sac - if you weren't already a HOFer, I'd nominate you just for those last two posts.  Absolutely classic

I don't know...sounds to me like Sac has way too much time on his hands, and may need an intervention.   :D  Headed this way any time soon, Sac?  Pizza and beer on us!

mmmmmmmm pizza...........mmmmmmmmm  beer.

Yay! Matt Veltema made it! He was sweet in high school, and now he's ready to take his game to a new level: college. :)

"Joe"  Not that it means anything, but the military has used the term "standdown" for years.  The troops were ordered to "standdown".  The meaning is to go from a higher level of alert (or duty) to a lower level.

The incoming freshman for Calvin have received a lot of attention here.  Not much has been said about Derek Griffin, but I have heard he is an excellent shooter and will be a contributor this season.

After last year, and the "baby Knights" title note the above list has 5 fr. 5 so, 1 jr and 3 sr, (if my class standings are correct).  It is interesting this years team is possibly younger than last years.

Realist, the Knights are still young -- but not  quite as young as you have them.  Mantel and Veltema are the only freshmen on the varsity.  The other newcomers include Griffin, a transfer from Muskegon Community College with junior eligibility, and both McCray and Zwier were on last year's JV team at Calvin.  They join a very large contingent of sophomores on this year's team.

Think of them as the ripening Knights. ;)

FWIW, a bit of very early speculation on the starting five for Calvin in a few weeks.

Meckes at the 5
Mantel at the 4
Zoerhof at the 3
Griffin at the 2
Veldhouse at the point

Other formulations?

You heard it here first folks... As last years Calvin College moniker (baby Knights) fades from our memory, a new an improved one is ready to take its place. From here on (or at least till next year's new nickname) the basketball knights will here by be know as "The Ripening Knights"

So my question, before I was humorously distracted, how did Calvin pick a Varsity roster just 4ish days from first practice? Is that fairly normal? I guess most spots from last year were held and they knew what they were getting... just seems fast.

2 practices every day.  1 at 6 am, another in the PM

It just sounded better than the Toddlin' Knights. ;D

Or perhaps we should just call them what they are: the Defending MIAA Champion Knights?  8)
