2006-07 MIAA Coaches' Poll is up:

1. Calvin (4)
2. Hope (3)
3. Albion (1)
4. Tri-State
5. Olivet
6. Kalamazoo
7. Adrian
8. Alma

Any guesses on which coach gave the extra first place vote to Albion?

On the womens' side Hope won but I found it interesting that the Lady Knights got 2 first place votes.

Wow, Tri-State fourth?!

Coach Harmon is certainly not shy about his outlook:

"We were 11-10 with five games left in the season, and we lost five straight (games) to end the season, so we have had all spring and summer to think about that," said fifth-year head coach Rob Harmon."
...
""This class of newcomers is without a doubt the deepest and most talented class I have had in my twelve years at TSU," stated Coach Harmon."
...
"With the loss of only one senior in 2005, Tri-State plans to make a run at the MIAA conference title in 2006-07."

Men's Pre-Season Poll:
1.Calvin 10 (4)
2. Hope 11 (3)
3. Albion 19 (1)
4. Tri-State 28
5. Olivet 34
6. Kalamazoo 38
7. Adrian 41
8. Alma 43.

Looking at the point totals, it's pretty obvious that the coaches see this as a dead heat between Calvin and Hope:

- Calvin's 10 points  = 4 first place votes (4 points) + 3 second place votes (6 points)

- Hope's 11 points = 3 first place votes (3 points) + 4 second place votes (8 points)

Just a guess:

Hope votes: KVS, Adrian coach, Olivet coach
Calvin votes: Alma coach, Albion coach-Turner, Tri State coach, Kalmazoo coach
Albion Votes: GVW

I'm bored, yes. and I'm too lazy to look up coaches' names ;)

My first thought the other day when Wiz brought this up was: "I wonder if Coach Turner ever votes for Hope?" Those are my sour (your court is too short) grapes... Thanks for nothing Coach T!

I noticed that Jeigh Krupp, who should be a senior this year, IIRC, is not on the Tri-State roster.  Anyone know what's up?  Any Tri-State posters out there yet?

Speaking of 3state, does anyone know where they stand this year with respect to being dIII provisional?  Will they count as in-region and are they tournament eligible?

I should be at University Arena right now, but I-94 wasn't to friendly this evening.

Anyway, I am a little surprised the Hornets were ranked down at 6. However, they have a brand new backcourt, and little scoring coming back from their returners. Of course they were picked dead last, last year, and finished 4th.  I see them at worst 5th with a chance to sneak into the top 3.

Look for  McCain and Clancy  to have breakout years

I think that Tri-State is now a full D3 member, but I'm not 100% certain.

The Hornets lost 87-40 last night against Western.  It was 34-26 at halftime with WMU in the favor.  Seems to be the norm for the annual K/WMU game. K keeps it close in the first half, then WMU realizes that they are superior athletes and turns it on.

I believe Albion either has an intrasquad  or Chicago scrimmage today. Any help with that Albion fans?

Stinger, as a bitter UM basketball fan, I was wondering if you knew how David Kool played for Western?
"I started to look around at the fans and the team and I was sitting in the back, and I looked around and everybody was having a good time and that day, it truly made me realize what Michigan was about. It took me down, it humbled me. It taught me how to be a Michigan man instead of Jason Avant."

Dave Kool did not play last night.  I do not know the reason.

gohope

David Kool did not play last night, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette, because of a hamstring injury.  They HOPE that this will be short lived otherwise the word "redshirt" popped up, much to the dismay of WMU's coach, who is really looking for David's shooting for this year's team.

I was bummed that I couldn't go to the game to see the two teams play last night, but hightlights of the game were on WWMT last night.

Why a bitter UM fan? Because they didnt offer David?

The Hornets had only 10 dressed last night, 4 of what will be main contributors this year have a couple nagging injuries and sat out.

The Hornets start out against Heidleburg down at the MT. St. Joe tourney on Nov 17th.  Mr. Sager, I believe North Park is the 4th team rounding out the tourney?  Kzoo had a nice little home and home series  with North Park back in the mid 90's.

The GR Press has an article explaning the reason for having the select bank tournament at Calvin this year. The reason is a conflict with Martina McBride's "The Joy of Christmas" concert on that Saturday. (Who Martina McBride is and why she's so joyful about Christmas that she has to boot the basketball teams out of the Van Andel, I'm not sure.)

Never fear, the tournament should be back at the Van Andel next year, and for this year, the Knights will mitigate the apparent home-court advantage by covering the knights logo on center court and sitting on the visitors' side of the floor if necessary.  ;)
