Sorry, about the lose Hope. Sounds very much like the game most expected. My question for those at the game is do you think that Calvin would have matched up with Witt. better than Hope. Obviously, as evidence of Hope winning three out of four against the Knights they are probably the better team. It just seems to me like Calvin matches up better against teams that have a strong interior presence because of their depth in the post. Hope really has one reliable big man in Voison and seemed to have more trouble against teams like Albion. I was also wondering if how Hope matched up with their bigs. Did they put VanderHeide on of the monsters or keep him on Brady. None of this is said in offense to Phillips. I think he is more of a natural three and therefor don't consider him one of the big men.

one reliable big man??? pretty sure he was held to no points and no rebounds last night, in 30 minutes

I don't know about the others on this board that were discussing a round of golf today, but I had a lovely trip around the links at Eagle Crest in Ypsilanti.  Very nice to be back on the course, and for awhile, I even stopped thinking about basketball (but it wasn't for long).

I know a few of you have posted messages ragging on GVW and stating that he can't coach, etc.  In my opinion, he can stay as long as he wants, but I don't think that is going to be any more than a year or two.  So, the real question is who replaces him?  Personally, I think there are 2 candidates.

Chad Carlson and Brian Morehouse.

Right now I give the edge to Carlson, his story is just too similar to GVW's and he is absolutely beloved at Hope.

However, if Morehouse has any interest whatsoever in the job how could Hope not consider him.  The job he has done with the women has been remarkable and I think it would be difficult to turn him away if he really wants to coach the men.

Last night was the first time I saw Hope play all season.  I live in Ohio and have watched MIAA teams play in Ohio over the past 20+ years.  With a few notable exceptions, I've seen Ohio teams outplay MIAA teams consistently.  Ohio basketball is much more physical than what I've seen from MIAA teams.  And, the reality is that MIAA will hardly ever get a call that goes their way in Ohio.  Wittenberg purely and simply outplayed Hope last night.
I've contended for many years that kids from Ohio outplay kids from Michigan in basketball, football and lacroose.  Nothing that I've seen lately has given me evidence to the contrary.

Irishvoice,

Used to be the case, but really not for several years. Calvin has won 2 national championships & was in 2 other final fours because we learned to play physical basketball. Seeing one game is hardly a viable measurement. Come watch a few MIAA league games & you will see it is just as physical as Ohio now.

Trust me, I follow Calvin as much as I follow Hope.  I'm aware that Calvin has won 2 national championships.  But, I can't recall the last time Calvin won a football game.  And, I watch a lot of basketball here in Ohio and Ohio kids are flatout better than Michigan kids.  Look at U of M's roster and see how many kids that truly contribute are from the state up north.  I hate to burst anyone's bubble but that's the way it is.

knightmoves,
I am basing things on an entire season not just one game. Voison was second team all-MIAA. So ya I consider that a reliable big man. He had a lot on his plate lst night with Witt. It's obviously going to be hard when they start 6'8 and 6'9. And my point was he really doesn't have a whole lot of help on the inside and I was asking if Calvin would have match up better.

"I started to look around at the fans and the team and I was sitting in the back, and I looked around and everybody was having a good time and that day, it truly made me realize what Michigan was about. It took me down, it humbled me. It taught me how to be a Michigan man instead of Jason Avant."

yada yada yada...And I can't recall the last time Calvin lost...I think this board retired the old "haha Calvin has no football team about 280 pages ago.  And we aren't talking on d3football.com, are we?
I've seen enough of MIAA teams beating Ohio teams (in basketball) to say the opposite of your conclusion.  It is the belief on this board that the Ohio schools tend to avoid any preseason games the MIAA schools (especially the big two).

Or does should I call them preconference games to be PC (Pat Colemanesque)?

Pay no attention to posts like irishmoves is putting up. It's extremely childish. I F he wants to have a conversation about Ohio being better than Michigan and out up some facts rather than simple-minded jibberish. I'm all for it. It doesn't really speak highly of your state or it's universties that kids are so eagar to move up north either.

Anybody out here listening to or watching the game tonight?

Let's talk about it on the Witt Sectional board if you would like.

ok, i can see that. i do think calvin would match up better.....Snoeyink and Bear would provide muscle under the basket for sure, and Meckes plays taller than he really is with his insane jumping ability. I'd take Calvin as a better match up.

Not basketball.  Everybody knows all the top recruits come out of the Detroit area.
