We'll get another CCIW/MIAA matchup this coming season as Albion travels to IWU on Dec. 30...

http://www2.iwu.edu/menssports/basketball/mbb_sked0607.shtml

Cool Q, I like that matchup a lot.  Albion will have a pretty good squad coming down next winter, I'm guessing Albion will get the #3 pick by the coaches who have been impecibly accurate in recent MIAA seasons.  ;)

Only problems is its after the christmas break, so you'll see a couple rusty teams I imagine.

Cabs----The MIAA has to count Alma and Tri-State's attendance I'm sure it balances out.  Without the giants of IWU, Hope and Calvin who consistenly sell out or in Calvins case have far better than average crowds the MIAA and CCIW are pretty even.

The story is the Hope ladies who will probably break the all-time D3 attendance record.  If it were baseball they'd get an asterisk.........many of those games were double-dippers with the men.  However they did have a legit 1500+ for the MIAA Championship game.

Hope men also played in front of 52,819 people at home which has to be a record.......18 home dates.  Also has to be a record ;)

Let's see 52,819 times increase in ticket prices..........in house concessions........... :o   Should have that place paid for in no time. 8)

NWHopefan---a bigger facility wouldn't help Albion in attendance much,  they only had one MIAA game with attendance over 1000 and that was Calvin.  Hope only drew 554 due to their extended winter break.  Capacity is about 1500.

IWU only played 10 home games last year.  After playing just 3 non-conference games at the Shirk Center in 2005-06, the Titans will have just 4 in 2006-07.

FDF,  is there a link where I could find that list of attendance stats?  I just wondered where Wooster fell in the mix.  According to the NCAC site, they averaged 1716 for the season which, I would guess would put them in the top 5?  I tried the NCAA site and could only find DI attendance figures.

I figured... The "city" of Albion is not as big and does not support basketball the same as Holland, but wouldn't you suspect, if they built a new facility, and rallied the support of the community, that people would come out and get on board with Albion Basketball? Obviously the RCA/CRC thing helps Hope and Calvin out...

According to the NCAA, Woo averaged 1666, and was 4th in the nation.  Here is the link

Calvin women's 2006-07 varsity schedule is now up. Still looking for the girl's schedule.  ;)

Just got the schedule for Holland Summer Rec League - which includes teams from Hope, Calvin, Aquinas, and Conerstone (I think).  Hope and Calvin also each have teams of ex players.  They play on Monday nights at the Civic Center and Holland Chirstian HS.  Here's the link:

Albion College is 1/2 the size of Hope College, and the city of Albion is 1/4 the size of Holland and shrinking as opposed to Holland's growth.  The % of graduates that stay in the Albion area I imagine is far less than the number of Hope grads in Holland.

During Albion's great run of 2005 they had great support with every post season game being near or definate sellouts.  I'm not sure what the maximum in community support would be but I think we've seen pretty close to the peak as far as I can tell.

While we're on the subject of Calhoun county cities lets take a little trip further south to the high school baseball capital of Michigan.........Homer.  The mighty Trojans are at it again, stringing together a 28-0 record at last check last week.  They just moved into the semi-finals of the locally prestigious Lansing Diamond Classic, they'll next take on Division 1 Okemos in the semi's.......Homer is now Division 4.

A little birdie told me that Homer will likely have 3 players drafeted in the MLB draft with 2 going to D1 schools Evansville and CMU.

The Trojans are now 101-1 over the past 3 years, so far this year they've outscored teams 291-23 and have close to 20 wins by the mercy rule.........as far as the coach can recall they've been behind only once this year.  Their one loss over the past 3 years came in the Division 3 state championship last year........this year the Trojans drop down to Division 4.

You can catch them next week at Olds Park in lansing vs Okemos.......June 5 I believe..........and I'm sure they'll be in Battle Creek for the State finals in a few weeks.

Just scroll till you see Homer Simpson.

They pretty much nailed them all, too funny.  i just had to share.

....and FDF are those scrimmages with AQ and Cornserstone considered "In Region" for the prestigious Summer Rec League National Championships?.......or will the obvious bias towards an NAIA loaded schedule hurt the Knights and Dutchmens chances this summer?

Fill us in on the hardwood happenings.

I think we're both old enough to remember that Calvin's women's/girl's team was called the "Knighties."  :-[  Now there's a nickname to intimidate an opponent.  :P

The Knighties!?!  LOL!  Wow, didn't know that one.  I would imagine it would bring about a great deal of fear and trembling from opponents, guessing that only really tough broads would be willing to be called Knighties!   :D
