comment about having pieces of the backboard to be included with the quote. I'll get better though.
