35 million, wonder how much is budgeted for these

But since they don't sell hotdogs at the current fieldhouse......maybe not.  ;)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Mr. Ypsi

Nice variation on the Heinz ketchup and mustard pics!  For creatively continuing a joke everyone thought had FINALLY run its course: +k! ;)

Well it would have been even more supersweetness if I'd been able to figure out how to insert a picture.

Sac:  Hate to ruin your fun, but Calvin has never envied anything on the Hope campus.

Have you seen the weight room in the DeVos building?  Platforms and power racks ..... nice.

An amazing streak came to an end last night, when Calvin defeated Hope in volleyball. Until last night, no Hope team had lost a game at the DeVos.

I see that the attendance is listed at 700. Did they play in the vollyball court or the basketball court?

That looks like its going to be a very nice facility.    If anyone associated with Calvin can honestly say that this is not a direct response to the DeVos, I'd find it very hard to believe.  Funny, funny stuff.

You know, I watched a documentary about Napoleon on the History channel the other day. Seemed he had some sort of complex.
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

I might have envied the Devos Fieldhouse, but I can assure you, the Calvin Board of Trustees would never respond that quickly to a new building at Hope.  There is a master plan for the campus, and any new additions to Calvin's campus will have been in the works for years.  It is that kind of institution.  No doubt, there may have been changes in the design based on the Hope's building (i.e., condiment dispnsers), but the general concept will have been in the works for 5-10 years.

This project has been on the top of the building priority list since -- er -- the DeVos Communications Building was built about 5 years ago. The fundraising alone has been in the works for almost that long -- since before the DeVos Fieldhouse was a twinkle DeVos's eye. I guess the Dutch felt that if Calvin had a DeVos building, they needed one too.  ;)

Prior to the DeVos Communications Building, Calvin built DeVries Hall, the "wet sciences" building. What do you know! A couple years later a similar building sprung up on Hope's campus!   :D

The master plan (whether you choose to acknowledge it's existence or not)called for a Wellness Center, and a reworking of the current fieldhouse.  Facts:  The ceiling height in the old fieldhouse is to low to accomodate a 4 sided score board.  Also the ceiling height does not meet current requirements for volleyball.  Some things you just can't easily change.  Calvin built, used, and enjoyed the current fieldhouse for 40 years while Hope was stuck in the Civic.  Attempts by Hope to get the taxpayers of Holland to build a new Civic repeatedly failed so (after decades) Hope decided to forge ahead with the De Vos. :)
CM:  What is predictable is SAC et.al. immediately assumming that Calvin's  motive was to upstage Hope.   :D

To be fair to the sacmeister, I don't think his first comments on the announcement yesterday can be translated with a derogatory use of the word "predictable." He started out by writing, "Looks like a good plan over there at the Beltline. Sure didn't take long for the envy to put money in motion"--a comment he followed up with use of the  ;D icon. I take those statements to be both generous and an all-in-good-fun poke in the ribs over the building project. Since sac bleeds orange and blue I'm  :o:o over the kindness of those comments.

Its October 14........some of you are in for a looooooooooooooooong season if you can't take a little stick poking in the side.  ;) ;D :D :) 8) ;D :D ;) :) 8)  Yes it was in fun.

By the way Hope's had an indoor tennis facility for almost 15 years now, clearly Calvin felt they had to duplicate that effort. 8)   Is there a football program in that "master plan".

Hey Stinger, I've misplaced my wooden shoes, can you look around for them.

Oh never mind, no one from Kzoo has seen a pair of wooden shoes since 1995.   ;D

See I'm an equal opportunity jerk.

Judging from the photos's on Hope.edu, I'd say it was in DeYoung.

Anyone interested can head out to Watermark CC on Monday and watch Hope win its 4th straight MIAA men's golf title and 7th in 8 years.  This years winner gets an auto invite to the D3 tournament next spring for the first time.
