KVS has a history of turning freshmen loose.  In 00 it wasn't unusual for Veenstra or Foltice to have the ball in their hands at the end of the game.  In fact BF made a driving layup to win the semi-final game in the final 4 versus F&M

R Squared, I will never be the first to bring up a recruit's destination even if I'm the first to know.  ;D I give my two cents on situations when the time is right.

I haven't read the board through a recruiting season yet.  I hope I didn't violate some rule of etiquette by mentioning that Schuster plans to play at Calvin.

DenverKnight, since I'm still kinda new at this too, I'll leave it to the more experienced posters to answer your question.

Shareef23, bulldogalum, northb, and sac, thank you for helping to answer DenverKnight's question on recruit discussion etiquette.  Excellent advice from all.  I deferred to the more experienced, and you were right there.  DenverKnight, it's really just a matter of common sense, courtesy, and respecting confidences.  Go with the advice given, and you'll be OK.

This was up front on Pat's Daily Dose
>>Other moments that stand out in my frazzled mind (it's a busy week) include the 1998 Hope/Wilkes game, when David Muelenberg hit two free throws. Sidelined by a broken foot late in the season, Muelenberg was subbed into the game, replacing injured Chris Formsma. He hit two free throws, then limped back to the bench to a standing ovation. I didn't understand the significance at the time, though — someone had to explain it to me. Like I said, it was 1998. We didn't even have a message board on the site yet.

I remember it differently... I thought it was the championship game when the game was in hand for Platt.  I also thought it was someone other than Formsma, but don't remember that either... Someone with a re-occurring issue, that "just happened" to come into play on the foul that Dave subbed in for. Anyone help? Or is Pat correct?

Definitely a great moment.

Pat, thanks for that wonderful walk down memory lane.  Re-reading your running commentary for the first time in eight years, and seeing all those once-familiar names again, was neat.  Would give karma if I could.

Not a layup. 10-footer in the lane for the victory. :)

Roughrider, no problem. That's what we're here for. Long strange trip since then.

My memory is OK, but not that great. That's why I wrote it all down. :)

Ah, see?  This is why I must start writing things down.  I was there, and my memory said it was the championship game, and the gesture was because we were out of the running.  I do remember being extremely touched -- it was a truly great moment in Hope bb history.

Perhaps you could take a look a my post from a few hours ago and help me out with the DIII recruiting rules?

Thank you.

What exactly are the "recruiting" rules in Division III?

I've never known exactly and for sure don't know what the differences are from when Witt "deemphasized" and moved out ot the OAC.

Can someone give me an overview on the recruiting rules and the differences in emphasis between the OAC and the NCAC?

Thanks.

TigerFan_1973, a good place to start would be the following:

http://www.ncaa.org/edout/saac/s-a_excellence/d3/recruiting.html

Or just go to http://www.ncaa.org and use the search engine for Division III, Recruiting, Basketall, or any combination thereof.  There's really a lot to look through on their website.  I hope this helps.

Civic Minded -- I, too, remember this as a poignant moment, when Hope was in the final moments of its second national championship game.  Did it happened twice . . . or are we both misremembering?  (Glenn VW will remember this, because he stage-managed it, as I recall.)  And we can wistfully think of what might have happened in either of Hope's Holstege-era national championship games if a healthy Dave Muelenberg had been able to contribute.

This may be the incorrect board but...I am looking for a link to the bracket contest of the D3 men's tourney.  I have looked hard and I just can't seem to find it.  I must be looking in the wrong spot, and I must love misery, b/c I have a feeling that my bracket is at least 50% wrong, but I just wanted to find proof. Anyways, if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Just watched the Outside the Lines on the D3 tourney.  It was a very nice piece, following IWU and Lincoln college through the first few rounds of the tourney.  I felt like it was a pretty accurate representation of what D3 sports are about.  There was a funny moment where they asked an IWU player about guys leaving early for the NBA, and he said the only thing you have to worry about in D3 is guys leaving early for grad school.

As a side note, I know it was only a couple of games that they showed, but it sure looked like that PG from Lincoln has some serious game.  Also, congats to the Knights for getting a split second of airtime on ESPN!

Sounds interesting--what did they have to say about the Knights?

Pat:  Thanks for the taped buzzer beater.  Forgot, it was 10 feet.  I just recall BF streeking down the court, and putting up a shot, and it going in at the buzzer.  I don't feel to bad, I had the right game whereas, several of my Hope freinds still have doubts.  They are correct that  Dave M. was a very nice person, and good player.  He and Holstege combined to put a dagger in Calvin's heart more than once.

They got "air time" but so did Hope and every other team in the tourney.  They just listed every single team involved.

Pat, thanks for the link.
