I'd be interested in catching a few hands Friday night after the games are over...

Hey folks...I will be the FIRST to say that I hope I'm wrong about the number of tickets already bought....perhaps they had the initial and that number was from another batch they had or whatever...
EITHER WAY I hope we have the whole place with Hope fans....giddyup and GO HOPE!!!

dothedew

I'd be up for cards...Perhaps we can talk about this during halftime of the 1st game!!!
HOWEVER if/when the dutchmen win I won't be able to play cards...instead it will be drinking (dew) all night :)

one game at a time....GO HOPE!!!

I'm really excited about this weekend b/c this will only be my 3rd hope game of the year...with the other two being that "interesting" andrews game and then the second being that great win for Hope over Albion at the devos.

Actually, I was at the game, if you read up a ways, I talk about Cramers unbelievable move to get a bucket around 3 Calvin players....I have been to many MIAA games and NEVER have I seen the officials decide the game...now, they have a hand in it, I understand that.  But on this forum (I have only been reading for a couple of months), it seems every time someone loses, it is some call by the officials that decided the game.  AND it seems to be Calvin fans complaining more than most.

Sorry, didn't know you were a Hope fan.

But I really doubt that of your last sentence since that before last Saturday's game, the only other games Calvin lost to in the league/league tourney were two games by blow-outs, so please you and FDF keep your mouth shut.  It was Hope fans complaining about Meckes being out of bounds when he clearly was not if you watch the replay.

I personally feel he made the wrong decision on that particular play

Do you think he should've passed it to Draayer on that last 2 on 1 play, knightmoves?

I would give almost anything to know how much terror went through the average Dutch heart when, with 20 seconds left, Veldhouse came down the floor in a 2 on 1 along with Draayer on the left wing and the Knights trailing by 2. Veldhouse chose to take it all the way and was whistled for the offensive foul, a call Immink sold pretty well I thought. As Caleb approached the arc wide open I wanted so badly for him to pull up and go for the lead rather take it to the basket and the tie. He chose otherwise and the rest is history.

I agree with knightmoves that Caleb should have gone for the dagger and shot the 3 just as he did at the Fieldhouse. As you can see from my prior post, I thought so as the events were unfolding. But I'm confident Veldhouse thought he had a sure basket if he took it to the hoop and that he might even be able to draw a foul out of it too--and he did, just the wrong one. Through all the Calvin moaning and the Hope defending of the refs call, pretty much everyone (even most Hope fans) has missed the fact that Immink made a nice defensive play to draw the foul in the first place. As one wise poster once wrote, it's easy to make these decisions from the cushioned seats.  ;) I'll take Caleb's decision making every day.

I'm sure we'll be out drinking dew also  ;)

I know some of you were talking about golfing... myself and my bro in law are bringing our sticks and are trying to go out Saturday if anyones interested lemme know.

Goknights 68 - I am certainly no one with credentials to 2nd guess Caleb's decision & I again agree with oldknight that I'm ok living with Caleb's decisionmaking. He has shown unbelievable poise for a freshman. However, that said, at the time I was sure he was going to draw the D & then pass to Andy for the layup, or that Andy was going to go to the corner & Caleb would hit him for the attempted go ahead 3.
Too bad we can't trade games & lose the league but win the tourney game.
Oh well, this season was far above my expectations, each member of the team should be very proud, and I am in "wait until next year" mode.

Quote from: KnightSlappy on March 09, 2006, 03:03:19 PMGreat post but you missed one detail.  This room does a lot of complaining about the refs but I dont think many people argue that the refs "loose games" for teams.  I have often seen fans of winning teams complain about the officiating.  It is not so much whining or complaining but sort of a collective fan grumble.  Maybe the poor quality of officials is a hot topic because it is one of the few that Calvin and Hope fans can agree on.

Except that they don't agree on it. Just take a look back over the last 24 hours' worth of posts in this room, specifically the most recent contretemps surrounding the refs; it degenerated very quickly into a "you complain about the refs more than we do," "no, you complain about the refs more than we do" back-and-forth between Hope and Calvin fans. It's all very silly, if you ask me.

And the constant barrage of ref comments are wearying even when it's the winning team's fans that are doing the complaining.

Quote from: hornet fan on March 09, 2006, 02:59:19 PMAt times, referees will reward agression, other times they say it as a desparate attempt to hang around with superior talent, thus calling more fouls.  It just depends on the crew, the style of play, and GS is right, it is a part of the game.

I've always thought that there was a lot to be said for the old maxim that it's a team's responsibility to adjust to how the refs are calling a game. It's as much of an aspect of player and coaching acumen as is the in-game adjustment to the different offensive and defensive looks that your opponent is presenting to you.

Sheesh, GS, that time of the month or something?   ::)  Our whining is part of our fun, most of the time.  Sure, we gripe about it now and then, but none of us who hang out regularly here are overly worked up about it.

I say this with all kindness (honestly), and with respect for your enormous record here at D3 -- if we bother you that much, just don't read it.

Sheesh, it wasn't me.  Maybe Sager has a point.  If I had read your post more carefully, I probably would have smited (smitten?) you.
