Kalamazoo is out first with a roster (albeit a long list of what will probably be their Varsity & JV teams)

T. Geerlings is not a favorite at Knollcrest.   This may be one of the few topics we can reach some agreement about.

Maybe this is old news -- if so, please forgive me -- but it looks like the Knights are getting a new castle...

3 new DI transfers with at least 2 more coming second semester. And they are all big... 6-6, 6-7, 6-7 . They are also very quick, jump extremely high and shoot 3's like they were going out of style. Amazing recruiting Glen does... should be another fine year!

Unfortunately they also suffer from the Heinz curse...too much mustard on the shots in the big games, and they get behind and can't ketchup. ;)

Northb, if I could give you triple karma for your hilarious internal monologue, I certainly would.   ;D

FWIW, get that sandwich and try not to worry.  One of the transfers is from the Pistons, but he's only 6' 5"...

Got more info on the 3 Hope transfers.  Apparently they've made quit an impression in the short time they've been there.

The first really isn't a transfer. Stefan Rheinsthreys comes to Hope from Westlake, Ohio via Hanover, Germany.   As a 6-4 Sr. exchange student he averaged 24.8 points per game shooting over 65% from 3, and makeing 5 per game.  Has excellent ball skills, loves to shoot 3's obviously.   I asked him about gaurding Veldhouse and he just laughed and said, Veldhouse was vulnerable to flops and he'd get him in foul trouble every game.  Also said he doesn't go for fakes in the lane.

Brian Skreens is 6-6 250, played D1 football for Utah St as a TE, but a shoulder injury put an end to his football career.  Apparently GVW's morman ties convinced him Hope was the right place for him.  Doesn't score much but really throws his weight around.  I over heard Glenn say "he's like Spaman, only better".  He'll probably start

Lastly the guy who's makeing the biggest impact is Igor Dunksovernites.  The 6-11 stud played D1 hoops for Cornell last year but wanted a better academic challenge.  Despite that desire he ended up in Holland, said he was impressed with Vanderheide's performance last year and wanted to be the man in the middle Hope could count on for easy buckets.  Calls himself the missing piece, most at the practice just called him huge.

Of course all these transfers hasn't come without problems..........Matt Neal was repeatedly asking how the heck they could get Steven Cramer into the starting lineup with all that talent.  Steven just shrugged his shoulders and went back to practicing reverse 360 dunks.

One player was even heard saying he was transfering to Calvin and hopes to make the midseason roster, but I think there was something more to that, something about sick of all the dancing, off campus parties and football players at Hope.   He's pretty confident he'll play right away over there.

Also Eric Elliot will have several Jr's on this years roster, just not enough room on the varsity for them, that and Hope's inability to recruit any freshamn of consequence.  Of course since the JV's wasn't seen by anyone at DeVos last year, there's skepticism as to whether the team really exists.  Glenn wouldn't answer any questions and Elliot just smiled.

From what I could see Hope goes about 16 deep which I thought was weird since they only had 15 guys in practice.  But clearly this is the deepest most talented team Hope's ever had, they are loaded and could probably win the MIAA with just the end of the bench.  Glenn said he wasn't going to try that though.

I asked Glenn about the NAIA heavy schedule, he said not to worry because it wouldn't matter with all of Hope's talent.  He wants to fly in under the D3 radar this year and not put too much pressure on his kids.  He did say if Hope struggled in December, he had something cooking for the 2nd semester..... ...as he put it, he's got a couple transfer options he's looking at.

So that about sums up the practice.  I was looking around the old barn last night, what it great place to play basketball........however the place is really starting to show its age.  All in all I had an enjoyable evening at the first practice and really savored the hotdog with ketchup and mustard.

Classic! That one's a keeper. Thanks for the laughs.
