k2:  Not much question on BC,  He had fantastic numbers, and was a dominant force.  Take BC away, and Albion really struggles.  For a fr. to do so well is a bit surprising, but Caleb proved time and again he was heart of the Calvin team.  Hard not to feel a little sorry for Phillips.  If I recall correctly he was picked to do much better in the preseason.  As mentioned before Hope never seemed to want to pound it down inside so this probably hurt him.

yes, i agree. phillips could have been such a dominant force if he wanted to. he truly was a team player this year. but your right, take crawford away from albion, and it wouldnt have been pretty. take veldhouse away from calvin, and that doesnt work out so well either.

Re: Veldhouse, and as has been posted on here before:  During the end of the season he made the Knights his team.  Expect him to be the heart of the team for the next three years.  Expect him to be Ist team next year, as he grows in confidence and ability.

Congrats to all three.

Take Veldhouse away from Calvin and Hope hosts last weekend, wins over Witt and plays next weekend.

Why?  Did he play for Witt last weekend?

I believe the implication is that, had Veldhouse not played for Calvin, Hope would have won all their games against the Knights this year, and as a result of the home court advantage (after all, they have yet to lose at The Dick), they would have prevailed over Wittenberg.

This is beginning to sound like the Notre Dame football argument after every season.  "Well, Notre Dame beat Navy, who beat Air Force, who beat Baylor, who beat Nebraska, who won the national title.  Therefore, Notre Dame should have been national champions."

Just heard about Brent Schuster, a 6'8" kid from Denver Christian (two time 3A State Champion) who is headed to Calvin.  I hear he needs to bulk up, but what 6'8" 18 year old doesn't?  I also hear that he can really shoot for a big guy.  This is the same high school that sent Andy Draayer to Calvin.

What's the deal? You mean there's a 6'8" kid in your neck of the western woods headed for Calvin and you haven't seen him play?   :o  If you want to keep your board privileges (to say nothing about good karma) we need you to keep us advised on these matters.  ;)  ;D :P

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point and assume he was trying to maintain a veil of silence until the kid committed to keep Turner, Riley, GVW and the rest off the kid's doorstep.

Sorry, my attention has been focused on the Denver Christian class of 2016.  Hopefully, we'll have a 6'4" shooting guard headed Calvin's way.  Right now, we're just hoping he gets his two front teeth for his birthday.  Still though, two posts and I've already told you about the first team all MIAA center in 2009.  Not bad for a junior varsity poster.  No more time to chat, I've got some more recruiting to do. ;)

:)  Props on your creativity, northb.  Very much enjoyed.  Would give karma if I could.   :)

I attended the two Calvin games here in Denver over the holidays and soon found this forum.  Although this is my first post, I've been reading the MIAA board since January and have enjoyed it very much.  Being so far away, with only the radio feed on the internet, it's hard to get a real feel for what's going on.  This board has helped a lot.  Thanks to everyone who has posted (especially the after game posts that provide so much detail about what transpired during the games).

DenverKnight, welcome to the board.  I've been a long-time MIAA follower and reader, but like you, I am a first-year poster.  Don't forget to check out the MIAA Pick 'Em board for some fun contests in-season, and the Multi-Regional Topics, General Basketball, and other boards where our more prolific posters also comment.  There's a lot to explore.  Have fun with it.  Looking forward to more of your "view from the mountains".  Once again, welcome.

This is what I found on that Brent Schuster kid if anyone is interested.

Shareef23, great job on the research.  Lot's of good articles on the newest Knight.

DenverKnight, why so modest?  At 6'8" and still growing, and improving, he just might make All-MIAA before 2009.

The recruiting season isn't over just yet, but I can feel the balance of the recruiting scales tipping ever so slightly from Holland towards Grand Rapids.   ;) ;)
