INSIGHT:  I have heard that the financial aid packages at Hope are overall LOWER than competing MIAA schools.

That is correct, Hope's average financial aide to athletes was less than Albion, Kalamazoo, Calvin.  Their total endowment also ranks behind these schools.  Its way back in the early November archives if anyone wants to look it up.

They key word is AVERAGE.
Sac ... Hope's endowment is much bigger than Calvin's - both in terms of total size and in terms of endowment dollars per student.  I'm also doubtful about the financial aid package to athletes being lower at Hope than Calvin, although Hope's student body is wealthier than Calvin's so I can't say that stat is wrong.  But the endowment thing is wrong ....

Correct.  From the Calvin Chimes article:
"Even the current endowment figure is modest when compared to the endowments of Calvin's peer institutions like Hope College and Wheaton College. Though the student bodies of each institution are significantly smaller than Calvin's, Hope's endowment is about one and half times the size of Calvin's and Wheaton's about three and a half times its size."

I can hear a new response to the" where's your banner," cheer. It's
"our endowment is bigger." ;D

BTW. What teams/schools buy rings for teams when they win a MIAA title?

I always thought that was silly... I know the Hope FB team has done that, or at least guys on the team. Don't know anyone else.

In high school, you win State, and a ring is cool. But in College, nothing but a National Championship before a ring.

Oh c'mon, there has to be a way to create that cheer using the word "endowed."  ;D

"We're well endowed" would also work.  ;D

How many NCAA Championships will Hope have to win before they take down the NCAA 2nd place banners?

What's wrong with a second place banner?  Should they give back the trophies as well?

At D1 schools like Kentucky and Kansas (IIRC) they post banners for Sweet Sixteens.  I am pretty sure places like Winthrop and Valpo get them for even being in the tournament.  Albion has those pennants for conference crowns.  So, really, whats the problem with runnerup banners?

And to tweak what FDF and Civic said, I certainly desire to see the Men's team win a title one day but I am not sure I envy yours.  Here's the definition of envy:

QuoteA feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions or qualities of another.

I really do not desire or resent your pleasure for your titles.  And taking yours would not increase my pleasure, so to speak (after all you would still have memories of seeing it or hearing about it, while I would just have some cloth).  It would just diminish you.  That's not cool (although it was fun to "take one" for a couple hours and see your reaction...).  For us to both be happy, I would like to experience the thrill of cheering on the men to a title and then I will better understand your pride in those teams.

For the record, I am quite content with having "watched" the women win and watching their games over the previous four seasons.  And I do not believe someone bringing up those banners should be withheld to the women's board when it is in response to someone saying the DeVos has bare ceilings.

And on a completely different note, did D3 change the color of the links on this page?  The board has seemed different the last week or two and I have had a hard time putting my finger on what it is.  This is my best guess.

New Hope Fan:
I would respectfully disagree with you about the rings.  What's the difference?  Teams in both h.s. and college receive league championship plaques from their schools or booster clubs, so why not rings?  Should make no difference.  Granted, a national championship is a BIG accomplishment and definitely deserves a ring (if people want those kind of things), however, IMO (and I'm sure others), a ring (or plaque, your choice ;)) for a league championship is acceptable as those are not easily attained either.

Did the endowment comment by memory........bottom line, Hope and Calvin don't give near as much in financial aide as people at other MIAA institutions would like you to believe.

Rings, banners, transfers..........the only problem with them all is that they seem to be associated with Orange and Blue.  ::)

Did anyone ever consider that maybe DVS left Leastern Michigan University for Hope because he wanted an actual college education?

Mr. Ypsi's enraged reply to Ziggy in 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ...

Nah, some posts are too dumb to be worth a perfectly good rage. ;)

Southeastern Michigan has Leastern Michigan and Schoolcraft College, but I already went to high school

Now, now, Ziggy - I do have SOME sort of breaking point!  Tell ya what - since I don't know you from Adam, and therefore could not target you, why don't you sign up for one of my EMU courses - let's see if you can pass it?! ;D

(I'm guessing 'no'.  ;))

Promised myself I would go cold turkey on this board until Oct., but this banner thing deserves comment.
Does no one else see the irony?  One poster says Hope doesn't need banners because we have friends, are good people etc. etc. etc., and several post later in comes a defense for hanging a 2nd place banner.
Almost as strange as todays military where one gets a ribbon for toilet training, and "graduating" from boot camp.
It's your building hang all the banners you want, but please no articles of underclothing!!
It's your program, recruit who you want, freshmen or transfers, (as long as it complies with the rules), give them the aid package allowed, and play them as the coaches see fit.  Hope really has no need or incentive to cheat on recruits.  The best all time player @ Hope still is Floyd Brady.  No doubt with him playing  this year, a banner to be proud of or not even hang! ;D :D ;) ;D
